“Ugghhh!” Tamiya says as she realizes her birthday was days away and she had nothing planned. “My birthday is always over the top, I have to do it big this year for my 18th birthday,” she said to herself. Last year Tamiya had the hottest birthday party, at the best venue, in LA and this year she wanted it to be even better than that. However, since then her father had lost his job and her mother was working overtime to make ends meet. Tamiya had been working as a tutor and saving her money but it wasn’t enough for what Tamiya had planned. The morning of her birthday she was very depressed. Her hair wasn’t done, she had nothing to wear, and it was storming badly that day. Just as she began to cry, smoke filled her room. When she opened her eyes a beautiful woman stood in front of her with big glittery wings and a crown full of diamonds. “Why is the beautiful birthday girl crying on her special day?” said the woman. “How did you know it was my birthday and who are you?” asked Tamiya. “My name is Mila and I am your Fairy Birthday Mother,” said Mila. Tamiya was in shock, she had nothing to say. “I am here to fulfill all of your wishes on your birthday, but wish carefully, because at 12:00 tonight all wishes will be final.” Tamiya couldn’t believe what was happening, so she decided to give it a try. “I wish I had the latest fashion on right now,” Tamiya wish. She looked down at her finger and realized that this might have just been her husband. She began to wonder around the house, looking at pictures of herself at her high school graduation, college graduation, and finally her family. She had two beautiful little girls and a handsome boy. While she was still trying to figure her life out, her phone began to ring, “Ms. Tamiya you have a client in your doctor’s office that wants to see you immediately. Tamiya couldn’t believe everything that was happening. She wasn’t ready for all of this responsibility, “A husband, kids, and job is not what I signed up for,” she said to herself. But she only had 15 minute before her birthday was
Susie’s mother opened the door to let Molly, Susie’s babysitter, inside. Ten-month old Susie seemed happy to see Molly. Susie then observed her mother put her jacket on and Susie’s face turned from smiling to sad as she realized that her mother was going out. Molly had sat for Susie many times in the past month, and Susie had never reacted like this before. When Susie’s mother returned home, the sitter told her that Susie had cried until she knew that her mother had left and then they had a nice time playing with toys until she heard her mother’s key in the door. Then Susie began crying once again.
On an ordinary day, Leslie opens the main door of her house, when she walked inside she saw her mom and sister Islla sitting on the coach. Islla was crying, and Leslie ask her “What happened?’ Why you crying?’”. Islla told her that she is pregnant and that she wants to keep the baby even if her boyfriend will be against the baby, but she will need to drop out from her University. In a few minutes of thinking, Leslie decided and told her sister “You don’t need to drop out I will help you to babysit with my nephew.”
Almost twenty years ago, around this time of the month, you had a baby girl on November twenty-six. Like every parent you are happy, smiling at the baby, holding my hands and taking pictures. I grew up, stood up, walked for the first time, said my first words, and lost my baby teeth. It’s time for me to go to my first day of school; you don’t want me to go because you got use to my presence in the house. Meanwhile, you are low-key wishing for me to stay a baby girl, when you know perfectly that it isn’t going to happen.
Cold sweat trickles down Kate's back as she stands over the hospital bed, watching the mother she cares for slowly pass away. The droning beep of the monitoring heart machine pierces through the air. Kate kisses her mother one last time, wiping warm tears from her watery eyes, and sluggishly begins to leave. Step by step out of the door the pain intensifies in her heart, but Kate must keep staying strong and move on. A new chapter of her life begins here. Much like Kate, Anna Quindlen undergoes with the catastrophic death of her mother dying of cancer, leaving her arriving at college with an entire new perspective. Her significant childhood and maturement, experiencing the death of her mother, and giving birth to three children influenced Anna Quindlen with her writings.
The patient was more beautiful than she realized. If only she could see it for herself. The color from her dainty face had drained to a sickened green tint and her eyes widened in fear. The walls of the clinic exam room were ordained in calming colors, but offered the young woman no comfort. She continued to blink rapidly as if she would awaken from the nightmare; her long eyelashes could not fan the health worker’s words away. She thought it was harmless, just a night of fun. It made her feel valuable and attractive. Yet being desired now left her alone, crumpling to the floor screaming between sobs and desperately reaching to the empty air around her. She couldn’t grasp any security. Not only did that harmless night of fun result in her becoming
Arriving at Lacey’s house I walk to the backdoor letting myself into the house. Lacey was putting on tanning lotion in the kitchen, “Lacey,” I called to her, “my mom wants me to pick up snacks for the beach, do you want to go into town with me?”, “Sure,” she replied, “do you mind if my cousin comes with us?”, “Of course I don’t mind,“ I answered, “but we have to get moving, my dad only left me the car to use ‘til noon.”
The small legs that whisked back and forth in the open space of the vehicle were full of energy. The young girl spent the day with the two people she admired the most. A bigger version of herself sat in the passenger seat with her husband driving next to her. They laughed over conversation. Every so often, the girl would stick thin fingers against her mother’s shoulder to receive her attention. She would say something trivial and obvious, but her mother would still entertain her. She absorbed every phrase her daughter said as if each filled her with a tremendous joy and was the greatest thing ever spoken. Her mother had selected a black dress for her today with a large white ribbon tied around her midsection. Her hair had been combed back in two braids so that the tips were touching her shoulder blades. They were coming home late from a Christmas party at church.
When a wife surprises her husband on his birthday, an ironic turn of events occurs. Katherine Brush’s “The Birthday Party” is a short story about relationships, told from the perspective of a nearby observer. Brush uses the words and actions of the married couple to assert that a relationship based on selfishness is weak.
In the days leading up to her graduation, she was so excited about receiving her diploma for her academic accomplishments, even though she hasn’t accomplished a lot in life by experiencing a little bit of it. She felt like the birthday girl with her pretty dress, beautiful hair, and the presents she received from Uncle Willie and her mother. She felt like it w...
You’re dreaming and you see your birthday from last year. You see the giant feast your mom made. Creamy mashed potatoes, just the way you like it, juicy roasted chicken with your favorite seasonings, and little green peas, your favorite. A giant mountain of gifts awaits you in the living room, and after that grand meal a giant cake with two tiers with just the right amount of frosting is next. As you start to take a bite, you wake up. For a split second you forget. You forget that your dad lost his job, your brother died working in a mine, you have no money, no food, and that you nearly lost your entire head of hair at the factory. Then the deep growl howling from your stomach snaps you back
The phone fell from the woman's hand, landing with a loud crash on the tile floor and busting to pieces. No matter how hard she'd try, she couldn't help the sobs that escaped from her mouth. They became louder and louder, until suddenly they came to a stop. All emotion flooded from her body, and she lay there motionless on the tile. Her two young children hovering over her, fear evident in their eyes. She sat up, grabbing her two young children into her arms, hugging them tighter than she ever had.
She had always dreamed of being a mother, and taking care of her own babies instead of working. She did not want to ever see his rotten temper, especially when her children would be born. Yet, eight months into my mother’s pregnancy with me, driving back from the doctor’s office, my father began driving awfully fast in traffic, and she asked him to please slow down. He became mad, and told her she could climb out of the car. Three months after moving in, two months after leaving her job, and two weeks after my due date, my mother went to her doctors appointment. The doctor sent my mother home, once again to wait for her baby to finally make it’s appearance into the world, late as can be. My parents decided to venture out to eat. My mother being hungry, and in pain, didn’t feel like cooking. She said she ate more than usual. My mother started having excruciating back pain, and discomfort. Late into the night they went to the hospital, where the next morning, my mother says she received the greatest gift of her life. The doctor placed me, her beautiful dark haired, baby girl, in her arms. They named me Elsie. To my mother, I was the first feeling of true love she had ever felt. My father worked for his father, my grandfather Wesley at Taylor, and sons. He started the business a few years earlier, so his sons could have an income when older. The business
It was late and the house was silent. Tom came home from work late a lot, so the silence was expected. By this time, Marie was in bed and his dinner, the evening newspaper, and the mail were waiting for him on the table. Tom closed the door and walked down the short hall to the kitchen. Everything was set on the table. He quickly looked through the mail and went over to the bin to throw an unwanted advertisement away. Tom noticed a crumpled piece of his wife’s stationary inside. He picked it up and opened it.
My friends has not arrived yet when I am in “Wow!”situation but after 10 minute I guess, my first beloved three guest arrive and they are my bestfriends. Three of them are wearing cute gowns which is really fashionable and a present in each of their hands. They shout happy birthday and start hugging me. Then my parents arrive in style and I know you (the reader) will be questioning why I don’t come with my parents. They just want to test me if I can mature enough to organize a party so they do not arrive with me together. After thirty minutes, the place is crowded with my beloved friends and elders who decided to sit outdoor because of the un-calmness of the room. Chatters laughters are all over the room and I kept on hearing “Happy birthday” everywhere when I pass my friends. There are cameras everywhere when some are on internet and when some are taking selfies. “This place is really awesome”I thought impressed while drinking my own soda at the corner of the room while watching the party in a full swing. The place is full of delicious fish smell because it’s the main food of the party. And thankfully, everyone love it. Finally the main session comes, the birthday cake. When My best friends announce it’s time to sing ‘Happy Birthday’, everyone make a circle which makes me to stand in the middle and sang “Happy Birthday to you…”. After the song is done I said shyly “Thank You” to everyone and separate the cake into small parts. And also we had a cream fight started by Pansy, which I hate so much. After guests finally leave home one by one and no one left at the place, I thought this is the best Birthday party
"Happy Birthday", my mom screamed out and scared me the morning of June 9. But it was surprising and nice of her since she wished me before anyone else. It was my eighteen birthday and it was my day. While looking out the big windows in my room, I thought to myself, I will do what satisfies me today, but wasn't quite sure what? I didn’t receive any calls from my friends, or other relatives. Nobody was home either besides my mom with whom I can’t make plans because she got her own work to do. It depressed me because it seemed like this was going to be one boring eighteen birthday.
