At the beginning of The Outsiders by S.E Hinton, Ponyboy Curtis, known as a greaser is walking home from a movie when he is attacked and gets cut by the higher class, the Socials or for short, Socs. Ponyboy’s “gang” of greasers hear him crying for help and help save him and chase the Soc’s away. The boys who saved Pony included Johnny, Two-Bit, Dallas and Steve. It also included his 2 older brothers, Darry and Sodapop. Darry took the responsibility to take care of his two younger brothers because their mom and dad died in a car accident that involved a train. Ponyboy falls asleep in a lot and it upsets Darry. Ponyboy, who is sick of his cruelness since his parents died, starts fighting back. They began fighting and Darry hits Ponyboy. Ponyboy leaves the house, goes to find Johnny and says he wants to run away and they head to the park to calm down. The Soc’s attack the grease boys and grab Ponyboy and start drowning him in a fountain, while Johnny is kicked to the ground. Johnny gets mad and goes after the boys with his pocketknife. There is a group of kids, and several are stuck inside. Pony, Johnny and Dally jump in and save the kids, but as Johnny saves the last kid, a burning beam falls on him, Pony passes out and Dally saves Johnny. Johnny is badly burned and broke his back. The next morning, the newspaper comes out and states that Johnny will be charged with the killing of Bob. Both Johnny and Pony will have to go to court to determine everything. That night, it was time for the rumble and the greasers win. After the fight, Dally and Pony visit Johnny and he dies. Dally couldn’t take Johnny’s death and robs a store. He later is shot and killed by the police. A few days later, Pony attends the hearing at the court. The court rules that Ponyboy is allowed to stay with Darry and cleared of the charges. After the hearing, he goes back to school and hopes to start a normal life
