In the article "Ship Of Gold" by Gary Hanna talks about events that happened during the middle of 1857 and early 1980's. In the middle of 1857 there was a ship (Central America) in Cuba that was headed toward New York. But, a massive Hurricane was headed right toward the ship. In the article it says " The Central America had sailed into the path of a furious hurricane. For three days, enormous waves had pummeled the ship. Screaming winds had shattered its windows and shredded its sails.” (Hanna 18)The ship gave in after three days. A nearby vessel was able to save only 132 people which left 425 people to die. This ship was not not ordinary, it had twenty one tons of gold. The article states ” It was filled with treasure—21 tons of gold.” (Hanna
The extend of most American’s knowledge of early America is of Columbus’ discovery of America for Europe in 1492 and the landing of the Mayflower in Plymouth in 1620. This was true of A Voyage Long and Strange author, Tony Horwitz. Horwitz felt as if there were pieces missing in his picture of early America and set out on a journey that spanned from Canada to the Dominican Republic. The novel starts out with a prologue of Horwitz talking about his own reasons for wanting to learn more of early America and then is broken into three sections Discovery, Conquest, and Settlement. Each section discusses another period in early American history starting with first contact in Vinland and ending with the landing in Plymouth.
Rain of Gold, is a true story about the history of Mexican people, their culture, traditions and customs that were passed down from the Euro-Indian heritage of Mexico. Rain of Gold was written by Juan Villasenor in search for his ancestral roots. The people of this story are real and not fiction. The places that are discussed are true. And the incidents did actually happen to his family. There are several underlying themes that need addressing. Such as: the importance of family, the importance of religion and spiritualism, woman as center of home and family, respect--protection of woman's virtue; ideal of women as pure, power of the woman--the mother, being a man-man as protector of the family, pride of man to be a provider, importance of traditions, respect for life, work and education/learning, death as part of life, honor, dignity, and finally discrimination and prejudice. I will be using this book as a reference and as a guide throughout this review to discuss the themes that are stated above.
I personally found this book to be an excellent read, and while I haven’t read to many business management books. I can feel safe to say that I think this one does an excellent job in conveying key management principals for today’s workplace. It also appealed to me due to my fascination with the way in which our military operates. I believe he did a great job of staying clear of getting too detailed in either is leadership model and military jargon. I would recommend this book to anyone who feels intimidated by management books that read more like a textbook, who want to learn but also enjoy the reading too.

“Two roads diverged in a wood and I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.” At some point in life one is faced with a decision which will define the future, but only time will tell whether or not the choice was right or wrong. The Boat by Alistair MacLeod demonstrates that an individual should make their own decisions in life, be open to new experiences and changes, and that there is no way to obtain something, without sacrificing something else.

There are many intriguing and fascinating lessons and thoughts that can be extracted from Richard Adams’s Watership Down when inspected under a “magnifying glass.” From those many issues, the one that is the most influential to ourselves is the issue regarding anti-segregation, portrayed ingeniously by Richard Adams through Hazel within many different cases in the novel. Out of those many instances, this essay will discuss two of them, explain how they display the issue of anti-segregation, and compare them to a famous historical and political figure.

At least 255 sailors died, 44 on Lake Superior, 7 on Lake Michigan, 6 on Lake Erie and 178 on Lake Huron.

Not only this, but after the hurricanes many cruise lines sent out ships to help families who needed to leave the island, free of charge. Lavesh Dhanani, a worker for Royal Caribbean said, we actually helped build magen’s bay, our CEO and our emergency travel team, they actually went to St. Thomas and, they went to meet up with local officials, and they actually helped to rebuild magens bay, and San Juan, Puerto Rico we had the Adventure of the Seas and the Enchantment of the seas, which we basically chartered out to pick up tourists that were stuck in either St. Thomas or San Juan and we had the ships pick them up. The Adventure of the Seas canceled 2 sailings and the Enchantment canceled one, and we picked them up and brought them to Fort Lauderdale where we dropped them off, so any residents that were displaced and had nowhere to stay, they had no food, so we picked them up on our ships and took them to Fort Lauderdale where they were dropped off and basically put into FEMA or if they had family here they could be with their family

In 1890 America’s economy was going down hill, some thought the Klondike was the answer. Families were in a desperate need for money, but before I go any further you probably want to know what the Klondike is. The Klondike was a migration by almost 100,000 gold searches. The supplies that you need for the trip were endless, you need approximately 1000LBS. Men would take this harsh, and dangerous journey to try to strike rich. However the conditions of the weather is what makes this trip dangerous. There is a lot of ice, snow, and nothing. The temperatures can reach sixty degrees below zero. The main source of transportation is horses, and sled dogs which will eventually die. You have what you bring with you, and that's it. You are out for yourself,
