If you had a child or children that wanted to make their own medical decisions when they turn 14-15 years old would you let them make those decisions so early in life? Well there are some parents that do let their own 14-15 years old children make their own medical decisions, For example, when your 15 year old daughter has leukemia and you wants to start treatment right away but your daughter wants to wait till after the friday concert to start treatment. If you were this girl 's mother what would your response be? Well you probably have the same answer as me. So I honestly think that adolescents should have the right to make autonomous medical decisions. First, health care professional have a fundamental duty to do what 's best for their patients. Healthcare professionals are supposed to have great emphasis to provide the respect to their patients autonomy in adult healthcare. No matter the choice the patient makes to do with his or her care. As a child you need time to transition between dependence and vulnerability of childhood and autonomy of being an adult. The capacity and ability to make their own free will choices. Legally, adolescents to consent and confidentiality depends on how they professionally exercise it. Evidence proves that adolescents the age of 14-15 year olds have similar capacities as an adult. Adolescents may not always act the way you want them to act, the analytic processesses may not be best for decision making. Also adolescents may show emotions to decisions making because of external influences like perceptions and peer group pressure. Cognitive assessment of capacity may not take sufficient accounts of emotional and psychological components of making decisions on their own. The PFC (Prefrontal Cortex... ... middle of paper ... ...e most likely to end up pregnant and then when the teens didn’t want the baby they got an abortion. The medical decision of getting an abortion is a major decision that teens make when they are pregnant. Most states passed laws for minors consent to confidential reproductive health services and mental health services. Finally, I think that adolescents should have the responsibility to make their own autonomous medical decisions, but also take time to think about decision they are making first. Adolescents are people too and if you look at a 16 year old as a mature adult then you should look at 14-15 year old as adults as well. Everyone is equal everyone should be treated equal. Also it is legal for adolescents to have their rights, if we as citizens in the United States of America didn’t have the right to privacy I don’t think that we would have our Bill of Rights.
Autonomy is a concept found in moral, political, and bioethical reasoning. Inside these connections, it is the limit of a sound individual to make an educated, unpressured decision. Patient autonomy can conflict with clinician autonomy and, in such a clash of values, it is not obvious which should prevail. (Lantos, Matlock & Wendler, 2011). In order to gain informed consent, a patient

In America, the legal age to sign off on any medical consent is 18 years of age. Seventeen year olds should be able to compose their own medical decisions, and sign off on their own medical consents. Power should land in their hands, accompanied by the professional advice of a doctor. It is your body, be compelled to fabricate a decision without having to have your parent’s signature.
Teenagers who become mothers have harsh prospects for the future. Teenagers obtaining abortions are 20% and girls under 15 accounts for 1.2%. They are much more likely to leave of school; receive insufficient prenatal care; rely on public assistance to raise a child; develop health problems; or en...
Most of the time parents take decision for a minor, even in the worst scenarios their decisions are always for the best interest of the child. Parental autonomy should always be respected unless the child is at greatest risk for not getting the vaccine.
How can a child make the decision for the life of another child by themselves? In this paper I will outline the mental, physical, and safety issues of minors (age 18 and under) having an abortion and why it is so important that they need to get parental consent before making this life long decision.
Second, to ensure that parental rights are enforced; minors should need parental consent to obtain an abortion (Earll). Parents are legally responsible for the well-being of their children. They are responsible for giving th...
Just imagine a 17 year old girl sitting on her bathroom floor. She is staring at this plastic stick that is now going to determine her choices for the rest of her life. The little plus sign causes her stomach to tense up and her throat to choke up. Who will help her? Who will pay for the food her and her baby need? Who is the father? Will she finish high-school and go to college? How will her parents react? This young girl has a choice that will have major impact on her life no matter what she decides. What if she was able to decide when and how she wanted these decisions/questions to come up? That young girl isn’t the only girl thinking about this choice; actually thousands of girls are. The United States has the highest teenage
Teenagers still should have the chance to grow up and to experience “love” and relationships without their life being jepordized by other parents because they are unhappy about their children's relationship. In other words, they should not be considered an “adult” because they really do not understand the law or what is actually going on in life. Twenty years of age would be more of an appropriate age that people can actually be considered an adult.
Everybody parents their kids in different ways and everybody has their own opinion on how other parents parent there kids. Whether people like it or not nobody should be told how to raise their own child. But that will never change because we have health care facilities like Planned Parenthood who allow minors to get birth control without parents’ consent. Why should places like that give a child birth control after the parent had already said no. Although health care facilities do help a lot for other needs for women, one of the rules should change to ALL minors need a parents consent to receive birth control.
As we see in the world today many teens are becoming mothers before they finish high school or before they turn 18. Although some teens are on birth control already many are not because they are afraid to tell their parents which may lead to their parents thinking they are sexually active. Moreover, teens usually find themselves in a professional clinic trying to seek different options of birth control but they are derailed by having parental consent or notification. Many clinics have a policy were teen needs to have parental consent to receive birth control. Many parents feel that teens should be able to make the choice by themselves if they are having sex or just being careful. But the one question many parents are unable to agree upon is should teens be allowed to receive birth control without parental consent.
In America, one million teenagers get pregnant every year (National Abortion Federation, 2003). Of these pregnancies, 78% are unplanned because these teenagers start having sex at a very young age and are unaware of ways to prevent pregnancies. Thirty five percent of the pregnant teenagers chose to abort, as they fear that the consequences of the pregnancy might cause significant effects to their lives. The problems that come with teenage pregnancies include dropping out of school, receiving inadequate prenatal care, developing health problems, relying on public assistance to raise a child, and probably divorcing their partners. In most states, the law allows pregnant teenagers to take their babies for adoption without consulting their parents. The same laws allow the teenagers to have an abortion but require parental notification or consent before carrying out the procedure. These laws prove biased as they favor one resolution over the other, as they force some to bear babies they do not want by restricting their options.
In society today, teens are taught by the television and the media that pre-marital sex is not a bad thing. This problem is leading to many teenage pregnancies, that then lead to abortion. All over the world teens are faced with many challenges in their everyday lives. Sex is being portrayed as extremely appealing in the media, but what they don't show is the pregnancies and the unborn child that never asked to be created in the first place that is being discarded. Abortion is in no way acceptable, it is murder of an unborn child.
There are some questions a patient 's doctor must be a secret, you can not tell a third party about the problem. Another example, if a teenager says to a doctor, "I am depressed, I have been trying to kill myself" ( "Youth confidential: a young person 's right to privacy"). Doctors are not sure of information, because the doctor is this guy right help. Teen confidentiality concerns may be an important barrier to access to health services. Adolescents have the right to contraception confidentiality when it comes to contraception.
