Senior year is an important time in a teen’s life. It is the year when we decide what we want to do, and who we want to be. The College or University we choose is a big part of this. I want to go to Dallas Baptist University to find ways to honor my father God, to become a beacon of Christ, and to help others. I’ve grown up with a single mother and a twin brother. Life has not been easy for my mom, between struggling to provide food, shelter, love, and faith. So when my brother and I started growing up she was worried about our lack of a father, but when we moved next to our family and to a Christian camp called “Camp Peniel” I quickly found my real father figure, God. God is the one who comforted me through bullying and teenage hormones, God …show more content…
Ashley is a woman who wears love, kindness, and Godliness as her fragrance. Through the week I spent with her in summer camp as an eight-year-old, I grew immensely in my Faith and decided this woman was the kind of person I wanted to be. God provided for me, as Ashley married my cousin years later, enabling me to see her all the time! She has been impeccably kind to me and a great role model when it comes to putting faith in God when the world is tough. The summer before my senior year of high school, Ashley told me about Dallas Baptist. She told me how the teachers there care about their students, not only their success but their well-being and spiritual journey. She told me that DBU helped her become who she is. That was when I became interested. When I visited myself, as earlier mentioned, I found the staff to be very welcoming and kind. I was scheduled for a tour, but couldn't find the right building, so I had to ask a lot of people around the campus for help. Every single person I talked to on my way was very kind and exuberated patience and friendliness, and when I finally found the right place, the tour guide was forgiving and helped me catch up on what I missed instead of leaving me to help myself. Everyone there answered all my questions, and when my mother and I mentioned troubles with financial aid, staff went out of their way to help us. Every person there acted like they wanted me there, …show more content…
I asked her what was wrong, and she told me her father had recently died in a car crash. She was not religious, but her father was, and had wanted to be buried. However, the family did not have money to provide a funeral for him and instead had to incinerate his body. I listened to her talk about it and broke inside when she said, “It was the one thing he wanted, and we can’t give it to him”. After she left, I called my mother and told her about the situation. “What if I got a job, started working?” “Emmy, that would take years to make enough”. “What if I ask the church for a donation? What about Grammy and Papa? I could pay them back!” “Honey, I’m so sorry, but I don't think you realize how much a funeral costs.” I sat down on the bench outside of my school and I cried. I cried, and I cried, and I cried because the one person who was a spiritual influence in this girl’s life was gone. When my mother picked me up, she told me what we could do was pray for her. So I prayed. Months later, I was sitting through another friend's key club meeting when I heard them mention a family whose father had died. I looked up and discovered they were indeed talking about my friend, and signed up for Key Club right away. In May, we are holding a foam run to raise money for her family. These changes are what I want to specialize
Every year there are thousands of students planning and tracking their goals. Seniors in high school are faced with the tough challenge, while the Juniors are left to worry another year. Finally, the point comes a student’s life where they must make one of the most important decisions in their educational lifetime. That choice is, which college to attend, and it is a very scrutinous process. Two of such colleges are the University of Iowa and St. Ambrose University, and although similarities like majors and minors are evident, there are many other differences including student life.
A challenge that all seniors face at the end of their high school career is the decision that will shape the rest of their future. Will it be Harvard, Ivy Tech, or a job at the nearest fast food joint? Of course, there is nothing wrong with not going to college, but for the people of society who plan to marry and have at least three children, it is almost essential. After making this decision, the seniors who choose to attend college must then decide which one. Campus size, housing, nearby activities, and available degrees and study programs are all important traits to consider when searching for the perfect college.
Freshman fifteen is the NEW EPIDEMIC!!.. or not? In the eyes of freshman, college can be seen as entering the lion’s den when transitioning from high school. Students routines, diets, and moods drastically change resulting in an imbalance of one’s well being. As a way to cope college freshman typically look towards food for a release. Therefore, this is where the term freshman fifteen was born. Freshman fifteen is the idea that in one’s first year of attending college, the student will gain fifteen pounds. On average students are gaining weight at an abnormal pace however, it is not exactly the amount that the media has portrayed.
Growing up, I was raised by a single mother of four and I was fortunate enough to have an extraordinary mother, who always put her children before herself and sacrificed a lot for our well being. I was brought up, in a Baptist Christian household, which has strongly influenced my beliefs, values and life decisions. My mother made it her duty to help build her children’s relationships with God. By making sure, we knew the importance of having him in our lives, and that we knew the word of God. I remember as a child, my mom use to read us scriptures from the bible and explain them to us in an age appropriate manner. I greatly appreciate her efforts because she was the force behind my connection with God and it has made me into the women I am today. Some
Terrie is a woman that loves everyone. She is a kindhearted person and doesn’t see a dark soul in anyone. Ten months earlier, she was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer; a week after that, it turned into stage four. I took the news very hard. For several months, we shared stories, laughed together and ate potato chips, since that was the only thing she could taste and keep down with her chemo treatment. After eight months, she snuck up behind me and gave me a big hug. It was one of those hugs that held onto me emotionally. After that I never saw her again, until this moment: I broke down into tears while my friend witnessed it. I didn’t go to work that day, I stayed home making phone calls and praying that I would be able to see her one last time. My mother came home to comfort me. She got a phone call stating that Terrie was asking about me. My mother rushed us both in the little red car to the hospital. I ran up
Being a senior to me means more that just one thing. It means my last ten football games, senior project and, graduating. It seems like yesterday that I was in eighth grade watching my brother play football on the same field I am now. Back then being a senior in high school seemed so far away that I never took the time to think about it or anything. Now that it’s here I wonder where the time went.

Junior High is a very stressful place to be. There are many teachers who inspire you and are nice to you, but you have been the teacher to stick out the most to me(in the most amazing way, of course). You always make sure I am ok and if I am not then you sit down with me and give me advice on what to do. I have never had a teacher do that for me before. An unknown person once said, “The best teachers teach from the heart. Not from the book.” That quote reminds me so much of you because this whole school year I have seen that you truly do care about your students and their well-beings.
Many people have been asking me how I feel about my last semester of senior year in high school. Some students say that they are ready to get out of high school others not so much. I see both sides of how you would feel about it and really don't know which side Im on. At times I am ready for the year to be over others I'm not. The times that I am ready for the year to be over could be caused by a variety of things. For example you might be feeling like your ready to grow up and start your adult life, you could be having a bad day and that makes everything less enjoyable, you could have had a bad experience at the school and want to get out of there as soon as possible so you don't experience anything bad again. The effects of wanting to be
After three long years of high school it is finally time to experience one of the greatest years of my life, senior year. There will be a lot of lasts this year. Last first day of school, last homecoming, last volleyball game. This year is all about making memories with my friends before we graduate and go our different ways.
The year is 2027, first off I want you not to worry about death anymore
As I checked the boxes for my senior year schedule, I decided to choose a first period class I never would’ve gone toward in my freshman year. I envisioned the benefits that a first period study hall would entail-the ability to complete last-minute homework or get iced mochas with my friends before class. Two nights before the first day of school, I checked my schedule and was met with an alarming slew of sentences and pieced them together in panic: first period...student aide….sixth-grade Spanish teacher? This was All Wrong. I wasn’t going to get my study hall, and I was also going to have to cut out flashcards and grade quizzes in the very place that was the source of my Pulitzer in dramatic diary entries a few years prior?
When I was a young child, my dad was my idol and hero. He seemed to know everything and had the solution to every problem. Any difficulty I had, anything I didn’t understand, my dad had the answer to everything. It seemed like it was every day that he taught me a new valuable life lesson and always had wise advice to share. My dad used to work all day long in Boston and my brother and I would wait by the door to greet him with a crushing hug as soon as he came home. I used to wait eagerly for my dad to come to my room to read me a bedtime story and then tuck me into bed. My dad could do no wrong. He was right about everything and knew how to deal with anything. However, as I grew older, my convictions changed and the image I had of my dad fragmented.
My parents were very influential in the development of my story. They have been with me every step of the way through everything I have encountered throughout my life. “We will always be here for you no matter what, supporting you with everything in life. God will always be there for you and he will love you unconditionally and he will support you and guide you” (mom and dad). My youth leader has been very inspirational when talking to my youth group. “God is present in all of us, whether we choose to acknowledge him or not. God will always be there and you can talk to him about anything. He does not judge and will forever listen to you” (youth pastor). My grandmother was always playing music and loved to get dressed up for church and to spread God’s love. She made me excited to go to church and spread my faith. “Believing in God is important and it can help you with everything. God will always guide you in the right direction when you are unsure of where to go in life. Always remember that you have ...
There are times when you don’t know what to do or times when you might feel like you have no help in this world, but there is always that one person who never fails to give you the best advice in life, and that is your father. I have so much respect for any father out there that works hard, and always supports his family no matter what his imperfections might be. My father has got to be the best one in my opinion. He has been the biggest inspiration in my life because he taught me so much stuff in this life that I can’t find a way to pay him. He has been a very humble person and has never seen himself better than anyone else because he believes he is equal to any other father. In my opinion he is the best even though he says he isn’t. My father had imperfections just like any other human being in this world, yet he still taught me how to be a great person in this world by teaching me good morals. “Never Give Up, and believe in God and you will accomplish what you want in life” are words my father always tells me to remember.
