Should Racial Slurs Be Made Illegal?

Have you ever heard of the saying “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never break me? Well, words do hurts, especially if you've been called a racial slur name. A racial slur is a disrespectful nickname for an entire race. I believe that racial slurs Should be illegal to say to any race for the simple reasons of harassment and discrimination as well as its teaching hate. Racial slurs should be made illegal.

One reason why racial slurs would be made illegal is it's a form of harassment. Harassment has a very low tolerant in the court system. When harassing someone who repeatedly means that you giving them discomfort and causing emotional distress. So if harassing someone is against the law so should racial slurs. For an example

on November 22, 2017, in Maui, an older man was being sued for saying racial slur to two teens because he felt he shouldn't have been with another race female. His words sent fear and sense that the man was going to hurt the teenagers. He was not found guilty because it “Did not reach the level of a criminal act”. (Honolulu Star-Advertiser. (2018). Discrimination is telling the difference between two races. Telling someone they can't do something because of the things that they don't have is any form of bullying and against the law. A second reason is racial slur makes people from other countries to come to united states. When people come from different countries they might know things that we don’t or can make things we can’t. If they see how we treat each other in the united state why would they wasn’t to come here. For instance, Trump called a few countries very unlikeable names he says "Why do we want all these people from 'shithole countries' coming here?"

Why should they come to the united state just to be called insulting names all the time?
The Final reason is that racial slur Teaches future generations to contiune to hate and fight each other. When People are using slur the children began to pick up on that behavior and they grow that hate in their heart towards another race but really don't know why they hate that race. They hate because they were taught to hate. For example, Ruby Bridges the first black girl to go to an all-white school had to walk to school every day with U.S Marshals because the other kids would be trying to harm her with their words and more. Ten years later one of those same girls apologized to her on Oprah for the violence and the negative slurs she used against her. She explained that she was raised that way and that she didn't understand why she was so angry, but that was how she was raised.
In concluding , racial slurs should be illegal. Words, names, and labels will stick with you and they do hurt. It's disrespectful and threatening. Your harassing and discriminating as well as not setting good examples for the new generation as well as making our country look bad.
