Shanna Kay is someone who motivates us and challenges us as individuals personally and professionally.
She goes above and beyond her normal roles in order to give us advice when need be. Her dedication is not limited to Spartan Village she also has created a big impact on the UNCG community, she is always encouraging and can be described as a caring person with a lot of energy. Even with her busy schedule she always finds time for each and everyone one of the council members. Shanna Kay has looked out for our best interest since day one and has guided us to make the decisions that will benefit us. She is someone who has positively influenced us and brought out the leadership skills within us and our group closer together. As Shanna-Kay’s supervisor, I have seen her work with a talented group of students in way that inspires and encourages, but also challenges them to think about how they can be their best and serve the community in the most positive way. Throughout the year, she sought advice on how to best meet the needs of these students, how to empower them, and generally how to support them in their attempt to be present and a part of a community that always needs the presence of a hall council wanting to grow the
community. Shanna-Kay helped the hall council thrive in an environment in which programs do not always produce large numbers. However, this year, hall council consistently saw numbers between 30 and 60, sometimes even beyond which is a HUGE success in Spartan Village. She helped hold members accountable to their role and in turn these members then held their peers accountable without the assistance of Shanna-Kay. It was true leadership and role-modeling at it’s finest which is what we aim for when we set out to advise a group. Each of her members are proud of who she is as their advisor, have wonderful words to say about her, and appreciate the work she has done in their life this year.

The poem “Woodchucks” by Maxine Kumin, is about the narrator’s attempt to eradicate woodchucks from a garden. The figurative message of the poem is how a person can change from good to evil effortlessly. The metaphor of the Holocaust is intertwined in the poem and helps enhance the figurative message. The uniform format and the implication of Kumin’s word choices creates a framework that allows the reader to draw out deeper meanings that the literary devices create. Maxine Kumin’s use of an undeviating format, word choice, and allusion to the Holocaust reinforces the purpose of her poem.
Next year, as I embark my first year at university, I hope to fully integrate myself into the community by getting involved in the Students' Union, joining the cheer team, volunteering where I can and making many new friends along the way. At university, I hope to maintain a high grade point average, granted that my education is extremely important to me and that I am extremely ambitious about achieving my goals. Therefore, I will commit lots of my time to my studies in hopes of being a successful student. Nevertheless, I am still looking forward to being a part of the community by devoting my extra time to helping those around me. In classes, I intend on being an active learner, a respectful student, and a helpful classmate; someone who is always willing to lend a hand to others. Through engaging in my community, I hope to bring joy to others around me by spending my time supporting local events, volunteering for fundraisers, and helping plan and organize campus activities.

Inside every human being is the desire to be evil. In society, rules and order exist for the purpose of keeping human civilization from revealing our inherently immoral sides. In William Golding’s novel, Lord of the Flies, it is witnessed that when order is absent from society, people choose to act immorally. In fact, many of the boys fall into the hands of evil behaviour and are conquered by savagery. Whereas only three boys in the novel named Piggy, Simon and Ralph, stay true to themselves amongst the chaos of their rule-free society. As a result, the three boys are forced to endure isolation and abuse and are dehumanized by the other boys.

Leading through enthusiasm has been particularly effective in trying to get the freshman excited about things in which they are uninterested. Malinda Ann Judson Richards, also known as Linda Richards was a strong innovated nurse who helped in the growth of nursing as a profession. During the 1800s nurses did not experience training as in-depth as it is today, at the time it was considered informal nursing. Even with the limited education Linda was able to take away from her experiences and make it better for future nurses to come. Due to her past experiences and the little resources they had at the time she was still able to make a difference in the nursing profession this is why I chose her as my nursing leader.
When going into high school many students can have a feeling of uncertainty. They may worry about upperclassmen, grades, and growing up. As these things were definitely on my mind when I became a freshman, so was another topic.. During middle school I had always been in student council, but it was never as serious as Hartford’s High School Student Council. In high school student council, the members were allowed more freedoms such as planning pep rallies, handling student funds, and working most school events. Although, as the responsibilities of student council doubled so did the process to be a part of the organization. Even with some odds against me and many steps, I decided to run for student council president.
