The senior year of high school can be the most stressful, yet most important year in a student’s life. A few contributing factors to the stress of the senior year have to do with major life decisions. Choosing a career that a person can enjoy for their entire life is a huge responsibility. Choosing the correct college and major can affect the success of an individual’s career path. Another huge stress is figuring out a way to pay for college. Studies show that the average college graduate has approximately $37,000 in student loans (“US Student Loan Debt”). It is also overwhelming to keep grades up and get an acceptable score on the ACT to qualify for scholarships and admittance to colleges. Ohio University and Bowling Green State University are both excellent college choices; however, Bowling Green State University is a better choice for me mainly due to the location, and it offers an excellent program for my career path. …show more content…
College comes with many expenses, and it is important to get into as little debt as possible so it doesn’t become a problem in the future. For Ohio residents, the annual tuition and fees of Bowling Green State University is $10,606 (“BGSU”). The annual cost of room and board is about $8,690, and an estimated $4,610 for other expenses (“BGSU”). At Ohio University, the yearly tuition and fees costs $11,744, with an annual room and board cost of $11,176, and approximately $3,736 for additional expenses (“Ohio University Tuition, Cost”). Every year there are thousands of students planning and tracking their goals. Seniors in high school are faced with the tough challenge, while the Juniors are left to worry another year. Finally, the point comes a student’s life where they must make one of the most important decisions in their educational lifetime. That choice is, which college to attend, and it is a very scrutinous process. Two of such colleges are the University of Iowa and St. Ambrose University, and although similarities like majors and minors are evident, there are many other differences including student life.
One friend kills another. Speeches are presented. A war breaks out. This is the story of Julius Caesar, the emperor of Rome who was killed by Brutus and a group of conspirators. Many argue that Brutus was a patriot, and many argue that he was a betrayer. People argue that he was a betrayer because he betrayed Caesar’s trust and gave a speech against him. However, when you think of Caesar’s personality, arrogant and slightly reckless, he could’ve made bad decisions and caused Rome a great deal of trouble. Brutus was a patriot to Rome since he did what was best for the country and even took his own life instead of running away. He put his own feelings aside to do what was right.
As a student at Northvale Public School, I have grown up with my older siblings being inducted into an organization called the National Junior Honor Society. I had seen all the hard work and dedication they put into their school work and activities just to get into this society, making me want to be just like them. Then a few weeks ago, I found a note on my desk in homeroom telling me that I had been nominated to be apart of this society. Through citizenship and character, leadership, and service, I intend on being inducted into the society I have heard so much about. Though it will take a lot of effort this school year, being a part of this society is a dream of mine that I will make sure to come true.
Senioritis: Real Disease Or Just An Excuse? Senioritis is defined by the “sickness” of high school seniors. It has the biggest impact on students during the second semester of senior year and it is characterized by the lack of motivation to stay engaged. Many of the soon-to-be graduates tend to slack off by the end of the school year.
What is Senioritis? What causes Senioritis? Senioritis is a problem that affects most seniors after they have applied and been accepted to college. It not only affects the average senior, but the top of the class seniors as well. In the article Fighting senioritis By Eric Hoover, he states:
For the past decade, The United States has stressed the importance of college education, to those seeking employment, and better careers. For most people, college is the logical next step in education, as it provides a working knowledge of a desired field and opens the door to many opportunities, but college has become increasingly more expensive as time goes on. Many people feel that college is no longer an option financially. Even with financial aid and scholarships, the cost of a college education can still be very taxing. This is due to massive price increase across the boards, but the main issue on most people’s minds is the debt that will be acquired from higher education.
The central idea of “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” by Flannery O'Connor deals with the struggle to change a person in a positive way through religion. A person can be easily changed if grace, properly experienced, changes one's personal qualities (O'Connor qtd. in Hendricks). Attempting to change a person through religion becomes difficult when that individual demands to witness a miracle in order to believe: “if the Misfit had been able to see the miracle of Lazarus for himself, he would have believed that Jesus was the son of God, and he would have been able to live a conventional Christian life” (Hendricks).
With tuition rising every year, students face the challenge paying the debt achieving a college degree comes with. “Student debt surpassed credit-card debt in June 2010 for the first time in history, rising to about $830 billion — or nearly 6 percent of the nation 's annual economic output”(Clemmitt, Marcia). Not everyone has a ton of money just laying around. Being that financial trouble is the biggest problem for students, they begin to question whether college is worth it or not. In recent years, students have taken out loans to help with expenses. Most students choose to attend a community and junior college to help minimize the debt. Even after graduating with a degree, students still face the struggle of finding a job in this economic time. For higher class families this may not be a problem to them. But for the middle class and low income families, they face tougher times being that they don 't have the financial help like higher class families do. For the middle class and low income families, it makes more sense attending a community and junior college rather than a four year university.
It is a norm and expectation in society today for students to pursue higher education after graduating from high school. College tuition is on the rise, and a lot of students have difficulty paying for their tuitions. To pay for their tuitions, most students have to take out loans and at the end of four years, those students end up in debt. Student loan debts are at an all time high with so many people graduating from college, and having difficulties finding jobs in their career fields, so they have difficulties paying off their student loans and, they also don’t have a full understanding of the term of the loans and their options if they are unable to repay.
Children of the twenty first century spend nearly 13 years in school, preparing for what is college, one of the only ways to achieve the so-called “American Dream”. College is the best way to start an advanced career and go further than one possibly could if college degrees were not available, allowing people to achieve their view of the American Dream; whether it be large houses, shiny cars, multiple kids, or financial comfort, college is the stepping stone to achieve the American Dream. But all great things come with a price, college dragging along debt. Students who attend college struggle to find ways to pay for it, leading to applying for student loans. These loans a great short term, paying for the schooling at the moment but eventually the money adds up
One of the first thing a freshman hears or thinks about when going to college is the legendary “freshman fifteen.” The freshman fifteen is defined as a fifteen pound average weight gain that happens during a student’s first year in college. This problem has affected many freshmen because it causes them to fear that they are going to gain weight when they go off to college, but the undetected truth of this case is that a lot of freshmen lose or gain under fifteen pounds. To solve this ongoing problem, colleges and universities should incorporate more healthy food items on campus, provide student cooking, and create fitness and wellness housing.
When a student gets out of college the game plan is supposed to be, get a job in the field that you went to school for and make money so you can start your life. That particular situation is rare considering not all students get a job fresh out of college. For the students that don’t, they have to go back home and settle for a regular job and start paying off their giant student loans and put their life on hold. Even with having the job they wanted the student loans come right around the corner. After college is when the student’s life is supposed to start and the part where you get a car payment, pay rent, utilities, but none of that is possible when you add the enormous amount of money that the student will be in debt by. With the amount the students have to pay fresh out of college, more students are sacrificing more time struggling to pay off the student loans then they spent in school. Student loans are set-up in a way to be flawed and not always completely necessary to the student.
As the high school chapter is coming to a close, many students have to make a decision that will affect the rest of their lives. Hopefully, for many that decision is to enroll in a college and attain a higher education. However, as tuition costs rise, students have to take a second look at their options for a better future. A community college is that second look for many because it is the less expensive option. From 2007-2009, enrollment for community colleges has increased by 24 percent (“College costs and the CPI”). Students aren’t choosing a college for educational purposes because they are overwhelmed by financial issues. They are attending community colleges so they will be able to graduate with a lower debt. Some seniors have wanted to attend a certain university all their life and they work toward that goal through grade school; however, they are hindered by soaring tuition for that college. Throughout the years, I have had to deal with many trials, and challenges. Growing up BI-racial had a big affect on both my parents’ relationship, my relationship with my parents (which later on lead to their separation). There were cultural clashes within my household; my mother who was from Korea, and my father who was from Panama. I had learned to depend on myself, my friends, and most importantly, on God.

In a lot of time with that classes they formally prepared to take over the team as they become the senior class and you know when I tell him I said a senior class has have to have very high standards because those standards now become the minimum for the team and if you can't because you can't live up to those standards. You almost have to make a decision to eject you know and say you know I cannot be a senior in this team and not have the highest standards because you accept the minimum standard for the rest of the team and so and that that means that the level of maturity. You know do I want to accept that and at the same time or just understand that you're going to have to maintain the standards and if you're not that person that can really do it then you just don't be the person that tries to get out in front of everything and that's a discussion that we have with all of them. Everybody's going to have skill sets and make sure that you know this is not the best person for the situation. If nobody does anything that somebody's going to fill the void.
