Shawn Mendes Shawn Mendes is a singer-songwriter who became famous to millions of people around the world by posting videos of himself performing popular songs on the internet. He is an inspiring artist and motivates young performers to follow their dreams no matter how big. Shawn Peter Mendes was born on August 8, 1998 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. His mother, Karen, is English and his father, Manuel, is Portuguese. He also has a younger sister named Aaliyah. He grew up in Pickering, Ontario and went to school at Pine Ridge Secondary School. Mendes started posting his videos on the internet in 2013. By August of 2014, he was the third most followed musician on Vine. His dream was always to become a musician. “I was consistent with these six-second videos of me singing on YouTube, on Twitter, on Instagram," he explains. "[I was] posting pictures all the time. He is the youngest artist to have their debut song make it on Billboard Hot 100. The song was number 24 on the list for the week of July 12, 2014. In July, Mendes released his EP. The EP debuted at number five on Billboard 200 and sold 48,000 copies in the first week. On April 25, 2015 Mendes released his first full album “Handwritten”. The album debuted number one on Billboard and sold 106,000 copies in the first week. His new album “Illuminate” comes out on the September 23,
