Senior Experience Reflection The Senior Experience was an excellent project to prepare me for the challenges common in college and the real world. One obstacle I faced was creating an appointment with the Lexington County Sheriffs Department. It was difficult waiting on the police department to contact me back, while deadlines for when I needed job shadowing forums steadily approached. Along with that, I had difficulties managing my time, because as a Student Athletic Training Aid I had to stay late after school everyday. I overcame this by finding work I could do in the baseball dugout and working over the weekend. On the other hand, Ms. Capers and I worked well together. We had the same ILT and could meet whenever needed. The only problem was that I chose a teacher that had not been an advisor before, luckily I was able to explain what her role was well enough. …show more content…
While choosing a topic for my research paper I had no idea what to do.
My solution was to go onto Discus and go to opposing view point and find the first subject I wanted to know more about. I settled on the legalization of marijuana because it is controversial and timely. On Discus, there was a wealth of information for and against my argument. I found every resource I needed on discus and then I looked into the background of the authors of these articles to determine weather or not it could be trusted. With the help of Ms. Florence, and my annotated bibliography, I was able to create a catalog of the articles I read, wether or not they could be trusted, and the main ideas of the articles. With all of these resources my research paper was easily put
together. For my job shadowing I went to the Lexington County Sheriffs Department and shadowed Detective Burrell. I dressed appropriately and followed every rule they set for me. I was able to ask the Detective and his coworkers questions respectfully about my topic. I asked many important questions and learned the viewpoints of our county police on marijuana and other drugs. I also learned the basic responsibilities of a detective. As my 10 hours of community service I was a Student Athletic Training Aid for the Lexington High School football team. During my 10 hours I work one Friday night football game. I was assigned bottles on this night and was in charge of timeout water. While working I maintained a professional attitude and stayed on top of timeouts. As for my exhibition, I spent a great amount of time preparing. I was able to find photo that connected to the topic of each slide and made my presentation pleasing to the viewer. I was able to practice my presentation with my family and had one meeting with my advisor where I presented and we went through how each slide could be better. My advisor told me I was knowledgeable about my topic, spoke clearly, and made good eye contact. One thing I could have done better on was controlling my time. While practicing I was close to a two minutes short of the desired time, luckily durning my presentation I took longer than expected on questions after and was able to achieve the right time. In all I felt extremely confident going into the exhibition and when I left I knew I had done the best I could.
The older adult interviewed for the purpose of this assignment was Alice Margaret Cox, the interviewers grandmother. Alice was born on February 17th, 1932 in Brown County, Minnesota. Alice was the daughter of Rose Veldman and had three brothers and three sisters. In 1942, Hikel Veldman, after marrying Rose, legally adopted Alice and her six siblings. He brought four children of his own, making a family of 13. After the family was adopted, the majority of their childhood to early adult life was spent living in Hollandale, Minnesota. Alice spent the majority of her life farming and now helps out part time at a family owned thrift store. Alice currently resides in Lake City Minnesota, in her home of twenty plus years. Only four of the eleven
Overall, I was grateful for this experience. I was able to find out more about the behind the scenes responsibilities of our schools’ leadership.
The focus of this paper is to compare and contrast a well elder and a frail elder while using Occupational Therapy Practice Framework language. For this assignment I chose to conduct a semi structured interview using the Canadian Occupational performance Measure (COPM) to gather information about my chosen elders perceived problems and priorities. For this assignment I will be using pseudonyms in order to protect the privacy of both individuals.
We had to find academic articles and popular articles. It is important to distinguish between a popular and scholarly article, but not all articles are credible. I learned how to find credibility in articles by finding the publication date, author’s credential, works references, and lengths of the articles. I started to work on the thesis and developed reasons to support my thesis. I also came up with reasons and found more articles as I go through the process.
In this assignment I will be discussing the follow up questions following Chapter Ten in the assigned reading. The assigned reading is called “University Hospital,” The questions I will be answering are; Do you think the scenario in this case is unique to University Hospital, or do other academic medical centers approach HRM and HIT in a similar piecemeal, ad hoc fashion. What suggestions would you provide to the senior management at University Hospital to improve HRM and HIT functions? I will also be providing my research to back up my findings to the assigned reading.
Truck driving is a much needed career to help transport goods across the United States and other local areas. Commercial Truck Driving is the career I choose to uphold. Trucking is a way of transportation needed to keep business going. Trucking has been a part of my family for years so I fell in love with trucks now I won’t to drive my own. This career has a good background, career requirements, job positions, and a good reflection.
Introduction What does it mean to be an effective supervisor? Before taking this class, I thought that if a supervisor is able get their employees to work effectively, and efficiently, then the person is an effective supervisor. I didn’t realize until taking this class that supervisors do so much more. After learning more about the other tasks supervisors do like planning, being effective listeners, and motivating employees, I have a better understanding of effective supervision. I am aware that I have had supervisory experiences.
Senioritis: Real Disease Or Just An Excuse? Senioritis is defined by the “sickness” of high school seniors. It has the biggest impact on students during the second semester of senior year and it is characterized by the lack of motivation to stay engaged. Many of the soon-to-be graduates tend to slack off by the end of the school year.
An interview was arranged with an older adult to discuss issues related to aging. The interview was designed to gain appreciation and understanding of an older adult. One theory of aging came into mind when I thought about this topic. Erik Erikson Life-Course and Personality Development theory, “Erikson described the task of old age as balancing the search for integrity and wholeness with a sense of despair.” NS is the older adult that I conducted the interview with. I’ve decided to pick NS to interview because she is very positive about life and her age. Everything that I have come across about aging is negative such as depression, isolation, and illness.
In general, the field experience assignment has been a learning and growing experience for me. While watching Ms. Hines deal with her class I’ve realized a few aptitudes I’ll be utilizing in the future. She has taught me how to manage a classroom, how to implement good behavior, and how to make a safe and comfortable classroom for the
My main field experience this semester was in Ms. Schreyer's third grade math class at Trinity South. I was in the classroom on Tuesdays from 8:30 to 12:00 and Thursdays from 10:30 to 2:00. When in Ms. Schreyer's class, I observed two different groups of students because of the way the class rotations work. The first group that I observed is Ms. Schreyer's homeroom. There are 17 students in her homeroom class, and four of them have IEPs for either learning support or emotional support. On Tuesdays I arrived as the students arrived, so I was able to see the morning routine. The students bring their materials to the classroom, go to breakfast, and, upon returning from breakfast, complete a bell ringer activity. The bell ringers alternate between math,
My selected area of interest for my senior capstone experience is lab-based research because I wanted to try something new. During my junior year, I had the honor and opportunity to work with Summerour Middle School’s Technology Team which showed me how computer programming could applicable in a certain profession. I learned several specialized programs that were a part of my mentor’s daily work routine and the importance of creating relationships with one another at the work site. Although I was able to take away several different skills and tips, the most important one that I realized was that I wanted try something else for my SCE. I had completed my JFE during the first semester of my junior year, so I was able to contemplate on what I
From all the things that I have covered, none of them were as trying as the inevitable research paper. I was worried about the final product and the grade I would receive because I have not had much luck with writing research papers in the past. I find them to be too tedious when having to cite research and quotations that I often did it incorrectly. My works cited page was often messy and unorganized and I could never find enough things to say about my topic in order to fulfill the designated word quota. This time around, I felt a little more confident because I had an outlined guide found in my “Common Sense” text that helped me overcome my worry about the specifics of citing and quoting as well as the organization of my works cited page....
Having a relationship with the students is a key factor in the academic success of the individual students. “When advisors help facilitate conversations between students and faculty members, they help the institution as a whole. When students feel connected to the campus community, they are more often retained and excel academically, creating a winning situation for everyone.” (Duberstein, 2009). When a student feels important to the advisor and knows that their needs and personal situations are taken into consideration, which is when a trusting student-advisor relationship is created. The advisor has a duty to take into consideration the cultural aspects of each of their students. By being aware of the individual cultures of each student and
Talking to old professors whom I hadn’t really established a relationship with in the past was sort of uncomforting, but I was definitely subconsciously intrigued and ready for the challenge of the assignment. The opportunity to come back as a ‘person’ to share thoughts and values was sort of eye opening. Reminded me of the time when I first learned teachers had lives outside of school (this definitely happened before third
