Dogs can carry out multiple tasks which prove they are a large asset in fields in which man can possess flaw and error that can be unforgiving and not to mention deadly. For decades dogs have been aiding in the works of keeping crime low, prevent terrorism, detecting explosives and patrolling for drugs and narcotics that can be dangerous to others and to please humans more than any other animal. Dogs can contribute greatly in the health and safety of our nation.
First, dogs start their training by being introduced to the scent of an explosive (McKenna 2). The dogs are trained to identify at least a dozen kinds of explosives (Blackwell 2) which in turn, help the dogs identify and detect a variety of explosives. Later, the training progressively gets harder as the dogs must find an explosive, even with a multitude of scents, because terrorists have tried to mask up explosives with a variety of scents such as peanuts, cookies, perfumes, and even dirty diapers. Although this rarely fools a dog due to the extensive training, terrorists still experiment with bomb concealment using scents (McKenna 2).

Service dogs have a list of uses but are not limited to the examples given.
Dogs are used to keep crime low, reports of a subway which have had at least 20 muggings in the timeframe of a couple of months, later dogs were emplaced down in the dangerous subway and the muggings ceased quickly (Bilger 2). Dogs also patrol crowded places to sniff unattended luggage, vehicles, and planes, for illegal or suspicious or dangerous contents, such as explosives or drugs (Dogs on Duty 1). Dogs also are used to sniff out a dozen kinds of explosives that machinery can consequently miss, providing less risk to passengers, troops, etc. (Blackwell
2). Dogs are helpful in multiple ways, even if the task is simple or like an extreme task such as saving an entire squad of human soldiers. One way dogs can help in fields such as war zones is they can deliver many items crucial to the survival of our troops such as food, supplies, messages or detect explosives dangerous to a squad and the dog. They can even locate and comfort wounded soldiers (White 2). Service dogs help to reduce crime in an area, like dangerous areas (Bilger 2). Dogs help prevent terrorism, which affects all who fall victim, the dogs will sniff airports, cars, planes, packages for bombs to help save the lives of many people.(McKenna 1) Dogs can save the lives of those who are in the process of being victimized by terrorism, for instance, an anonymous caller revealed that there was a bomb planted on an airplane set to explode (this is a passenger plane, full of people!) a service dog trained to detect explosives was sent to locate the bomb for removal, the dog successfully fulfilled her job, with 12 minutes to spare. If not for the dog’s impressive success to deny a terrorist satisfaction in putting a plane in a position of impending doom, a whole passenger plane full of passengers would be dead and have left their families to mourn (McKenna 1). Dogs are effective in multiple fields of duty (beyond man), whether that be finding a bomb in a large crowd. One way service dogs are effective is they are able to locate bombs or drugs in large and populated areas and crowds (preventing smuggling and distribution in the process) (Dogs on Duty 1). Dogs have delivered supplies, food and detect bombs for our troops since WWI (White 2). dogs are able to find drugs or explosives in large crowds without struggle. “Dogs have no problem finding the needle in the haystack” (Bilger 2) dogs have reduced crime to lowest in some places. For example, dogs have reduced the rate of thefts from twenty almost a month down to zero almost immediately after establishment (Bilger 2). Another example of effectiveness of dogs is they are able to multitask, hunting for drugs and chasing criminals (Bilger 3). Dogs are used for multiple reasons but are not limited to the examples given below. Dogs are mainly used to reduce crime rate, because of their intimidating demeanor (intimidating to even the most evil and hardened criminals) causing some of the most dangerous areas to be safe enough to even walk outside. Like the subway reformation, where muggings were surprisingly high and more than common. (Bilger 3) Dogs are also used to prevent terrorism. For example, the bombing of airplanes has dropped because dogs are able to detect a dozen types of explosives before they reach the plane, foiling terrorists’ plans of destruction and mayhem, many of which terrorists prefer to use (Blackwell 2). Dogs have helped for decades in very dangerous situations. Many of which sacrificed themselves for our safety. Dogs detect explosives, drugs and narcotics, reduce crime rate as some of the many tasks dogs carry out better than man because error and flaw are an aspect of humans. Decades of loyalty have proved dogs as a great asset and a necessary good for man in keeping this nation safe and alive, truly, mans best friend.

Unlike us a detector dog is able to detect someone who maybe carrying an illegal substance and will be able to bring it to the attention of the people working with the dog. Figures show that detector dogs have been priceless asset to HM Customs and Excise and unlike modern technology they are not at a stupidly high price.
