Shakespeare's Techniques in Much Ado About Nothing
I am going to describe the techniques used by Shakespeare in 'Much Ado
About Nothing'. I am focusing on language, themes, characters, plots
and sub plots as well as the play as a whole. I will also be focusing
on how the modern day as well as the Elizabethan audience would
respond to this play write.
Shakespeare is known as one of the worlds best play writers, he has
written tragedies, histories, sonnets and comedies. Writing comedies
was by far his best talent of all. He used many techniques in writing
his comedies, which can be seen in many of his other plays. The basic
structure of this play is that love creates conflict in society. In
this play there are occasions of delight and distress as well as
sarcasm and seriousness. The play is also about contrasts between
people.
Shakespeare started Much Ado About Nothing in the middle of a
conversation, which throws us right into the story, and we pick up
what is going on as we read on.
Leonato: I learn in this letter that Don Pedro of Arragon comes this
night to Messina.'
Messenger: 'He is very near by this, he was not three leagues off when
I left him.'
Leonato: 'How many gentlemen have you lost in this action.'
Messenger; 'Few of any sort, but non of name.'
The play begins with the happy return of Don Pedro and his friends
from war; they are to be entertained at Leonato's house. As the play
write goes on one of Don Pedro's closest friends, Claudio, falls in
love with Leonarto's daughter, Hero, and they are to be wed. But first
Don Pedro has to tell Hero how Claudio feels her about her.

Shakespeare's writing is at many a time contradicting or expressed in
a way we cannot understand. But those who have an eye for
Shakespeare's play who thrive on the plentiness of this play. It has
it all, the plots, the happiness, love, hate and confusion. This
particular play was very interesting; I was very intertrested in it
and found it difficult and challenging to do this course work. You
cannot compare Shakespeare's plays but you can note the style he
writes in. Most his plays are written in the same style, but not all.
Mid Nights Summer Dream and Romeo and Juliet and both written in the
same style, with comedy and drama involved.

Transformations are altering certain thematic concerns of the original text, yet still retaining much of the storyline. The process of transformation requires some conscious decisions which shape and re-shape the meaning, and must be justified in order to execute them. . “Language is frequently used to stir up & manipulate emotions.” - Mary Hamer. The words that people say can appear brutal or detrimental. These violent words take up many forms such as lying, insulting, etc. Along with its’ comedic formula, William Shakespeare's, Much Ado About Nothing is enhanced with humorous mockery and intertwined dialogues. In the play, the soldiers have just returned from a successful war. Love is traveling through the village; however the “language of war” appears rooted in the language. Numerous times do the characters joke around in cruel dialects. The mockery, however, is not considered to be as harsh due to the presence of comedy within the play. William Shakespeare’s intricate use of language in his play, Much Ado About Nothing, allows immense aggressive language to thrive in the characters yet is able to use this to alleviate the violence.
The Tragedy of Othello by William Shakespeare is a great work by a great author. Shakespeare was correct in titling it The Tragedy of Othello because Othello lost so much. In the literary sense, a tragedy is the downfall of a character through that character's own flaws. The way most people see a tragedy is a story where there is much suffering and loss, and a not so happy ending. No matter way one looks at it, literary or public sense, this was a correct title. The main character, Othello, brought his own downfall upon him through his flaws, caused the suffering of many people, and he himself loss very much. All of these factors pile up to equal a big tragedy.

William Shakespeare said: “Women may fall when there's no strength in men” (Romeo and Juliet). Throughout history gender role have been a big, whether someone is a feminist or someone believes there is no equality between males and females; everyone has different opinions when it comes to the matter of gender roles. The same thing can be said about William Shakespeare who was a feminist (Shakespeare of Stratford). This ideology can be seen in his play Much Ado about Nothing. In this comedy Shakespeare focuses on two pairs of lovers named Claudio and Hero who are set to be married in a week but before their marriage day, they plan to conspire with Don Pedro, the prince of Aragon to trick their friends Beatrice and Benedick to admit their love for each other. Don John, the brother of Don Pedro, meanwhile plots to prevent marriage of Claudio and Hero by accusing Hero of being unfaithful. Don John initially succeeds in his plan as Hero is accused and ashamed at the marriage ceremony, but at the end Claudio and Hero are united and marry each other. Also, Beatrice and Benedick finally declare their love for each and dance at the end of the play. Shakespeare uses a lot of sources for this comedy and one of them is “Orlando Furioso” written in 1591, which gave Shakespeare the idea of Hero and Claudio’s marriage and Don John’s plot to prevent it. Another source Shakespeare used to write the play is the courtier written in 1588, which gave him the idea of the romance between Beatrice and Benedick. And also “La Prima de la Novelle” written in 1554 by Matteo Bandello gave Shakespeare the idea of putting the setting in Messina, Italy (Shakespeare in quarto). Because Shakespeare was a feminist, some of the women appear as supporting and central...
Beatrice is, without a doubt, one of the strongest female characters that Shakespeare ever came up with in his time of writing. Shakespeare shows, through Beatrice, how every woman should act in an era where only the men were even able to have control. In this era, or the renaissance time, no woman had free will; they were always told what they could and could not do, as well as, who they were to marry. In the play “Much Ado About Nothing” Beatrice has many qualities but the ones that stand out the most in the play are: her independence, her feistiness, and of course her openness to defy male subjection.

The prince’s speech in Romeo and Juliet was given after a fight broke out in the market between the rich families by the name of Montague’s and Capulet’s. The Prince said during his speech “Your lives shall forfeit the peace in my city” Is a bit of foreshadowing and how someone might have to pay their life for taking away the peace of his city. Later on in the story Capulet gets killed by Romeo, therefore he will have to pay his life because he once again disturbed the streets of Verona. Romeo was lucky enough to have kept his life, but he is banned from Verona for the rest of his life. “Three civil brawls bred of an airy word,” Meant that this isn’t the first time that the two families have fought. “Bred of an airy word” the two sides had a great battle just because of a few words. Shakespeare’s also like to use Iambic pentameter to show that speakers are of a higher class. It means that there does not have to be a rhyme scheme. Shakespeare does play with the word he uses so every line has the same amount of syllables. There are also different stresses on each word to kind of give ...
