My project that I will be doing for my Senior project is helping out the Swan Falls Assisted living center here in kuna. I would be playing games, helping them get around, make cookies, and anything else they need. I want to give back to my community and help others out as much as I can. I also would like to donate blankets and warms socks to everyone that lives there since it’s winter and its cold. It’s a very nice and generous thing to do and some of those people in there don’t get to see their family since they live out of town, work, or medical issues. The authentic learning I will get from doing this is how to take care of someone. When you think about taking care of someone you just think about taking them to doctors when they are sick, or making food, or cleaning up after them. I would think that the elders that live there would need more than that. Since they don’t have their family they would miss them a lot so I would love to spend my spare time there and play games with them, go on short walks if they are allowed too. Bake cookies if this is allowed and make arts and crafts with them. I would want someone do that for me if I was there. I hope to learn the respect and how much work it takes to do this kind of work and prepare myself. …show more content…
Since Kuna does not do ride alongs for the EMT program I decided to do the assisted living center. It has kind of the same qualities, they both take care of other people but one just is more severe. The main purpose of wanting to be an EMT is that I want to help people, I want to give back to the community and help others just like when the doctor’s helped me with all my medical problems. I would love to spend my time helping people and taking care of people. I try my hardest to help others as much as I can around school and outside of school. My family knows me for helping others when they need it or being there when people need
Many service projects have had an impact on my life, but the significant one is the time that our group put together Blessing Bags. The Blessing Bags were bags put together for homeless people. This project had an impact on my life because at one point in time, my family struggled. We did not have a stable home and we had to continue movie because of the living expenses. It is very difficult to buy many products that are needed for personal hygiene, especially if someone does not have a stable home. There are many people that live in the streets and it breaks my heart. Whenever I see homeless people, I give them what I can. Although my family did not become homeless, I could not imagine living in the streets without any food, clothing, or products
For my career I am going to talk about why being an EMT is a great job to have, and why most people choose to be an EMT. I am also going to give three reasons why I would love to be an EMT. One reason I want to be an EMT is because I like to work with people, but I also like to be in the medical field. The second reason I want to be an EMT is because these type of people can work with anyone with the right personality of course and plus they get to be around people all day and help save lives without; EMTs most people wouldn’t survive long enough to get to the hospital. The third reason I want to be an EMT is because I’ve been fascinated with the medical
Becoming an Occupational Therapy Assistant has been an ambition of mine for several years now. After researching, job shadowing, and talking to professionals, I have decided to make Occupation Therapy my career. My passion is to help patients by participating and assisting them in their recovery from injuries and disabilities. My compassionate and caring attitude will be vital assets in pursuing this career. After training in Occupational Therapy, it is motivating for me to know that I will be a part of assisting patients to gain back their independence. Helping others is something that I am passionate about in my career and in my spare time. I have been on several mission trips to Haiti and other places which I have provided care for others in a medical setting.
One other way that I believe I could give back to my community would be through the local nursing home. Comfort and not being forgotten are both important to our senior citizens. Checking with the nursing staff on the condition of the residents' dentures would be an opportunity to serve. The nursing staff could recommend those residents that might have minor problems with dentures.
Ankle sprains are one of the most common musculoskeletal injuries and are especially relevant at all level of sport.1 Of all sports, the incidence of ankle sprain is higher in volleyball considering its non-contact nature.2 The most common ankle sprain occurs on the lateral or outside part of the ankle.3 Reports estimate that ankle sprains account for approximately 24% to 54% of all sport-related injuries and 23,000 persons get them per day in the United States.4
Caring for people is my passion. My senior year of high school is when I witnessed my grandmother live on a ventilator for about a week. It awakened a new level of passion in me to care for people with cardiopulmonary problems. The Respiratory Therapy Care profession has intrigued me with how they improve the quality of life in their patients. I will enjoy working closely with patients in addition to working high tech equipment. By entering into this program and graduating out of this program I know that this will satisfy my personal goals for the next five years in many ways. The continues challenges of trying to figure out what’s wrong the heart that day or what’s wrong with the lung the next day will always keep me on my toes. It will always
How would you feel if your devoted dog was discriminated against based only on what he looked like? Canine breed discrimination is a real problem in today’s society in the United States. There is always an enormous amount of hype when one hears about a dog attack. The first thing people want to know is what kind of dog was involved in the attack. That breed of dog then gets labeled as “dangerous”, quietly forcing people to change their opinion on a certain breed based on an action of only a couple of dogs.
On July 2, 1962, the first Wal-Mart store opened in Arkansas, and over the next 50 years, Wal-Mart became a retail giant. Holding the title of the world’s largest employer, only comparable to the United States Department of Defense and Chinas Army, Wal-Mart employs over 2.1 million people. Sam Walton’s philosophy was low prices. Instead of offering good sales every once in a while, Walton offered an “always lower price” than competitors on things that ordinary people use every day. This philosophy continues to attract more than 140 million shoppers per week. This staggering amount of shoppers helped produce a revenue of $443billion for fiscal year 2012 alone (Matthews, 2012). With more than 6,000 stores in 14 countries, Wal-Mart produces remarkable revenue each year (Hesterly, 2010). With literally billions pouring into the company, one must assess how the money is controlled and if its accounted for by the best contemporary management techniques on the market. While Wal-Mart thrives on the use of benchmarketing and lean accounting, the Theory of Constraints paired with lean accounting could produce staggering results for Wal-Mart in terms of financial management.
One year ago I realized that drinking and driving is very dangerous. My cousin Janet had everything that anyone will ever ask for in life, a car, a job, a boyfriend that loved her more than anything else in the whole world, a son and a promising future. All that changed when she decided to drive home from a party after drinking. She fall asleep at the wheel, crashed her car very bad into a ditch. Janet was my role model who I looked up in many ways, she always inspired by how hard she worked, but all that changed in one day. For nearly two months she remained in coma and now she is spending several time in rehabilitation to help he learn basic motor functions such as talking, walking and swallowing . For the rest of her life she will likely suffer from memory loss, dangerous seizures and even impaired speech.
Most scientists agree that humans are contributing to global warming effects around the world. The existence of the polar ice caps and the rate at which they are melting are threatened by global warming. This threat is leading scientists to use geothermal energy in our everyday lives in hopes of preserving the polar ice caps. In order for people to thinking about helping to preserve them, they need to understand polar ice caps. Because polar ice caps are melting, there are many issues occurring in our world such as natural disasters. People are impacting the melting of the ice caps but, the ice caps are also impacting people as well. One alternative to using fossil fuels is geothermal energy. Geothermal energy can change the way we use resources from the earth forever, and potentially slow the rate of global warming.
One of the organizations that I volunteered at for the majority amount of time was the Hands of Hope Childcare Center. This organization is nonprofit and Christian based. Majority of the items that have are used at this childcare center has been donated from its local community. The childcare center is available to the Oakland County community. They service children who have been subjected to poverty and abuse. This organization also provide help to their parents by providing shelter.
Volunteering in your local community is great way to give back and set a positive example at the same time. Let’s take a look at some of the problems in our community that affect many people.
For this job there are some unifying characteristics an ER physician must be capable of. Some of the attributes that fit this occupation are quick thinking, being friendly, having confidence, and having a genuine passion for the field of medicine. Knowing these principles and looking back to the multiple personality survey as well the values survey results, I fit right into the medical field. Personally I possess characteristics of quick thinking, being considerate, and being kind. Along with those values, I genuinely have a drive and love for studying medicine. There is also the fact that I could go to work everyday and help others makes the job all worthwhile. Besides helping others, the mystery that this job brings drives me to enter this line of work. I volunteered at East Parkside Nursing Home through my church 's mentoring program. At first, I was somewhat uncomfortable volunteering at a nursing home because my great-grandfather, among many others, was mistreated in a nursing home. But, as the day went on and we engaged in activities with the residents, I eventually calmed down and got into the smooth of things. We had one-on-one contact with the seniors, and we learned about their lives and families. One of the seniors was a veteran who fought in the Vietnam War and he told all of the volunteers a few short war stories. For several residents, their families rarely visited them, so they genuinely appreciated the volunteers spending time with them. Later, we made holiday cards and sang Christmas carols for the senior citizens. They seemed so elated and pleased, which made me feel so fulfilled that I could make someone 's day by doing something so
