Should the government keep the death penalty, or should they just erase it so it can never be used again. If kept the death penalty can stop crimes from happening due to the criminal fearing the death penalty. The death penalty should be kept because it is the biggest warning known to mankind, and it would puts fear into the criminal which could stop a crime from ever happen.

The death penalty is the biggest warning a man or woman can receive. A criminal would be less likely to commit a crime if they knew they would be punished by death. “If the criminal knows that the justice system will not stop at putting him to death, then the system appears more draconian to him...thus, there is a better chance that he will not break and enter” (paragraph 6). So, if the government keeps the death penalty then there would be a decline in crimes committed.This justifies the fact that if a criminal knows they will be put to death they are less likely to commit a crime in the first place. …show more content…

If a criminal is afraid of what the outcome is when they get caught committing a crime then there is a slim chance that they will commit the crime in the first place. “If you read about Ted Bundy’s life in prison, waiting nine years for his execution, you will see that the man exhausted every single point he and his lawyer could think of, all in attempt to spare him execution… this means he did not fear life in prison-at least as much as he feared capital punishment” (paragraph 12,14). If a man like Ted Bundy, who killed because he wanted to, is afraid of capital punishment, than all criminals should be afraid. This proves capital punishment can be used to stop crimes by putting fear in the criminals
