Serial Killers and Criminal Justice

Most of the time people cannot comprehend why people that work in the forensic department are sometimes overwrought with anxiety when they have a serial killer case brought into their lab. These forensic scientists have these feelings due to knowing that this could potentially help advance technology. Over the years, serial killers have unpremeditatedly helped further advance the criminal investigation process by unintentionally leaving things behind for a forensics team to analyze. When the team finally solves these cases, it continually propels things such as DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) analysis, finger print techniques, and not to mention the investigation process itself. Countless serial killers have had an abnormal childhood; many people believe this is where the catalyst of events starts. It is proven, that more often than not, serial killers have either lived in an inhabitable home, had lackadaisical parents, or could have a different frame of mind. This being said, when one hears about mass murderers or serial killers, the first question that pops into a person’s head is, “What were they thinking?” For all a person knows, this could be the killer’s normalcy. The notorious killers, such as, Albert Fish and John Wayne Gacy, Jr. both came from broken homes. “Fish was five years old when his father died, and his mother placed him in an orphanage while she worked to support herself. Records also describe young Fish as a problem child who ‘ran away every Saturday,’ persistently wetting the bed until his 11th year” (Newton 76-77). In his case it was undoubtedly noticeable that there was an issue, yet his caretakers were not mindful of these issues. However, not all cases are the same. For example, Gacy’s father, John Gacy, Sr.,... ... middle of paper ... ... time a suspect is not sure what exactly is happening. In conclusion, there are many other things in the world that help contribute to advancing technology that no one really puts any thought into. Yet, it affects so many people in the world; one would think that we would pay more attention to details like this. Fortunately we have forensic sicents all over the United States who devote their careers and lives to help us with numerous things. Such as finding lost kids, solve cold cases, and even catching serial killers and rapist; just to name a few.
