Imagine being in a war, thousands of your people are dying, but you've found the ultimate weapon that will give you the upper hand. However, thousands upon thousands would be killed including many women and children, and it could be considered very unethical. However, if you don't use it, more people would die. This is the position America found itself in during World War 2. In the end, the U.S decided to drop two nuclear bombs in Japan. By doing this, they ended the war sooner, saved thousands of lives, hundreds of dollars, and any hope of ever getting along with Japan. In response to the question, “was it ethical for the U.S to drop nuclear bombs on Japan?”, I answer yes.
To see things clearly, you must realize that without the atomic bomb being used, hundreds upon thousands of more people would have died. In the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, around 225,000 people were killed.(http://www.aasc.ucla.edu/.html) But if the U.S had instead gone with a ground invasion, the results would have been even more devastating. “Military advisers to President Harry S. World war 2 killed more people, involved more nations, and cost more money than any other war in the history of the world. The people lived in fear for four long weary years, and the soldiers were left wondering if they would ever get to see their families again. In May “the Allies defeated Germany...War with Japan continued, however, and In August 1945 it seemed that an invasion of Japan itself might be necessary to force the Japanese to surrender.” (https://www.khanacademy.org) If the U.S had not used nukes, the war would have gone on for who knows how long. More money would have been spent and more lives lost then necessary. So with this the U.S made the smartest and most ethical decision
