Around the world, there are 17,900,000 orphans who have lost both parents and are living in orphanages or on the streets and lack the care and attention required for healthy development. These children are at risk for disease, malnutrition, and death. Childinfo (UNICEF, 2011). Single parents should be allowed to adopt a child because they have the same ability and potential as married couples to raise successful and happy children. Although the rate of orphans who have lost their parents is high, agencies and attorneys makes it difficult for single parents to adopt a child, so allowing single parents to adopt a child will help lower the rate of orphans without a family, and would allow the orphans to have someone who can provide them care and affection. In my personal experience, being raised by a single parent allowed me to realize that it is very important to have a the affection of a parent in life and it also helped me learn on how to become independent and at the same inspired me to achieve my goals despite the obstacles. This shows that a single parent can also contribute in forming a good parenting structure in a child’s life. One must keep in mind the main goal which is to place a child by considering what is in the child 's best interest and to place other assumptions aside. According to the statistics of orphans without a family, it would really help that agencies as well as attorneys would make it easier for single parents to adopt a child because this way more kids would at least have a chance to experience what is like to have real affection and real
