Should GMO Foods continue being sold?
As many would say gmo food should be continued but some may argue that it shouldn’t. GMO or Genetically Modified Organisms are foods that are being modified by their DNA. Some of these DNA’s may cause serious allergic reactions and we never know what we eat since these food are not labeled. We need to know if we are eating foods that are being modified. You would never know if something they put in the food would harm your health.GMO foods should continue to be sold but they would have to label them. Just because something is better it doesn’t mean everyone would prefer it.

Most people want to know if they are eating GMO foods. So it would be helpful. One evidence to support this claim is, “The potential GM foods cause allergic reactions is the most obvious health concern associated with these products… If a protein from people who are allergic to be incorporated into a food that normally would have not have this protein, people who are allergic to this protein could unknowingly have an allergic reaction.” This shows some proteins such as eggs, milk, wheat, fish, any type of nuts etc can have an allergic reaction without knowing. Another evidence that supports this is that gmo foods are food that are being changed from it’s uniquities. Meaning why would someone eat a food that would be modified? So if you only eat GMO’s wouldn’t you be eating the same thing since all food are being modified. In conclusion GMO foods can be unsafe if you are allergic to a certain type of
protein. GMO food should be sold in the U.S but be labeled because based on prior knowledge about 70 to 80% of GMO foods are being sold. The current U.S population is 320 million people and 80% of that is 256 million people are consuming gmo foods. Which basically it means people are eating chemicals. Some chemicals may be harmful to the body but the human body is not accustomed to chemicals that are inserted in our foods. One evidence to support this statement is, “By mixing genes from totally unrelated species, genetic engineering unleashes a host of unpredictable side effects. Moreover, irrespective of the type of genes that are inserted, the very process of creating a GM plant can result in massive collateral damage that produces new toxins, allergens, carcinogens, and nutritional deficiencies.” This shows that by mixing all these genes can create harmful side effects. Since your mixing unknown genes, you may get a different side effect. In conclusions some genes that are inserted in foods can be harmful to the human bodies and it may come with consequences. Some may say that GMO foods should continue but they don’t need to be labeled. Since they are improving the foods and making it better. Why would they label it if we we are eating good quality foods? These foods are not being labeled because they don’t want to lose customers where they sell them. If someone wants to buy a certain food but they want something organic, they would not buy any food because they are gmo. Also they don’t label them because of the foods quality. For example is someone wants to buy a fruit or vegetable and they buy a gmo food, they would see that the food is really great quality. Meaning they would want to buy more. So they would do this to increase sales. In conclusion we know that gmo foods not being labeled is to increase sales and make people want to buy more. Genetically modified? That alone should be a cause for alarm, and have you wondering, what exactly is in this that I am eating? Yet every day millions of American’s choose to load up on food filled with GMO’s, and not even know it. First we must understand what GMO’s are. GMO’s are any organism whose genetics has been altered using genetic engineering. We should not be tampering with nature, and should try to grow organically as much as possible. There has not been enough research on GMO’s to know the potential long term effects it can have on us, so this is why GMO’s should be banned.

One of my favorite episodes of the television show, "The Simpsons", begins with Marge, the mother, serving her family a dinner of unusually large, genetically modified foods. Shortly after dinner is served, one of the potatoes eats a carrot. Although this example is comedic hyperbole, it is still an excellent illustration of the public perception of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) as dangerous "Frankenfoods". This perception is out of touch with the reality of GMOs and runs contrary to a large body of scientific evidence that indicates that GMOs are safe for people and our environment.

Genetically modified foods are developed by combining genes from two different organisms which alters it's DNA and do not occur naturally. Biotechnology is relatively new so like most people, I turned to research to argue this issue with facts. In my opinion, genetically modifying foods have more harmful effects than they do beneficial. I am against their use because it creates safety risks for our health and animals, it can damage the environment and we have to deal with the total costs.

Though you may not know it, most of what you eat has some form of a genetically modified organism in it. The Food and drug administration, also known as the FDA, has stated that companies in the US are not required to inform the consumer on whether or not a food contains any form of a GMO, or a Genetically Modified Organism. Of course GM foods have to meet the same requirements as any conventional food would, but just because there is no immediate harm to humans, does not mean that there are no consequences at all.
