You are swimming in the ocean off shore admiring the little colorful sea creatures, all of a sudden, you see a 10 foot shark swimming towards you. His sharp teeth are visible from distance, his big torso and muscles frighten you. What did you possibly do wrong to get the shark’s attention? How could you possibly get out from this situation without major harm. You know you could’ve prevented this, but do you know how? Here are some tips on preventing being attacked by a shark. Colorful outfits mislead sharks into thinking you are fish. Under no circumstances swim in the ocean when you are bleeding. Prevent wearing shiny objects, they can catch a shark’s attention in a second. Seagulls diving into the ocean? Get away from there. If you panic, do not splash, swim. Algae can be gross, but it is your best friend.
Colorful outfits mislead sharks into thinking there is fish around. This happens, because sharks are only able to see shadows in color. Fish are known for their colorful patterns and details. Prevent wearing any bright outfit, specially if it has some sort of pattern. Try wearing colors like; black, gray, or white. These colors may prevent being bait for sharks, because majority of sea creatures that have this color are dolphins and whales. Sharks have no interest in attacking dolphins or whales,

Under the ocean, everything the sun hits will glare, specially shiny objects. Objects that shine that shine directly to a shark’s eye will immediately call his attention. When sharks do not know how to identify something, they usually investigate what it is, if they don’t actually attempt to eat it. Before entering the ocean, remove any jewelry or shiny accessories. If for some reason you do not want to leave your belonging at the shore, keep them in a waterproof case container. This containers, are usually made out of plastic, and you can easily hang them from your neck of tie them on to
As they are at the top of the food chain, sharks play a very important role in the oceans in a way that an average fish does not. Sharks keep populations of other fish healthy and in proper proportion for their ecosystem. By preying on the old, sick or slower fish in a population, they prevent the spread of disease and prevent outbreaks that could be devastating. According to Ransom Myers from Shark savers, “sharks may be gone within the next decades if we continue to kill them, resulting in the loss of important foods that we depend on for survival, causing a marine ecosystem imbalance.” At the same time, I accept that shark nets could be useful, especially in shark infested areas that have been renowned as spots where many attacks have occurred, but I still believe, as you would, that scientists should spend more resources on working out why it is becoming more common for sharks to be entering shallower waters, looking for food – namely seals, who just happen to look like
Shark nets have been implemented in locations across the world in response to shark sightings and attacks. Nets are submerged beneath the surface of the water, roughly 200 metres from the shoreline. The meshing is designed to be large to capture sharks, leaving them to struggle before eventually drowning under the weight of their own body. The meshing allows small fish to pass through, however captures larger fish and marine species. Shark nets provide no discrimination between common, vulnerable and endangered species, resulting in a high mortality rate for a variety of marine wildlife.
Orca whales do not like to be taken from their family, held captive for many decades and put with other whales that they do not know. No other living organism on this planet would like to be put through the same thing. Orca whales are highly social animals, they are very intelligent, and are very emotional. If they are kept away from other whales, fed intermittently and received little attention from staff makes them get very emotional and can lead to death of people and the whales. Orca whales should not be held captive; they are beautiful creatures that are not great for people’s amusement and if they are treated poorly, they will act poorly.
Underwater shark nets make us feel safer at the beach, but are we? That’s the question. Are we safe? There are lots of possibilities that the shark, with sharp like knife teeth, may outsmart us. Because of shark attacks we use nets, called shark nets. However, that doesn’t mean nets used in the past prevented shark attacks. These nets don’t only trap sharks they trap other sea creatures.
This image is what a majority of people believe to be the shark. They believe it to be the bloodthirsty sea monster that appears in countless works of literature and films, but science says otherwise. The classic picture painted by the minds of sailors returning from years at sea come from imagination and sharks’ violent methods of hunting and mating. Sharks fear humans as much as humans fear sharks, and most sharks, particularly the “man-eating” great whites, only bite humans because they mistake surfers for seals. In earlier times, the ocean was a source of mystery and adventur...
Sharks have also been subjected to medical research, games and competitions, jewellery, souvenirs and cosmetics. We need to take into consideration that sharks play a vital role in the natural world that we live in. it is imperative that we look after these majestic creatures and ensure they remain protected. We need to be aware of the dangers of sharks, swim in protected areas where there are shark nets, and do not swim after dark in the sea (especially not alone) as the sea is the sharks home. Humans should also be wearing wet suits as protection in the ocean. The sea is where they live, they swim freely and they eat – they do not particularly target humans but rather prey on food that is available to them in their habitat.
Australian beaches are some of the best in the world and WA beaches are some of the best in Australia. But this may soon no longer be a view held by everyone if the WA government continues to support and allow the shark culling off Perth's major beaches. Hi I'm Maya Koentgen, a marine biologist, ecologist and fellow beach user, and I'm here to tell you why shark culling needs to stop. At the moment hundreds of innocent sharks are being caught and killed and why? Because they are simply swimming in their own homes that us humans have invaded.
In 2015 only 59 shark attacks have occurred around the world compared to the millions of sharks killed by humans every year. Due to these accidental shark attacks people tend to think that sharks, especially Great Whites are evil creatures with malice intentions when attacks do occur; but, on the contrary that is wrong. Sharks are not the only beautiful and unique creatures in the ocean, they also play a vital role in our ecosystem; however, due to human interference they might not be around much longer, through awareness sharks can be protected from endangerment.
Thesis: Sharks should be conserved because they are an important part of the ocean, attacks are often incidental, and human behavior influences the behavior of sharks.
Sharon Guynup says, "Most sharks are harmless,” (“What Do You Know About Sharks?” 872). Over 300 species of sharks are harmless to humans, and the ones that are harmful do not attack often. Peter Benchley states, "Only four [sharks] attack human beings with any frequency," (“Great White Sharks” 890). When people swim, they should not be afraid of being attacked by a shark, especially if the area is not known for shark attacks.
Hundreds of people, who get in the ocean every year, are almost none that encounter sharks. Even if you're lucky enough to see a shark big enough to bite you, you're much likely to die from a heart attack than getting bit by one. Shark attacks are mistakes and the idea of a shark off every beach waiting for people to come in the water is completely untrue. I will inform you on the background knowledge of sharks and the reasons why humans should not be afraid only aware.
While, these horrific fish are bloodcurdling there is ways to keep them away, such as a magnet. “Magnets made from iron, boron, and neodymium is a promising repellent being developed by SharkDefence” stated in Stopping Sharks by Blasting Their Senses. Magnets effect the shark’s Ampullae of Lorenzini. Another way, is specified
Sharkwater is a documentary. Just like many documentaries it puts forth a strong message by using relevant facts and captivating footage. Sharkwater explores the nature of sharks, how misconception and ill treatment is driving them to the edge of extinction, and how some people are taking a step towards protecting them. The creator of this document did an excellent job went it came to using primary sources and proper facts. In some places of the world shark finning is a full-blown industry that is being protected by the government and was killing thousands of sharks everyday just for the sake of money. In that point of the film you could say a bias opinion was presented. But when the streets of Puerto Rico began to flood with angry protesters
b)Some Marine parks treat these dolphins with anti-depressant, Prozac or tranquilizer, which causes them to become even more stressed.
Introduction One particularly interesting sea creature is the whale shark, formally known as Rhincondon typus; it was first discovered in 1828 by Andrew Smith (Rowat 2012). This large fish is found globally in warm tropical oceans and prefers to stay within 200 meters of the ocean’s surface in waters ranging from 4.2 to 28.7 degrees Celsius (Stevens 2006). This creature can be found all across the globe in warm tropical seas. Aggregations of whale sharks have been seen off the coast of Australia at times, although it is primarily a creature of solitude. Whale sharks are filter feeders that consume plankton as well as small fish and are harmless to humans.
