Hamlet – the Ambiguity
The extent of the ambiguity within William Shakespeare’s drama Hamlet deserves consideration. Literary critics disagree in their assessments of how prevalent the ambiguity is in the work.
Lawrence Danson in the essay “Tragic Alphabet” discusses the equivocation and ambiguity within the play:
Equivocation – the conflict between the reality Hamlet perceives and the language used to describe that reality – has made all expression a matter of mere seeming, and Hamlet knows not seems. His rejection of the Claudian language extends to a rejection of all the symbolic systems that can denote a man. Thus, even his own punning (both verbal and silent) is inadequate: Hamlet chooses “nothing” since he cannot have “all”:
‘Tis not alone my inky cloak, good mother,
Nor customary suits of silent black,
Nor windy suspiration of forc’d breath,
No, nor the fruitful river in the eye,
Nor the dejected haviour in the visage,
Together with all forms, moods, shapes of grief,
That can denote me truly. These, indeed, seem;
For they are actions that a man might play;
But I have that within which passes show –
These but the trappings and the suits of woe. (I.ii.77)
In an ambiguous world, where all is but seeming, and hence misinterpretation, no symbol is successful. (70)
D.G. James says in “The New Doubt” that the Bard has the ambiguous habit of charging a word with several meanings at once:

Born in Brazil, Ind., on Feb. 14, 1913, Jimmy grew up fast when his coal miner father died from lung disease in 1920. His mother took in laundry to keep the family together and the children also helped with after school jobs. Graff insists that students should target their own passions and turn them into something academic and intellectual, as they get them hooked in the academic proceeding. Specifically, when students study about an area that is interesting to them, it is likely easier for them to perceive the given information and provide the arguments based on their own perspective about the topic reasonably and comprehensively. While much of the society believes the censorship is what provides for a successful society, Montag is one of a few that believe the opposite. This theme is expressed literally in that way, but there is deeper meaning to Bradbury’s discussion of government involvement in censorship. Fahrenheit 451 was first written in 1951, a time when television was becoming a viral piece of mass communication. As a writer, Bradbury had to make a choice that in his eyes, allowed readers to be captivated by a literal story but be able to read between the lines as if reading through eyes that aren’t their own (Foster 226). Bradbury chose to use the main and dynamic character to be the one who is realizing the true nature of what censorship is doing to the society to open the eyes of Americans. Trials have been done on children with autism, cancer patients, and those with substance use disorders. In music therapy trials done on various cancer patients, significant positive affects have occured. Data collected from a study at Wake Forest Hospital in Winston-Salem, North Carolina showed significant improvements. The patients was diagnosed with Leukemia. The music therapy type was PME and the patient showed improvements in relaxation and heart rate normality (Boehm). Shakespeare’s Hamlet is arguably one of the best plays known to English literature. It presents the protagonist, Hamlet, and his increasingly complex path through self discovery. His character is of an abnormally complex nature, the likes of which not often found in plays, and many different theses have been put forward about Hamlet's dynamic disposition. One such thesis is that Hamlet is a young man with an identity crisis living in a world of conflicting values.
