On September11, 2001 at 8:46 am an American Airline Plane carrying 96 passengers crashed into the side of the north Twin Tower in New York City. Several minutes later another plane crashed into the second Twin Tower. It didn’t take long after the second plane struck for the second tower to fully collapse. At 10:28 am the first tower followed suite and collapsed leaving many people including fire fighters and police officers trapped in the debris from the falling towers. The debris from the falling towers also caused the surrounding building to catch a fire, including World Trade 7 which at 5:20 pm collapsed luckily they were able to evacuate the building. Over 3,000 people were killed that day in New York City and in Washington, D.C. The days after 9/11 brought a significant amount of change to our country. According, to the History website composed by A&E, the airplanes were hijacked by 19 militants who were associated with al-Qaeda. These individuals hijacked four planes. Two of the four planes were crashed into the Twin Towers. A third plane was crashed into the Pentagon and the last plane crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. The tragedies of September11, 2001 led to the creation of many acts, security systems and groups of anti-terrorism. The Department of Homeland Security was created just 11 short days after the events of 9/11. The Department of Homeland Securities was created to ensure a homeland that is safe, secure and resilient against terrorism and other hazards. The foundation has three key concepts according to the website, those include; security, resilience and customs and exchange. The Homeland Security website also states that there are five core missions preventing terrorism, secure and mange our borders, e... ... middle of paper ... ... me that no terrorist is willing to risk getting caught by TSA because of the layers of security that one must go through in an airport. As far as the shootings in Fort Hood, I remain a bit puzzled that the bases security and emergency response system was not at point that would make one want to think twice about opening fire on the base again after the shooting in 2009. The fort’s security should have been at an all time high, making Lopez consider his actions before taking them. The Department of Homeland Security, the Transportation Security Administration, the Homeland Security Advisory System and the National Terrorism Advisory System all stem from the events of September 11, 2001. These systems and departments were put into to place to improve the safety of the American people. As I have stated previously, no system is perfect but we can sure strive to be.
