Turn Down The Volume I Can’t See “Sound of Thunder” is a short story written by Ray Bradbury and read by Miss Windish’s creative comp. class. Five men went back in time to hunt dinosaurs. Only two of the men were tour guides, the others were the hunters. One strict rule was to stay on the path at all times. The men agreed and did as told until one man, Eckles, accidently stepped outside the path. The men were upset and rightfully so. When the men got back to there time zone something had changed but not for the greater good. How could a tiny change in history change something so little yet so important. When the man stepped on the grass one would think a species would die or one would stay alive. However when Eckles stepped on the …show more content…
One theory is that the dinosaurs died in a fiery explosion. If this statement is true, the surrounding organisms would also die off. Including the bit of grass Eckles stepped on. If the author mentioned a way they died without the nature around them dying the change in history would be more believable. The purpose for writing this story other than entertaining others is to try to change history. Even if going back in time was possible changing history would change the future and not always for the best. In the story stepping on a blade of grass changed an election and spelling of words. Image if Germany won World War One, life would be so much different than how it is now. No one can ever know for sure on if travel through time is possible, but if so, watching an event would be alright. Interfering and killed something deems as a bad idea. In conclusion, time is not something to mess with. You will never know the outcome whether is happened in the past or not. Trying to make the world a better place is always a good thing but if you were to ever try to change the history it would never work on how you want it. Also, add information that could explain something even the tiniest bit. If you know why something happened it adds that much more to a
In 1952, Ray Bradbury published the science fiction short story “A Sound Of Thunder.” The story was about a hunter named Eckels who goes to a company called Time Safari Inc, which allows hunters to travel back in time to hunt the Tyrannosaurus rex, while he back in time he steps on a butterfly which causes the present time to change. The film version of “A Sound Of Thunder” that came out in 2005 has a similar plot; a group of hunters go back in time at Time Safari Inc. which causes an unknown change in the present that Travis Ryer and Sonya Rand try to find the cause and fix.
The larger repercussions of this form of history, is that it misses out on the larger purpose of history. The most important part of history to be told truthfully is the bad part. Imagine our history glazing over Hitler as a crazy guy who acted alone, and forced everybody in Germany to go along with his plan. We need to hear the story that regular people were pulled into his mentality, that random Joe's were converted into Jew-hating murderers.
rewrite history, let history speak for itself, good or bad and don't inflate or deflate it
Travelling through time is certainly easy to imagine. You step into the time machine; press a few buttons; and emerge out not just anywhere – but anywhen. However, in reality things aren’t quite as convenient as science fiction would suggest, as you will understand later on.
“A good science fiction story should be able to predict not the automobile but the traffic jam.” -Fredrick Pohl. A Sound of Thunder by Ray Bradbury is about a man name Eckel who was seeking the ultimate hunt of killing a tyrannosaurus rex in the past. However, he had failed to follow the rules and went off the marked path, killing a butterfly. When he and the rest of his troop returned back to their time they found things had changed and Eckel was soon after shot for what he had done. Nethergrave by Gloria Skurzynski is about a young boy named Jeremy who was seen as a failure in real life, but made a home for himself online. He was transported to a website he had never seen before and chose to stay inside the game rather than return to his
In the short story, "A Sound of Thunder" a man named Eckels tests the delicacy of life while traveling back in time to hunt the most ferocious predator to ever walk the planet. Ray Bradbury develops the theme that every choice made has an effect so we must be cautious of our actions in times of confidence, fear and guilt. Eckels is a young man, determined to hunt for his biggest catch yet and he enters TIME SAFARI INC. hoping they can give him the thrill he's been looking for. He has hunted many things like tigers, wild boars and elephants but has never hunted something like this. In his excitement he, "waved a check for ten thousand dollars to the man behind the desk" and was ready for his safari (Bradbury 1). He showed confidence
We use dinosaurs to represent the changes in nature that have occurred throughout time. Studies found that although the “oldest rock did not show evidence of life, the progression of plant and animal life that changed in recognizable intervals, from ancient life, age of reptiles to the age of mammals” (Dino Nature Metaphor, slide 6), measured the age of the earth. When we think of dinosaurs in relation to nature, we think of that very powerful force that controls the cycle of life. Nature was able to yield such magnificent ferocious creatures that walked the earth and then take them back when they served nature’s purpose. Dinosaurs fit perfectly in nature’s constant
“Sound of Thunder” by Ray Bradbury starts off when a man named Eckle and Travis and Lesperance all travel back in time millions of years to hunt a Tyrannosaurus rex for the Time Safari Inc. When they arrive in the time of the dinosaurs, Eckle was clearly instructed only to stay on the hovering path, otherwise it could alter the future. When they heard the loud thunderous footsteps of the T-rex Eckle became entranced by the enormous creature. When being caught by the eye of the beast, the T-rex was shot and killed, but a more
There has been a debate about what happened to the dinosaurs since they were discovered. There are many thoughts of what happened to the dinosaurs, the two main theories behind the extinction are scientific and religious. Proof for both theories do exist and debates between scientists are still going on to which one really happened. It is a mystery as much for Evolutionists as it is for Creationists about the extinction of the dinosaurs. The fossil record of dinosaurs was poorly know for a long period of time. During this time period was when the dinosaurs were thought to have gone extinct. The scientific reason for their extinction was that there was a giant asteroid that caused chain reaction and wiped out the dinosaurs. Some scientists say the dinosaur’s extinction came quickly. Evolutionists say the dinosaurs went extinct 65 million years ago. Creationists say that the dinosaurs weren’t able to survive the Earth after the flood. Both of the theories have supporting evidence and that is why there is an ongoing debate over what really happened to the dinosaurs. (WGBH Educational Foundation and Clear Blue Sky Productions, Inc. et al., 2001)
The dramatic changes in climate that resulted from this huge collision were too much for the dinosaurs. They were not able to survive. Another theory that could explain how the dinosaurs became extinct is volcanic activity. A huge increase in volcanic activity at around 65 millions years ago could have pumped so much ash into the air that it blocked out the sun killing the dinosaurs. Some scientists believe that there was a severe ice age.
Imagine going back millions of years just to hunt a dinosaur. Imagine trekking through the jungle and seeing a gigantic thirty-foot tall ten-ton beast. Shooting at it causes the dinosaur to run forward, and a little step off of the Path in fear causes a catastrophe. “A Sound of Thunder” by Ray Bradbury proves that making mistakes can cost you more than you ever imagined. Looking into certain aspects of the story will help to define how mistakes came about, and how to solve them.
seems like it happened so sudden, as geologic time goes, that almost all the dinosaurs

The most popular theory of dinosaur extinction, the asteroid theory, says that dinosaurs died out because of a single, giant asteroid. They say that the asteroid that struck the earth near the Gulf of Mexico went 43,000 mph and spanned six miles wide (Erdman). When it hit the Earth the asteroid it left an enormous crater that measured 24 miles deep and 125 miles wide (Erdman). Just the impact of the asteroid destroyed the forests and landscape of the majority of North America due to its massive shock wave (Erdman). Many species went extinct when the asteroid hit, these species include dinosaurs, ammonites (certain ocean dwelling creatures), pterosaurs, and some plant groups dinosaurs, ammonites (mollusks related to the octopus and the chambered nautilus), pterosaurs, and certain plant groups. Although devastating, the asteroid did not wipe out all of the animals on Earth, it didn’t exterminate fish, frogs, turtles, birds, mammals and croco...
It’s more entertaining, memorable, and self-congratulatory that way. It doesn’t matter in the slightest if what considered to be history is based on truth and facts. Take for example the Almo Massacre (as related in King, p. 4). Written history states that this was the second largest Indian Massacre: out of three hundred Western immigrants, 295 of them were murdered by Natives (p. 4). There is even a plaque to immortalize the event and everything.
