The controversial issue that I have chosen is sex selective abortion. Sex selective abortion occurs when a pregnancy is terminated because the sex of the fetus is undesired. This differs from regular abortion in the sense that the pregnancy is ended solely based on the gender of the baby, not just because the parent will be unable to take care of it. Sex selective abortion occurs worldwide, but it’s not broadcasted as much in the United States as it is in other countries. This particular topic causes much controversy since some people believe that this act should be banned while others believe that banning it would endanger reproductive rights.

countries, excluding the United States. In the United States, there is no federal or state law on sex selection, however voluntary professional rules and strategies do exist. Elsewhere of the United States, in territories or civilizations where abortion is more reachable and where sons are preferred over daughters is a solid custom, there is a stronger indication of the influence on the gender percentage in births and a more vigorous opposition to sex selection from feminist activities and other progressives. An international war on girls, which is widespread in sections of the growing world, may have come to Britain, according to findings that say some immigrant families are using selective killings to decide the gender of their children. Communities, such as Afghan, Pakistani, and Bangladeshi, in Britain have been accused of terminating female fetuses. Data suggests that the amount of children born second and third within these groups is statistically irregular, preferring the birth of boys. According to The Daily Beast (2014), “the study claims that the practice is so common that the natural 50-50 gender balance has been upended in some immigration communities” (p. 1). In countries such as India and Pakistan, people terminating female fetuses in order to assure the birth of a boy has been a known topic for decades. Likewise, in China, the one-child policy has helped to create the highest gender imbalance in the world. As stated above, sex selective abortion is an issue that receives much controversy, simply because everyone has their own beliefs and opinions about things and the controversy, or disagreement, comes into the picture when one person’s beliefs does not match another person’s beliefs. One reason as to why some believe that sex selective abortion should be allowed is because they believe that it is a right. Some people believe that it’s a woman’s right to decide whether or not to have an abortion, no matter the reason and that banning sex selective abortion would imperil on a woman’s reproductive rights. With that being said, there are many reproductive rights and liberal groups in the United States that are troubled by the discrimination that triggers sex selection, but have been reluctant to say anything publicly about challenging sex selection because of worries about reproductive independence and access to abortion. Even though there are some people who feel that sex selective abortion should be allowed, there are some who believe differently. In the year 2006, a poll that was taken found that eighty-six percent of Americans favored a ban on sex selective abortion. At the United Nations’ yearly conference of the Commission on the Status of Women, 51st session, the United States delegation led a resolution requesting countries to remove sex selective abortion. The commission advised governments of all nations to take essential actions to stop prenatal sex selection. Also, a strong disapproval of the practice was voiced by congress when three hundred and sixty-two members of congress approved a resolution in 2006, slamming the communist government of China for its one-child policy which indorses sex selective abortion. Some believe that sex selective abortion can lead to gender discrimination. The use of sex selection seems inevitably related to gendered expectations about what to have or be. Data in the United States proposes that in Asian-American societies, son preference and the use of sex selection has led to more males being born than females, particularly when it comes to second and third children. Among international and worldwide women activists, the main worry is that in many countries most sex selection is done for son preference. Selecting gender for a reason like son preference is a frank reminder that gender discrimination still structures the experience of life for millions of women and girls. Pressure and aggression is also a part of the concern. In some countries, women who do not have sons may be forced into using sex selection or exposed to domestic violence and other forms of unfairness for not having a son. However, banning sex selective abortions could place a major problem on women, which could then boost underground procedures. There are many issues around the world that receive much controversy and sex selective abortion is one of them.
The controversy comes from the simple fact that everyone has different believes and opinions on things and when one person’s belief doesn’t match another person’s, issues start to arise. Sex selective abortion is an issue that occurs worldwide. Some countries have chosen to ban this particular act while others have not made any laws about it with the fear of imperiling on a woman’s reproductive rights, but just because a country has banned this act doesn’t mean that it doesn’t happen. There have been many cases where women have had underground abortions because of the sex of the fetus. I personally believe that terminating a pregnancy just because one is not satisfied the gender of the fetus is wrong. No person can determine the gender of the child that they wish to have nor should they have the right to. I feel that every child that is created is created for a reason and deserves a chance to live. I also think, even though it has already been proven, that if people are able to decide on what gender they have and constantly do it, there will be an inevitable imbalance in the sex ratio of males to

... There has been much debate not only on freedom of speech and where to draw the line, but also whether or not abortions should be allowed. Abortions cause a social and economic concern, and there is a significant value based on the decision.
Abortion is the ending of a pregnancy before birth; it causes the termination of the embryo or fetus inside the women. There are two different types of abortion, a spontaneous abortion, which is also known as a miscarriage, and an induced abortion, where the embryo or fetus is purposely removed from the women’s body. The topic of induced abortion has been widely debated for hundreds of years. The issue of abortion was argued way back in the time of the ancient Hebrews. In the United States it became illegal around the mid 1800’s and not until the 1960’s was the argument for the right to abort brought back to the table. In 1973, the Supreme Court case “Roe vs. Wade” made abortion legal. The case stated that abortion was legal in the first trimester (three months) of pregnancy (O’Brien par. 17). Since that day over 30 years ago, there have been many cases in which abortion has been disputed. Congress has passed many laws restricting abortion rights, including in cases such as Webster vs. Reproductive Health Services and Stenberg v. Carhart (O’Brien par. 18). There are many other cases like these and each time is seems more likely that a woman’s right to choose could be overturned (“Reproductive Rights” 26). There are many different ranges of beliefs about the morality of abortion, whether or not one should have an abortion, and under what conditions the termination of pregnancy is acceptable. Many argue at what point in the process of pregnancy a human person comes into existence. People disagree about whether anything from an ovum to a fetus is a form of human life. No person knows this information, but it is debated among the two major sides on this issue. The first side are those that believe abortion should be forb...
The topic I chose to write about is “The Abortion Controversy” because it is a complex issue. It is a debate between people who see abortion as a moral issue (pro-life) and those who value a woman’s right to choose what to do with her own body (pro-choice). The debate between these two groups has been going on for decades.
Whether or not a woman has a right to do whatever she wants with her body is another issue of abortion. The woman’s right to reproductive right...
The words of an unborn baby are ones that almost no one ever thinks of, or hears. One of this country's most controversial topics is abortion. However, if one sees the constitutional infringement to women by the restriction of abortion; the torment to the unwanted child; and the anguish society has to sustain, then this topic would not be so debatable. Too many people do not see the effect that abortions cause. It is a very dangerous offence that affects the mother, father, the community, and most importantly, the fetus, and that is why abortion should be illegal in Canada. First, abortion is against God’s law in many Holy books such as the Bible and the Quran. Secondly, abortion does not only affect the individual, but the community as a whole, and the rights of those people are infringed on. However, abortion does nothing in the cases of rape, or women’s rights, which is the constant argument people in favour of abortion argue. And lastly, abortion should be seen for what it is, murder.
It is saddening to see humans of the female gender, who find themselves in a situation that requires introducing a new life into the world; to abort such a precious gift. Many may wonder how these poor, innocent, unborn children are then discarded after the abortion procedure. One cannot fathom the reason of these gruesome murders that happens within these medical facilities. Babies are disposed in the red waste bins of these facilities, and later incinerated. Some may either be flushed down garbage disposals or even be sold off for research purposes. The issue of abortion is not just a social one, but also a human rights issue among the unborn children. I believe if the human rights of these children has been violated, then all other rights of humans are certainly meaningless.
The main problem in the world is inevitable abortion. Because it is about morality; which people tend pay more attention. Nowadays, Abortion is a controversial problem as people think of appropriateness. However, Abortion is necessary in many cases. Three main reasons why abortion should be banned are condition that women are not pregnancy, health problem in mother, and social problem.
Among the Nations leading controversy’s, the bilateral issue of abortion seems to be a popular yet, contentious debate. For several decades, abortion has been a never ending conflict that has caused a division among society. This bitter political brawling has created a pointless stalemate that has left the abortion issue unresolved. What is right and what is wrong? Should a woman be allowed to have an abortion and deprive a child from life or should she be forced to forfeit her right to make her own decisions? Society is caught in the middle of this controversial topic because a portion of individuals believe that it should be a woman’s choice whether she has an abortion while others consider it to be murder.
Abortion is a cruel action to perform and has other options. Individuals who are pro-life consider the fact that even as a young fetus, it is a human being. Abortion is a very controversial topic. There are many different aspects to consider before receiving an abortion: cultural opinions, psychological effects on the woman, and the termination of an already developing fetus. Abortion not only takes away individual tissue formation, it has the potential to take away a future friend, sibling or spouse.
Selective abortion is permitted when a particular fetus is perceived as having undesirable characteristics. These include cases of sex-selective abortion where the unborn child is a girl, and the parents, for cultural or other reasons, want a boy or the fetus does not suit the parents in some other way. (Selective abortion, 2009) But generally, the reason for selective a...
All things considered, abortion will always be a controversial issue in which there will always be a debate on; however, it is crucial for women to have other options rather than to only be able to have children that they cannot afford, or to allow more children to be placed in an adoption system that can essentially prevent them from having a full and happy life. It is atrocious to keep forcing people to endure unwanted pregnancies that may cause them to turn to unsafe abortion methods if their reproductive rights are abolished.
A mother kills her unborn child because it is unwanted, but she's not charged for murder. Is it right? There is about 46 million abortions per year worldwide, and approximately 115,000 per day, but why? Is it because rape or incest, health problems with either the mother or the child, or just because the baby's unwanted or inconvenient at the time? (The Alan Guttmacher Institute.) Abortion should be banned because too many babies are being killed from abortion, if you don't want a child you could always put it up for adoption, and most mothers don't understand the consequences that occur from abortion.
Through every choice in life, there is a decision that must follow. Abortion is a woman’s individual choice; therefore, must be a legal part in todays society. Individual rights have an outstanding role in the controversial topic, on whether abortion should become legal in the United States . The individual rights for abortion show rights of life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. As well, women should be able to have the choice to choose to have an abortion for several important reasons. The right to make these decisions should lie in the hands of the “mother” to make decisions concerning their own to make decisions concerning their own bodies. In addition, women should be given the choice to have an abortion if they are too young and unable to take care their child financially or emotionally. Additionally, the right to have an abortion is if the pregnancy negatively affects the woman's or the baby's health. Without abortions as a choice for the “mother” to resort to while she is going through hardship on deciding whether to keep the baby or not, the endless possibilities could negatively influence the mother to put her and the baby in a dangerous positions.
Is abortion right or wrong? I believe that abortion is neither totally right nor wrong. I do believe that teenagers should be able to have abortions without parent’s permission but, the parents should be informed because it’s a medical procedure. Teenagers should be able to have abortions because there only children themselves, they haven’t even grown up so how would they be able to take care of a child? Not only will it be difficult to care for a child, but their choices will be limited when the baby is born. Teens 16 to 19 were three and one-half times more likely than the general population to be victims of rape, attempted rape or sexually assaulted which leads to my third reason why teenagers should be able to have abortions. Teenagers should absolutely be able to have an abortion if they are raped it’s un-fair to force a victim to have her attackers child.
Abortion has been accepted by the United States of America ever since the monumental Roe vs. Wade case in the early 1970’s, but is still a very controversial issue. Many people are for and against abortions. Some people say that the child inside its mother’s womb deserves the opportunity to live, while others believe that a mother has the right to choose whether or not her fetus can live or die. Other advocates for abortion claim that abortion helps keep the threat of overpopulation down. They also say that in many extreme cases, it is in the best interest of the mother and the child that the fetus be aborted. Abortion helps keep the crime rate low, so it should remain legal, they also say.
