I need to conduct several self-assessments yearly to check the status of achieving my long term goals. These assessments are a great practice to ask myself where am I located on the road to my Long-term goals. The self-assessment in my goal set will allow me to gain needed information or adjust the process to achieve the final end state. When I'm asked to identify my short or long-term goals, understanding the SMART method provides a clear path to those goals. Each item in the method must be viewed as part of a whole, allowing me to make adjustments and increases the likelihood of the final goal or the objective passes those standards (Greenwood,
Law enforcement like much of the economy and society has had to adapt to the rapidly changing Atmosphere of the technological advances. To counter these advances, education has served in the forefront to combating the technological sophistication that is rapidly sweeping the workforce. The need and desire to remain competitive with the technology that we have is a need that can be satisfied with more education. Much like technology, education has benefits elsewhere in the equation of remaining competitive. Education on the higher tiered level provides a professionalism to accompany by the demands placed on students during their scholastic years of study. Activities required by many professors in the higher education realm provide skills needed to polish the individual for his or her place in society. Is this now so hard to conceive that law enforcement may also have to do the same? Over the past three decades the demands that law enforcement have encountered have greatly increased as the changing times and technologically stimulated problems have come into light. Higher Education plays a large part in the professionalization and advancement of police into the modern context of what is needed and expected of police.
The curriculum that is devised for a police officer is very important to the police officer and his or her success in their chosen career path. An officer’s training is also very important to the community in which they serve and the department in which they work. An officer must receive training in a variety of fields to help them be a well-rounded police officer. Officers receive training in such areas as: law, community relations, firearms, vehicle driving, search and seizure, and cultural awareness. The basic curriculum that is offered to a new recruit is focused on giving the recruit the best overall training that will give him or her the tools necessary to become the best police officer they can be. I have developed a curriculum that is well rounded and covers the basic necessities a recruit needs in order to become an officer.
“How to motivate law enforcement officers” is an article that was written by James A. Jancewicz and published in the Law enforcement magazine on April 7th, 2016. In the article, Mr. James argues that police officers need the motivation to inspire excellence as the belief of being called to protect and serve are not enough. Motivating officers will ensure the long-term success of the law enforcement as the communities will be safe and the enforcement will be respected. Motivation in the law enforcement includes giving officers training and opportunity for challenge, allowing
Many issues and problems emerge in organizations that require action by leadership in order to maximize productivity. Because numerous decisions are made on any given day in an attempt for a school or organization to operate as smoothly as possible, constant effort and energy is required to monitor an organization’s culture. A problematic situation in my current organization that is rooted in employee motivation and attitudes is the lack of satisfaction communicated by group members. A year ago, the organization participated in a culture assessment that was conducted by the Kentucky School Boards Association (KSBA). This audit was ordered by our executive director because of the displeasure and dissatisfaction employees were communicating and displaying while at work. The
We are living in an age of technological growth. The speed and creativity of this growth is unprecedented and can be seen almost everywhere you look. One of the most prevalent changes that technology has created is the way that we work. Furthermore, it hasn’t just helped with the work of people like computer programmers or data analyzers; no, it has impacted almost every job in some way. One career that isn’t usually thought to have too much to with technology is policing. But actually, just in the last couple of years major breakthroughs have been made that can make it easier for police officers to keep us safe. Brand new data systems have been developed and officers now have more ways to communicate with each other than ever before. And new surveillance technologies have made policing safer for us, and for all the

For a long time I have been trying to create short and long term goals for both my education and career. The problem when coming up with goals is it always seems like a straight road or path to get there. As I have journeyed down this road I have encountered many forks I did not plan on originally. Whether it be finding the love of my life and getting married or having children earlier than expected, or the multiple deployments I have been on where continuing to take classes is impossible. My path has changed many times over the years, but my overall goals remain the same, complete a bachelor degree, become an officer in the military, complete a master degree, retire, and work for myself in some capacity.
The following assessment tools foster self-discovery, growth, and solving problems of living. The overall framework focuses on creating a relationship, analyzing the issues, planning action that is backed by evidenced-based research, taking appropriate action through evidenced-based interventions, and then evaluating the actions (Hutter, Pijpers, & Oudejans, 2016)
What is my personal purpose? Is a question that I have never thought to ask myself until recently. Then when I started learning more about a personal purpose I started wondering if I have one and what it was. I never thought of myself has having a real purpose until a watched an interview Will Smith had did and he had said “When your life means something to someone other than yourself than you have a purpose.” That is when I realized that I have a purpose. My purpose is that I am the hug that let others know it is going to be ok. My personal goals is to be genuinely happy with myself and life and to make my parents proud, my career goal is to own my own business and being successful at doing so, finally, my educational goal is to get my bachelors degree and grauate with honors and even moving on to getting my masters. Having goals is important to me because I know that while I am in the process of accomplishing them I will have something great to look forward to in the end.
Self assessment is a process in which you examine yourself in attempt to discover and learn more about yourself. Your likes, dislikes, behaviors, attitudes and habits can be found during this process. You can use the discoveries to your advantage by accepting or changing strengths and weaknesses. I plan on using this course to enhance my personal skills to become a better student and find success in earning my Bachelor of Arts degree at Ashford University in Social Science. Self Assessment is the first step in my successful future.

My main short-term goal is going to college after high school to further my education and allow myself to have a better career in the future. I can accomplish this goal at St. Cloud State University, by attending and earning a degree in Software Engineering. Another short-term goal of mine is to become a more independent person. I can accomplish this by attending St. Cloud State and either living with some of my friends who are also attending St. Cloud State or by living in a dorm on campus. The most prominent long-term goal that I currently have is graduating from college with a degree in Software Engineering and being able to start a career in that field. The main reason I chose SCSU for attaining this goal is that SCSU has one of the only
Out of everything that we 've learned this quarter, goal setting was something that stood out to me. There are a few times where I set a goal in my head but end up never achieving them, wether it was something very simple or more of a long term goal. A technique that stood out to me in our notes is, writing down your goals. I don 't I 've ever written down a single goal that I 've had. In class and in our notes we talked about how it is important to write down your goals and how you cannot just write the general idea of your goal, but how you need to be very specific in what it is you want to achieve. I think that in college it 's very important to set long, mid, and short term goals because somedays will be harder than others and you need
