Ever since I can remember I have been a hyperactive child, I always find it difficult to pay attention and keep myself focused. I have learned over time to focus and stay on task when needed, and fix my distractions so I can regain focus on the class, teacher, or my homework. I do apply myself with subjects I love. The skills that I possess well are self-awareness and goal-setting. Lana Becker, educational researcher implies “Self-regulated learning requires students to make deliberate choices and consciously select and employ effective strategies so that learning will take place. Self-regulation [is] referred to as the ‘fusion of will and skill’” (par. 1) I do not apply myself in situations because of my lack of motivational skills. Although I possess great self regulated learning skills, I need to apply those skills across all learning situations.
. In school when I do not grasp a concept and that concept is a topic of interest, I find help for an extra explanation. For example, last year I took Advanced Placement chemistry. When I needed extra help I contacted my old chemistry teacher and planned tutoring for every Monday. “The resourceful student knows when to seek assistance and which resources to consult,” Becker claims (par. 11). I know when I am struggling to understand a concept. Over time I have discovered that I learn visually. I have always made flashcards for vocabulary, math, and even Spanish. I remember pictures, maps, and things I have read. By understanding how I learn, this comes in many advantages. I excel at obtaining help with subjects that interest me.
My self-awareness of how to stay on task has been an advantage to my learning. I know when I study too much, and when I need to stop for the rest of the day....

...week took motivation to not give up. However, school is a different story. Knowing how to improve is the question. Being a teenager means being lazy, and addressing learning skills is not the most important process to do. If I understood how to improve my self-regulated learning skills, I would have already been working to address these issues.
Style of learning is an important aspect of life. To increase my skills in my environments is important. I need to apply my self-regulated learning habits to all areas of learning, not just specific ones. Knowing how I learn and what I need to do to fix the problems of self-regulated learning will assist me in my future. I will better prepare my-self with future tests, jobs and life.

Last spring I was part of a tutor agency that provided activities to students from 1st – 6th grade. Such agency main purpose was to give students a set of mathematical problems or English pieces of reading in order for them to have an outstanding outcome on these two subjects at school. During my tutoring sessions I had a 4th grade student named Carolina who had a difficult time keeping focus, understanding the concept, and fully interested. She preferred texting in the middle of our session or making excuses to go to the restroom. I honestly felt helpless for her, and I didn’t know what to do and how to help her raise her grades. I realized that our tutoring sessions weren’t any help for Carolina since her mom showed me her grades which got worse. I finally decided to plan my tutoring session with her ahead of time, so I can make it interesting and more effective for her to learn but in a fun way. I choose to get different colorful cards, markers, and everything that could grave attention. When our session started I used those markers and cards to show her how to solve a mathematical problem by color coding every different step of the problem. Later, I asked her to show me the mathematical process she used in a similar problem by using those colorful cards and markers. Apparently, I make her use all these fun utensils that made the learning process more fun and effective. At the end of our session, I gave Carolina a quiz regarding the content we covered, and she did make a progress. I noticed that for Carolina the use of colors at every different step actually made her learn. Maybe it was due to the strategy that I showed her and the ability for her to remember those steps by associating them with each color which I was amazed an...
This tool states that learning is made up of four basic phases, which includes diverging, assimilating, converging, and accommodating, that gives one a better understanding of how they learn. The booklet claims that learning can be cyclical and four basic phases. These learning phases are described as a concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualization, and active experimentation. The assessment asserts that knowing about your learning style can help you better understand how to maximize your learning, solve problems, work in teams, manage conflict, making career choices and how to improve
I had a difficult time learning in school. I became a few years behind my grade level and my parents considered having me repeat a grade. My learning support teacher worked with me one on one for months and taught me how to study and work hard. I continued working hard and started getting better grades, and soon I became top of my class. I kept studying and strived to get the best possible grades throughout middle school and high school. I looked to challenge myself and took advanced placement classes. I don’t think I would have worked hard in high school, if I had not struggled earlier on, I would most likely be on a completely different life
Everyone strives to be the greatest, especially teenagers in school, failing can be upsetting when it comes to failing a class or grade. Failure in school can have a huge impact on a student's future. When students aim for a goal it's either accurate or precise depending on their mindset.
Metacognition is a cognitive theory, defined as a leaner’s awareness of his or her own learning process. Grounded in constructivist theory, metacognition gained widespread prominence in the 1970s. Metacognition, or “thinking about thinking”, is not a clearly defined word. research on metacognition, self-regulation, and self-regulated learning must be firmly connected with theory. As Winters et al. (2008) note, the lack of clear guiding conceptual frameworks in research studies creates confusion in terminology and leads researchers to use terms interchangeably. Thus, rather than asking how metacognition is involved during self-regulation, we end up asking whether metacognition is the same as self-regulation. Such definitional quandaries thwart
Learning is defined as a permanent change in attitude or behaviour that occurs as a result of repeated experience (Sims & Sims, 1995). Understanding one’s learning style has many advantages as it can help one to identify the learning method or activities that can help to optimise the learning experience. It has been suggested that the importance of one’s learning style has been identified through studies and research on how one can maximise the potential for success and further learning development (Honey & Mumford, 2006). Learning styles are unique to each individual and are developed in childhood (Chase, 2001). We all have different personalities; therefore we all have preferred learning styles that suit us best. The way one learns depends on preference. Some learn by observing, listening and imitating others and draw conclusions from their experience. There are several factors that affect our learning style; for example, background, culture, religion and environment can have a major influence on one’s learning.
Curiosity has always kept my mind wandering and looking for new things to learn and discover. I often find myself looking deeper into simple things to find bigger and better. Being curious is what keeps me coming back to learn more. If I wasn’t curious about what I was going to learn or what’s next I would get bored. Without curiosity, we would still be stuck in the 1800s and there would be no discoveries or advancements in modern day life. Being an independent woman I find it easy not to depend on others and often just being able to depend on myself to get things done. One skill I hope to fully acquire is self-management. Self-management is crucial in order to be successful, especially in an online campus. There are a few reasons I say self-management is important. One reason I believe self-management is significant is the fact that it encompasses many things, from putting time aside to do the work, to follow up with professors and classmates with any questions or concerns you may have and making your education a priority. Another reason I believe self-management is important is that it will be used in more than just schooling, it will be used in everyday living, and most importantly in the workplace. Within self-management, there is goal-setting and managing time which will be used in many cases. I often find myself slacking or becoming off task, but with a little motivation and concentration, I believe I have what it takes to master this important skill before
“A learning style is a way of learning and refers to the way that you learn new information” (2). Most people have one preferred learning style and perform to a lesser standard when learning in a different style than what they’re used to. Nowadays, children are told to take a quiz in school to determine what their preferred learning style is, but after a few years, not many of these children remember what their preferred learning style is, or even if they do, they don’t apply it to their learning.
As we reviewed the self awareness module this past week it was very interesting to see how the self assessments provided the class information about their own personal human behaviors. I was aware of most of the information provided but there were some tendencies I was surprised to find fitted my character. It was good to be reminded of the things I had forgotten about myself. Learning about my individuality and how I interact and respond to others based on my traits, personality and behavior has been an awakening experience. It is also great to know that I can work on areas that need improvement to become a more balance person to better assist my subordinates, teams and organizations.
It worked for me to an extinct like I had to basically form an alliance or network of people who were in my classes to get myself to stay focused and sometimes help them stay focused. I used to think i needed a small pill in order to get through a tough test or stay up all night cramming all the information I need for the test the next day. But I learned if instead of cramming i studied at the library for an hour a day I would do a lot better than cramming. Although we have spended a handful of nights staying up till studying and going over our study guides. In my opinion the skills we learned in this course are skills we will know and use for years to
Personal learning styles are highly complex and unique to specific individuals. It is often difficult to pinpoint an exact learning style. Though there are different categories, we often fine tune them to our own abilities. By examining our traits and tendencies we create a clearer understanding of how we process and learn information. With careful review, I have developed a specific analysis of my learning characteristics, including an evaluation of skill levels. Based on what I have recently learned and know from experience, I have also devised a structured plan for improvement of time management and study skills.
Kids of all ages around our country, have some difficulty to concentrate in school and get their task done. Some children start in an early age which develops a bad habit later on in life. Reason why this occurs in children and some adults is result of ADHD, a disorder that creates lack of concentration and lack of controlling energetic behavior. It can also mean that it’s hard for the person to be organized with their life and turns it into a habit. Children with poor concentration in school and educational work, can affect them later on in life if not treated or start to be organized in their own time.
Individuals are assumed to learn better when they discover things by themselves and when they control the pace of learning (Leidner & Jarvenpaa, 1995). Therefore, it is natural to expect that self-directed, interactive learning would improve learning outcome.
When you step back and look at the big picture of life, you will notice that the concept of learning plays an essential role in it. What you learn and how you learn is your key to life success and it can open a multitude of doors for you along the way. Learning, however, is routine and much like other activities that are routine such as brushing your teeth or eating meals, you begin to think less and less about what you are doing or how you have been doing it. I never actually put too much thought into how I learned or the origins of my learning experience, but after reflecting on the ideas I have been able to clearly identify the manners in which I have learned and how I can transform my learning experience
Thought out our lives, we are faced with many different learning experiences. Some of these experiences have made a better impact than others. This can be attributed to everyone’s different multiple intelligences or learning styles. A persons learning style is the method though which they gain information about their environment. As a teacher, it is our responsibility to know these styles, so we can reach each of our students and use all of the necessary methods.
