Men kill to fulfill a sexual compulsion or fantasy. Women don’t. The average serial killer is a white male in his late 20s that is scarred from a history of family abuse, who lacks empathy and is driven to kill by the need to inflict pain in order to receive sexual pleasure; this making him a sexual sadist. The climatic sensation that they receive by killing is something they could never feel while being intimate with another individual. Unlike male serial killers who to kill for the sexual pleasure, women kill because they are emotional beings. Many sources provide the mental analysis of various female serial killers and what it is that prompts them to kill.

Men are sexual sadists because at a very young, while they are undergoing puberty, their hormones began to run wild and they begin to fantasize. These men have intense fantasies and/or perform acts because the desires complete sexual, physical, emotional or psychological domination over another person. This need to feel empowered is a common male trait.
A 2008 article by the Journal of Criminology and Criminal Justice Research & Education states “throughout history, female murderers have been considered a rare and unique breed of criminal.” (1) The article goes on to conclude how it is nearly impossible for women to be sexual sadists. Those who argue this attempt to use the case of Karla Holmolka and her husband who was also her partner in serial murder, Paul Bernardo, to support their claim. However, when they met, Paul was already a pedophile and a serial rapist who was raping young women and teenage girls all over his Canadian city but when he met Karla, they became lethal.
