When building a self-driving car there are many new technologies that are imputed. However, those new technologies are also harmful to the environment due to the presence of harmful chemicals one onboard computer can contain up to 8 pounds (3.6 kilograms) of lead, along with lower levels of mercury, arsenic, cadmium, beryllium and other toxic chemicals. Since new electrical cars have no emissions 26 percent of the world's emissions will be gone if everyone switched to self-driving cars. Since companies produce a new car every year many old and obsolete cars will find themselves in the scrapyard where as stated before many harmful chemicals found in the car will seep into the earth contaminating resources and the surrounding land. But with electrical cars their lifespan will be much longer because of expensive components and relatively low demand. The main impact on society is that people will expect more cars to have this same technology resulting in a more mechanicalized world.
When the first cars come out many companies will immediately start designing their own form of the car so that they won't fall being. this will result in a faster advancement of technology. When people begin to see the self-driving car many resourceful people will implant this technology into new robots resulting in a mechanized form of production. This is both a good and bad thing, with new technology we can reduce the costs of products since machines are cheaper than workers, and wit the new technology we will no longer have to risk human lives during a disaster or war with the use of autonomous vehicles.Although this sounds good when this technology is implanted, many workers will lose their jobs. This will cause a spike in unemployment. When someone immediately steps into a self-driving car they won't be comfortable letting go of the wheel, this is natural since it is new technology but this might cause a loss of skill for driving and also fewer people taking the g1 and g2 licenses. This might cause the Government to hike takes since the licenses are a part of their
income. When the self-driving car comes out onto the road there will be many issues with the economy. first of all, there won't be as much money collected from the drivers ( ie drivers licenses and g1 and g2 permits) this might cause the government to hike taxes and prices. Housing might go up (more than it already has) food and clothing might also have a slight increase. This might result in people displeased with the government and might leader to a new party or leader being elected. There also might be more of a gap between the rich and the poor. Since the rich can afford the cars and the poor can't, this might lead to a time of political deadlock because the rich don't pay more taxes than the poor. since the rich don't like that, they will vote for one candidate and poor will vote for the other. However the rich have the power but the poor have the numbers. This could lead to another American election Trump representing the poor and Hilary the rich.

The real question people ask is how do they work and when are they coming out?
Major incumbent companies expect that the autonomous driving systems will be ready for the market in five years. This may be optimistic, but by 2050, cars that drive themselves could well be major production units for companies like General Motors. GM first revealed in 2010 that it had been working on self-driving cars[1]. Last year, GM demonstrated that the prototypes can follow the pace of traffic, while allowing the driver to have his hands off the steering wheel.
Although there are issues with implementing self-driving cars on the roads today, self-driving cars can ultimately benefit society. According to public announcements made by companies like Tesla and Nissan, we may start seeing self-driving cars on the roads within the next 3 to 6 years [Ref. 1 and 2].

Some experts believe fully autonomous vehicles will be on the road in the next 5-10 years (Anderson). This means a vehicle will be able to drive on the road without a driver or any passengers.
