One look at an email can rob someone of 15 minutes of focus and one text message can result in someone blowing off something important, like school. Cell phones should not be allowed at Lindbergh High School. Many people disagree on whether or not cell phones should be allowed, but Monique Conrod speaks out the consequences of phones in an article called Schools Divided Over Cellphones in Classrooms. Ms. Conrod announces, “One of the main reasons, for banning cell phones is that they can distract students from their work… the students admitted they... used their [electronics] for things other than school for more than half the time they were in class” (Conrod). If cellphones are allowed in class, then students will not pay attention to what
Have you ever heard of the gruesome Columbine High School massacre? This incident occurred on April 20th 1999 and involved two students embarking on a shooting rampage, killing twelve students, a teacher and wounding twenty three others. Unfortunately during this incident, the school's most easily accessible phone was on the other side of the school in the library. Perhaps some of these lives could have been saved if the students in this class had cell phones that they could've used to contact the authorities more quickly. The issue we are addressing today is the use of cellular devices in educational facilities. I believe that cell phone use is of extreme convenience, and has academically beneficial aspects, among it's so called "faults".
A great deal of students in a classroom, either in grade school of university, own a cell phone that does not leave their sight. Anyone can agree with that. In my own perspective, I believe that out of consideration of others around you, that cell phones for the most part, should be allowed in the classroom.
One reason that cell phones should be banned from classrooms is because students who use them fall into a daze of distracted learning. Classes are taught by teachers, whose goal is to give the student an educational experience, learning things they will need to apply to their later life. However, students on their cellphones are distracted from their learning and never use the lessons taught. Over 2,000 cellphone disturbances were reported in New York City in the past school year (Backstory). This means that over 2,000 people had issues with cellphones interrupting classroom discussi...
Picture this, there has been a school lockdown, the suspect cut the landlines so no one could call the police for a rescue. However, the suspect was captured by the police much faster than he imagined. The last scene wouldn’t have happened if it was one decade ago, because cell phones were not popular in schools then. When it comes to cell phones, some people think they should not be permitted in schools, and other people think they should be permitted in schools. I agree with the latter opinion for the following reasons: Cell phones are an efficient way to communicate when emergencies occur in school; cell phones can be a great tool for learning during school hours; and the current prohibitive rules on cell phones are merely fruitless efforts. Cell phones should be permitted in schools, because they could be very beneficial and practical in schools.
Teachers and students have long been at war over the various issues concerning cell phones. Many teachers say that cell phones ringing, vibrating and making other noise disrupt a class, though in fact, many teachers’ complaints could be rendered null and void if students were allowed to use cell phones. Usage of phones out of class, in lunch and in the hallways should be allowed, as well as in the class, but at the teacher’s discretion for the student to use for their education, safety, and for their social interaction.
two reasons: Distraction and Cheating, having cell phones in elementary schools is a distraction. Because students aged between five to ten doesn’t have the potential to control their emotions, the most important thing for the students is to keep track of his lessons. But if students are allowed to have their cell phones turned off inside the classes there is still big chances that every student can have that is whenever the teacher started writing a lesson ...
Should cellphones be aloud in schools? Currently there are two sides of the arguments, one side is that phones should be out and be able to used in class. The other side is that cell phones should not be out in class. Cell phones should be allowed in class because they improve learning, and they help kids physically.
Ever since incidents such as 9/11 and Columbine, high schools have started implementing new rules regarding cellphones. Cellphones regard the attention of building managers, teachers, parents, and students. Although teachers see them as a distraction and a way to cheat, they can be quite helpful to students. School districts should permit students to use cellular devices in school for purposes of improving their education and providing themselves a sense of security.
Another reason that cell phones should be allowed in school is that computers can do most everything a phone can do “when most schools provide computers with internet access to their students, students can send text messages to cell phones from an e-mail account, and most cell phones function like computers with web browsing” (George and Cook). When schools put a ban to phones students are not allowed to contact a parent until after school, “that included students who are calling for a ride home after they finished a test before the usual time school ended” (George and Cook). A bad on cell phone use can also put a strain on the relationship between students and their teachers, as teachers have to enforce the rules. However, though some believe cell phone use should be allowed, the counter claim to that is “Phones should be banned in school”.
In order to stop cheating and disruptive behavior that cell phones cause, schools should ban cell phones. All schools should be doing what they are doing in Elk Grove because it will help people and stop people from cheating and invading privacy. As Armstrong said, cell phones are not the answer for safety as some parents or politicians say, although they can be disruptive and can cause trouble. Cell phones can be distracting for everyone in class not only the cell phone user whether the person is texting or playing games and it can be used for cheating, texting, inappropriate web searches, and even drug deals. All schools and public places should ban mobile phones in locker rooms or where people expect to have
There are many reasons cell phones should be allowed in schools. Cell phones have unlimited possibilities when it comes to gaining information. School systems having access to current and up to date information is important to help students learn. Jacqueline Leiker, a technology professor, wrote an article called “Cell Phones in the Classroom”. In her article, Leiker explains that since she allowed cell phones in her classroom, the communication between her and her students couldn’t be better.
One reason cell phones should be allowed in the classroom is for the safety of students.serious emergencies, like a school threat or shooting, cell phones could help students connect with worried parents. In just 11 weeks 17 school shootings have happened Cell phones can be used by students to report any emergency; students can contact their parents if the school has closed because of a natural disaster or any other abrupt cause. This means that cell phones in the classroom could mean no more worrying parents and the safety of many of children at school.
Do cell phones belong in school. Do cell phones belong in school? The answer is yes, they do. There are many reasons why cell phones should be able to be in school. Some people don't agree that cell phones should be in school, they think that it distracts us.
Students constantly use their phones or devices in school and as a student, I do it myself, but some students use their phones as curricular devices. NEA Today, reported “in 2016 that 70 percent of districts across the country that had once banned student phones reversed themselves ad now allow them.” Students always have a way to get away from learning and always have something to distract themselves from the teacher or what is being taught. There is always a mental or physical block of learning and phones can make that more challenging towards the teacher, but if rules are put in place and schools can adapt to the ways that phones can and will be used. Phones should be allowed in schools because they can and are used in much more ways than to use snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, or games. The schools need to learn that phones will always be used and rules should be set in place to make and problem better than they already are. Students can always find their way around the rules but if students and staff cooperated, students might be able to learn more and teachers won’t need a challenge to get the students attention and have them focus on the lesson, when it could all be avoided and set rules and boundaries to make the whole problem better and find a
Today’s cell phone is the front line technology at our fingertips. Keeping this in mind the use of cell phones have become an affair when it comes to allowing teens to use them in educational environments, such as schools. One part of society supports the use of cell phones while the other part of society disapproves the use of cell phones. I personally believe that cell phones should not only be allowed in school, but cell phones should be mandatory just like a textbook. Cell phones do not only allow students to stay united with friends and family, but cell phones are also a magnificent learning system, and they boost the liable use of technology.
