The electoral college is an archaic method implemented with the election process of a new president in the United States of America. It’s Its use in today’s world is debated and some argue it doesn’t give a candidate an accurate reading of what his votes could have been. The system uses electoral votes per state, states have differing amounts of electoral votes and whichever candidate wins the most votes wins the race. In the United States, this method of electing a president isn’t as simple as it should be, it’s an overly complex process and I’ll be explaining why it's completely obsolete. This system is old, before television and mainstream media a lot of people prior to presidential races weren't as informed about candidates as they are now. The Electoral College was a crutch used in past centuries for people who had the handicap of being wrongly informed, or just not informed at all. We have gotten free from the broken bone of ignorance and this crutch is not needed due to the media, comma splcie instead it’s keeping us from walking rather than assisting us. Today with this system in use it allows the election of a President who does not have the support of most voters. For example in the 2000’s Al Gore had more general votes across the country overall, but George Bush won key smaller states with more electoral votes which ultimately made Al Gore lose. Without the use of the Electoral College, candidates would try to get as many sole votes as possible in every state, instead of focusing on states that provide key electoral votes likes Florida, New York york, and California.
