Given the circumstances in the story “The Adventure of the Speckled Band”, Sherlock Holmes is not guilty of Dr. Roylott`s passing away. In the story, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the author, characterized Sherlock Holmes as a hired investigator who uses his skills to help solve Helen`s terrorizing case, yet he was at no means there to kill Dr. Roylott. Foremost, Sherlock Holmes could not predict that Dr. Roylott could be bitten by the snake. Furthermore, Sherlock Holmes was hired to protect Helen Stoner. Finally, Sherlock Holmes was certain that Dr. Roylott killed Julia Stoner and wanted to murder Helen due to money. Essentially, Sherlock Holmes was not the cause of Dr. Roylott`s death, given the fact that he could not predict the snake biting Dr. Roylott.
During the passage, along with while Sherlock investigated, he could not forecast that Dr. Roylott would be bitten by the snake. First and foremost, Sherlock did not come into contact with the snake, until he heard Dr. Roylott`s death yell, then saw it around the snake`s neck. To proceed, even though Holmes concluded the death of Julia to be caused by Dr. Roylott with a deadly snake, he could not do anything about the snake coming back into contact with Dr. Roylott. Nevertheless, Holmes was in the house to discover the cause of Julia`s death, not to guess that Dr. Roylott would be bitten by this snake. Formerly,

Sherlock was not predicting Dr. Roylotts death, subsequently he was closing the case with Julia, not thinking about Dr. Roylott`s death coming in the future. Yet once again, Sherlock was in no state of predicting Dr. Roylott`s death, from which he did not know how Dr. Roylott handled the snake, but that it would kill him. Then again, Sherlock is not guilty for the murder of Dr. Roylott as he was there to guard Helen. In all regards to support Helen Stoner, Sherlock was appointed to defend her. Originally, Sherlock Holmes went to the Roylott manor in order to investigate all that had went wrong. While he was there he addressed the bell rope in Helen and Julia`s room, along with the bed clamped to the floor. Subsequently, Sherlock was defending Helen by staying in her room overnight to find out the cause of Julia`s death. Besides, after investigating the house, Sherlock had come to his conclusion that a snake went down the bell rope to kill Julia. Likewise, Sherlock Holmes came into the home to find out the cause of Julia`s death, but while doing that never came into contact with this snake to cause it to kill Dr. Roylott. The snake ended up wrapped around Dr. Roylott`s neck; in essence Dr. Roylott killed himself. Nevertheless, Sherlock Holmes went out of his way to help solve the case by immediately showing up at the Roylott household, but more importantly never made it apparent that he wanted anything negative to happen to him. Overall, Sherlock did not commit the crime, nonetheless he was sure Dr. Roylott murdered Julia with money being a factor involved. Following much investigation, Sherlock was optimistic that Dr. Roylott was the murderer of Julia Stoner in this case, as a result of various clues Sherlock discovered. While examining the Roylott home, Sherlock searched Dr. Roylotts bedroom; in doing so he came across a worn stool, and a milk saucer. After all he concluded that Dr. Roylott used a deadly animal to kill Julia, due to the bell rope in Julia`s room for which it would have climbed down. Then, Helen informed Sherlock that Dr. Roylott previously killed somebody back in India; this further developed Sherlock`s idea that Dr. Roylott murdered Julia since he murdered someone else as well. Additionally, Dr. Roylott is into exotic animals given the reason why he has a baboon and cheetah living on his property with him. This proves the reason for him using the poisonous snake to kill Julia. Moreover, Helen continues to tell Holmes that Julia was killed prior to her wedding. If she would have gotten married she would have gotten a sum of money, but Dr. Roylott did not want that to happen, so he killed Julia. After all, Dr. Roylott definitely killed Julia, since he was in his room when this happened. In the meanwhile he sent the snake throught the ventilator, then it went down the rope to kill Julia. After all, Sherlock is not the murderer of Dr. Roylott, since Dr. Roylott used the snake to kill Julia, it got wrapped around his neck causing his death. All in all, Sherlock is in no way responsible for Helen Stoner`s death.
In all regards, Sherlock was not able to foretell the snake biting Dr. Roylott. Coincidingly, Sherlock Holmes was brought along in order to help Helen Stoner with the frightening case, not have any part in the demise of Dr. Roylott. Moreover, Sherlock Holmes was more than positive Dr. Roylott murdered Julia by reason of money. Though, Sherlock Holmes did not know how Dr. Roylott passed away. In summation, Sherlock Holmes was not to be blamed for the death of Dr. Roylott, as to the coinciding points that sum up the
situation.
For a while he finished the stories, but with debts and great public support he created another collection of the Holmes stories, due to the fact they were in high demand. Conan Doyle sadly died in Crowborough, Sussex, England, on July 7, 1930. Holmes is an intellectual detective who although spends a lot of the time by his self still depend on a valiant partner to accompany him on his cases, in this case Dr Watson. Dr Watson, in the Sherlock Holmes stories, is portrayed as particularly as an average British person helping his friend in his cases. Because he is portrayed as this it helps us see ourselves in the story along with Holmes therefore, intriguing the reader to usually read more.
Sherlock Holmes was not accountable for the demise or killing of Dr. Grimsby Roylott. The story “The Adventure of the Speckled Band” was written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Dr. Roylott had intimidated Sherlock Holmes after his daughter, Helen Stoner, had gone to Holmes about a whistle she heard. Helen Stoner appointed Holmes and Watson to assist her from mysterious happenings. Sherlock Holmes could not have anticipated that Dr. Roylott was sitting in a chair in which the ventilator was right on top of the chair. Even though Dr. Roylott used to be a generous, polite man, he was now an ignoble and arrogant man.
...ts built up in Lord Capulet are good building blocks for someone who is going to cause the deaths of 3 people. So you could say other people were responsible for the deaths, and you may even be right, but of those suspects the one who could have very easily done something better is Capulet. He could have not thrown a temper tantrum and Juliet wouldn’t have felt the need to fake her own death and escape the inevitable matrimony of her and Paris. Capulet had several opportunities to turn this story around, and he just didn’t, and that’s what makes him responsible for the tragic deaths of Romeo, Juliet, and Paris. Although Capulet is irrational, and in my opinion just a dummy, he does offer a good moral of the story. Hatred is a wasted emotion, with no other intention than to ruin people’s lives. Patients is a virtue, and maturity is a choice.
It wasn’t just Holmes who suffered though, Patrick Prendergast was another man who appeared to psychopathic because of
1First, Capulet should be blamed the most for Romeo and Juliet’s death. 2 His first fault was to bear Romeo in his party. 3When Capulet was informed by Tybalt about the presence of Romeo (Montague) Capulet said, “A bears him like a portly gentlemen”. His ignorance towards Romeo’s presence cause the two youngster to fall in love which led to series of problems. His another mistake was to arrange Juliet’s marriage with Paris without her consent. When Paris came to ask to make Juliet his bride Capulet changed his opinion when he first asked and said, “I think she’ll be ruled-In all respect by me. Nay, more, I doubt it not”. Then he said to his wife that, “O’ Thursday, tell her, she shall be married to this noble earl.” This led to Juliet drinking the potion to pretend dead on the day of her marriage and Romeo’s servant Balthasar got the message of Juliet’s death before he got a letter from Friar Lawrence about her pretend death. This led to Juliet’s real death followed by Romeo’s death. Therefore, Capulet’s big heartedness and small heartedness caused the death of Romeo ...
Holmes was never arrested for the incident with his father-in-law. However, he was later arrested in “July 1894, Holmes was arrested for the first time. It was not for murder but for one of his schemes” (Taylor). Being arrested should have scared Holmes onto the straight and narrow path, it did not. It was in jail that Holmes met one of his accomplices, Marion Hedgepeth (Nash, Bloodletters 448).
How Does Arthur Conan Doyle Create Tension And Suspense In The Speckled Band The Speckled Band is just one of the murder mystery stories featuring the famous detective, Sherlock Holmes. Holmes was not any ordinary detective, he was a detective who was famous for solving murders. In this case Holmes is trying to solve the mystery of the 'Speckled Band'. Some examples of tension building techniques are dramatic events and in some instances the inclusion of red herrings. Bad weather and night time are also used as a means of building up atmosphere and tension.
...he met the detective, fell victim to Moriarty’s games. “Moriarty is playing with your mind too. Can’t you see what’s going on!” (Sherlock). During Holmes’ last days before his faked suicide, he pleads with John to see reason through Jim’s manipulations, as does Desdemona with Othello’s accusations. Even Sherlock’s oldest friend Detective Inspector Greg Lestrade was doubting Holmes’ credibility.
As soon as you start reading “The Hound of Baskerville”, the first impression when Dr. Mortimer arrives to unveil the mysterious curse of the Baskervilles Hound wrestles with questions of natural and supernatural occurrences. The doctor himself decides that the marauding hound in question is a supernatural beast, and all he wants to ask Sherlock Holmes is what to do with the next of kin. But from Holmes ' point of view, every set of clues points toward a logical, real- world solution. Considering the supernatural explanation, Holmes decides to consider all other options before falling back on that one. Sherlock Holmes personifies the intellectual 's faith in logic, and on examining facts to find the answers. From his point of wives this story more truthful than fantastic, but author’s mysterious hound, an ancient family curse, even the ominous Baskerville Hall all set up a Gothic- style mystery that, in the end, will fall victim to Holmes ' powerful logic.
Examine the role of Sherlock Holmes as a Detective in the Story Of The Speckled Band The creator of the very legendry stories of Sherlock Holmes was Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Sir Arthur. As a child he was sent to a harsh, strict and then applied to study medicine. After qualifying, he travelled as a ships doctor, however he had very little success.
Have you ever gone somewhere like an ice cream shop and not known what you wanted? Decisions are hard to make. Sometimes people get set as a scapegoat and the culprit gets away. Just like in this case the Countess loses her jewel and finds it inside of her black striped goose and doesn’t know who did it. After they find the felon, Mr. Holmes rules to let them go and bid them not to do it again. In my opinion, I think Sherlock Holmes positively made the right decision.
Conflict creates “rising action” leading the character towards the climax of the story. In the story it seemed that there was external conflict between Dr. Roylott, the stepfather and the two daughters. It appeared to be conflict of interest due to the inheritance of the money. He killed the first daughter and tried to kill the second daughter in order for him to receive all the money. The different conflict that was explored was man versus man, Sherlock Holmes versus Dr. Roylott. Dr. Roylott appears at Sherlocks Holmes’s home, frustrated because his stepdaughter went to Holmes for help; the quote used “I will do nothing of the kind. My stepdaughter has been here. I have traced her. What has she been saying to you?.” Roylott threatened Holmes to not interfere, but he does either way. Holmes going to Roylotts house made the story more interesting for the readers with regards the different finds that he saw. An internal conflict seems to arise with Helen and her stepfather. She loves her stepfather but is afraid that he might have something to do with her sister’s death. This causes Holmes to investigate the
Dr. Roylott was a very intelligent man, so why was he so stupid to not plan ahead. The death of Dr. Grimsby Roylott will not be one many will grieve. The tragic occurrence of Dr. Roylott's demise was not the fault of Sherlock Holmes. Both men were separated by walls, they could not see through them. How was Sherlock to know that Dr. Roylott was sitting right below the ventilator shaft?
Sherlock Holmes was, and still is, a consulting detective. He was brilliant, and had a knack for solving difficult cases. In the short story The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle, he introduces himself. “My name is Sherlock Holmes. It is my business to know what other people don't know.” (Doyle). In the original stories, however, Sherlock was not just a brilliant detective; he was also a musician and boxer. His companion, Dr. John Watson, was an army doctor who served in Afghanistan. The two meet in the novel A Study in Scarlet. They share a flat in London, 221B Baker Street, and solve multiple mysteries together. The public loved the stories for many reasons. First, the stories were shorter than many novels of the time period, and were also published ...
“The world is full of obvious things which nobody by any chance ever observes,” states Sherlock Holmes (Doyle, The Hound of the Baskervilles loc 1238). According to TV Tropes, mystery is a genre of fiction where the plot revolves a mysterious happening that acts as the driving question. With any given problem there is a solution; however, and the question is “how does one come about to that solution”? Extremely high intelligence level, keen observation, creative imagination and sensitivity to details are just some of the qualities that Holmes possesses. In the process of solving mysteries, there is always a borderline between mere guessing, a coincidence, and a scientific approach that Holmes calls deductive reasoning. In Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's 1902 novel, The Hound of the Baskervilles, Dr. Mortimer seeks advice from Holmes as he explains the curse that has been plaguing the Baskerville family. With the power of deduction, Holmes realizes that Mr. Stapleton is actually a Baskerville descendant and has been planning to get rid of the other members of the family to claim the family fortune. Conan Doyle tells the reader what their mind is capable of doing by incorporating Holmes through his novels as he uses observation, deduction and knowledge in solving his cases. One important key that makes him different from most people is that he sees everything that people often neglect to pay attention to. A remarkable proof which shows that Holmes holds an extraordinary analytical mind and is uniquely capable of solving a mystery through his great sensitivity to minute details and the ability to draw connections from it was shown as he observes and deduces information from the letter received by Sir Henry Baskerville the moment he arrived...
