Should Christians Drink? Take a position.
Should Christians drink? I feel is a very good question. With all of the societal problems such as
drunk driving, spousal abuse, and the sheer numbers that we are dealing with now. Also I am
not without the knowledge of the fact that there is alcoholism. It’s not an easy question to
answer when all of the different variances are associated.
The fact remains that in order to do this controversial subject report. I have to take
a position on the matter. So I will have to address the healing abilities of drinking alcohol. The
ethanol in alcohol cleanses the blood of things that can make you sick. I am also in the belief
that if God says it is alright in the Bible, than it is just that.
OLD TESTAMENT SUPPORTING SCRIPTURE
(1)However I do see in the scripture that a high level of discipline is called for if you are a
Christian that chooses to drink. There are statutes set that clearly define that the priests and
their sons had better not drink before entering the Tabernacle. Leviticus 10:9 KJV Do not drink
wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tabernacle of the
congregation, lest ye die: It shall be a statute forever throughout your generations.
(2)Now drinking wine is definitely not forbidden if the lord say’s in Amos 9:14 KJV And I will
bring again the captivity of my people of Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit
them; and they shall plant vineyards, and drink the wine Thereof; they shall also make gardens,
and eat the fruit of them.
(3)Here we find another Scripture where the priest of The Most High brought forth bread and
wine after the slaughter of Chedorlaomore. Genesis 14:18 KJV And Melchize...

What about ex-Alchoholics?
Are they to be tempted with wine during communion? Absolutely not!

In closing Jesus had no problem with the partaking of wine drinking. And went on to say that he
would not drink again until the day he drank it new with his disciples in his Fathers Kingdom. So
if God is alright with it. I for one will not oppose it. But I don’t drink.
As Herie and Skinner state “Beverage Alcohol can be described as a depressant drug which diminishes the activity in parts of the brain and spinal cord in accordance with the amount of alcohol in a person’s bloodstream” (Herie & Skinner, pg. 42). With its long history and unique properties such as the cure of all diseases “prolongs life, clears away ill humours, revives the heart and maintains youth”, alcohol is often related to tradition and expressions; many of these traditions are adaptation from earlier times where it was believed alcohol reflected water of life (Herie & Skinner, 2010). This is quite evident in Days of Wine and Roses where Joe is first seen drinking because “it was part of his job” and because “he had to because of everyone

One of the leading proponents of this philosophy was/were the millenarist (plural?). They believed that the closing stages of the world were unfolding. Thus, the Millernarts believed that their savior Jesus Christ comes back as predicted in Revelations. They thought that ridding the world of alcohol was necessary for their saviors return. They used the Temperance Movement as a means to achieve their ultimate goal—social salvation. The Temperance Movement was not just about abstaining from alcohol, but it was all about religion. In fact, the movement had a positive correlation with religion; which, meaning that when religious fever increases so does the popularity of temperance movement (Citation needed). In ess...
The Romans drank a lot of wine but not straight or quickly. “Diluting wine and drinking with restraint were ordinary courtesy. The purpose of a dinner party was relaxed enjoyment, not getting drunk.” (166) A Roman was supposed to manage this temptation. If Trimalchio and his guests didn’t consume so much alcohol then maybe the night would have gone a lot smoother.
People have believed in medicinal benefits of alcohol since ancient times, using it to cure snake bites and control disease. Even though the belief has begun to dwindle in the early twentieth century, alcohol was legally manufactured for medic...
In taking sides, it is evident that W.J. Rorabaugh was on the right track when he points out that many evangelic religious leaders formed groups to reiterate to the people that liquor was the tool of the devil and that basically, society would continue to...

“3 he shall separate himself from wine and strong drink. He shall drink no vinegar made from wine or strong drink and shall not drink any juice of grapes or eat grapes, fresh or dried. 4 All the days of his separation he shall eat nothing that is produced by the grapevine, not even the seeds or the skins.”

Research shows that 17.6 million people are suffering from alcohol abuse. According to the article “Facts about Alcohol”, it states that 88,000 people has died from excessive alcohol use and that alcoholism is the 3rd leading lifestyle related cause of death in the nation. Many people can debate on what excessive drinking truly is. Some may say having two to three drinks on a daily bases is excessive and then you have people that argue and say having a drink every day is excessive. Doctors and phycologist often say that excessive drinking goes to the purpose of why the person is drinking and often ask is the drink a want or a need. If the person answers as if they need the drink or drinks then they would classify those individual’s as excessive drinkers and that they are experiencing substance
Of course, everything in this world is created by people for people; so is alcohol. Thus, drinking it may have some positive results; especially, if we recall history lessons, where we were taught that healers had used spirits as a common cold remedy. Alcohol ...
In today’s society, many people question the authority and inerrancy of the Bible in search of unquestionable proof to ascertain the acute accuracy and trustworthiness of it’s writers. When the Bible is referred to as authoritative, we as believers, must demonstrate where the authority was originated. By definition, authority is the right and power to command, enforce laws, exact obedience, determine or judge (Elwell, 2011,pg 153). Authority may be bestowed or inherent as demonstrated in our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus, were both aspects are combined.
