There are many valid reasons that a university should adopt a 4-day schedule rather than the traditional 5-day schedule. More colleges around the United States are doing this and the effects are coming out positive. I will go into depth on the reasons why this could be beneficial to many students. The first unyielding reason that this would be beneficial to students is that they would have more time for sleep. They would come back to school on Monday feeling more refreshed. It could help students have more time to study harder, and be more focused considering they would be more well rested. Sleep is crucial to the success of college students, or any student for that matter. This could possibly give students a better outlook on school, as well …show more content…
This would also give them more time to give feedback to students. The teachers would also have more time to prep for upcoming classes. Teachers would also be able to give back work to students, giving the students more of an opportunity to study their work and feedback. This would give students more room to breathe and get their assignments done correctly.
Another propitious reason that DSU should change its schedule, is that it could work with more people’s schedules. It would be easier to work around 4 days a week rather than 5 days when it comes to jobs, family life, and kids. Having more time with family would make students happier. It could also give students a better outlook on school. Ultimately the new schedule could give students that have children more time to spend with them, ultimately giving the student’s a better attitude towards school.
Another pro to the shorter school schedule is that the curriculum would move faster since there would be less in-class time. This could lead the students to feeling more productive. With a tighter packed 4-day schedule, students would be busier in class and would have less down-time to be bored and lethargic. The more work that they are doing, the busier they are physically and mentally. This would conclusively lead to an ultimate use of in-class time for the students, so they get more done in the time
First of all, having longer passing periods would help our teachers. Teachers are always in a rush to get stuff done for the next class. Sometimes when teachers have to go to the bathroom they don’t have enough time. When a teacher is absent another teacher has to check up on the sub to make sure they’re doing everything right. Then teachers have to give students make-up work. Teachers also have to answer any questions students might have. Teachers
Students now have the opportunity to work another day to save for their future. The four-day school week also provides much more time for these children to spend and enjoy time with friends, and family, as well as enjoying extracurricular activities. There is a lovely environment for the children at the school and an extra day for the instructors to gain knowledge and a better understanding of their curriculum. The schools will be saving a varying amount of money that could be used in case of an emergency with money of any kind. Whether it is an emergency funding program, or money to fund an extracurricular activity. In conclusion, the four-day school week has proven itself to be a very effective form of education that Colby Public Schools most certainly should switch to within the coming
Students may need to nap to compensate for energy expended throughout the day. However, if schools were to start later, adolescents would not have to nap, allowing for a larger window of time to spend with their families after school, even with a later start time. Another opposing argument is that students would have less time to participate in extracurricular activities. However, this issue can be resolved by making practices for sports and club meetings shorter and more frequent to accommodate the schedule variation. Overall, the benefits of later start times far outweigh the drawbacks.
Students test scores are slipping because of 4-day school weeks.I believe we shouldn’t have a 4-day school week because studies have shown that schools with 4-day school weeks test scores have declined in 2012 and even more in 2013.Teachers from every school with 4-day school weeks say that kids don’t pay attention because they add 30 minutes to each class time during the 4-day school week.Courtney Fisher is a second grade teacher. She says that the students seem tired all the time and eat much more in class.
But the students are not the only ones benefitting from this. Oh, no. Teachers will have more time to grade work, overall reducing that stress. Also, teachers will get more times for vacation and spending time with family. So, with no school on Friday, teachers are also presented with advantages.
According to some school districts, "teachers and student absences have decreased with the four-day school week. The reason for the decrease in teachers and students' absences is logical because that one extra day will help them finish what they need to in the right amount of time. Another issue that can be prevented with a four day of school is the increasing drop out rate and disciplinary referrals in high school. Having disciplinary referrals can cause a bad impression on teachers and colleges.
Now days, normal American students go to school 5 days in a week. However, some places over the United States operate 4 days of school week system. Those school surprisingly observe positive changes. Therefore, American schools should operate 4 days of school week because schools can save their budget costs, and students can have more time to enjoy outdoor activities, pursue additional educational goals and improve academic achievement since students are in less stressful environment.
School should be four days a week with an extra hour added to each school day because it would save money for the school system, increase student motivation, stimulate the economy, and promote student achievement. There has been a decrease in education due to the small amount of resources, causing classrooms to be bigger and children not being able to extend their knowledge. Even though the economy has been falling, each school district has been working hard to promote student education, which could mean trading a traditional school schedule for a four-day school week. Replacing a normal school schedule for the four day school week can raise the school budget tremendously. (Hart, Demand Media).
Because of the extra day off every week, there is money saved from things such as lunches, bussing, staff salaries, and utility costs. In an article about the advantages of a four day school week, it is stated that “Transportation costs including fuel, bus maintenance and driver salaries are reduced. Also, if facilities are used only four days per week instead of five, there is a significant reduction in utility costs to the system. Money spent to fund school breakfast and lunch programs are reduced by 20 percent, as is spending associated with all hourly cafeteria and custodial workers” (Bradley 2). In another article through the University of Scranton, they say “Transportation costs [are] down 35 percent, and utility costs are down by 8 percent” (Bisk 4). Based on these statistics, schools can save enough money, to make the conversion worth it. These are just some of the things the schools can save money on, there are others, but these alone prove that schools save favorable amounts of money when they shorten their week by just a
The second con to a four day school week would be having more homework. Being a kid would know that having a four
Switching back to these classes will help us stay focused in class because of the shortened times. Also with these shorten I think that some students grades will get higher.
There are many opinions and studies about reforming school days. Some people are concerned that longer school days would bring more difficulties. However, there are numerous studies and practical examples that prove that we improve students’ performance by lengthening school days. Finally, the economy and our society will benefit from expanding school days.
Imagine being a student returning to school after several days of being sick, only to be greeted with mountains of make-up work. The only thing that comes to your mind is, “Where am I going to find the time to finish this?” Students should have an unlimited amount of time to make up assignments because of the possibility of major tragedies and because some students have activities besides school they need to focus on.
To began with, students would be social with friends. It would be hard when you don't have breaks. Students wouldn’t be getting in trouble all the time. Students and teachers wouldn’t be stressed.they would be in a good mood and then they can be happy.
...s rarely notify to students when there's some change in schedule. We students just get up early, go to class and are told that now we have no class as usual. That's so trivial but that annoys many people. If we do not have a strict policy, then no more getting up early, no more hustle and bustle on bus and no more waste time like this. Furthermore, teachers may have more free time if students just stay at home and do homework. They just sit at the table with a Internet-connected computer and communicate with their students via email or such thing. Then they will have more time for scientific research - is it more productive? Vietnam now has very few scientists - many of whom just rush in teaching and be trapped with heave work-load. If we relieve the policy, then we will have more part-time scientists-that are teachers.
