According to subsection 2a, section 78A of the Environment Act 1995 contaminated land is defined as any land where:
“Significant harm is being caused or there is a significant possibility of such harm being caused”
All findings collected during site investigation constitute sufficient evidence that the abundant factory site can be designated as contaminated land. The site appears to be in such a condition that there is a high risk of serious harm to be caused as a result of pollution to soils and waters. Immediate remediation procedures are required in order to prevent the spread of pollution to the nearby housing area, which might cause significant harm to its occupants. In order to identify the appropriate person/s who should bear the

A remediation notice should be served to the responsible person(s) identified, whether this is the owner of the pharmaceutical factory or the current owner of the land, who must take the responsibility to clean up the waste and toxic chemical following approved remediation techniques, such as soil reagent mixing or other appropriate methods. The actions of the responsible person(s) should be closely monitored until remediation is successfully achieved. Another site inspection upon completion of remediation procedures would be required to confirm the safety of the site for future uses.
If the responsible person(s) fails to comply with the remediation notice, according the subsection (1) and (3) section 78F of Part IIA of the Environment Act 1995, “he shall be guilty of an offence” and is liable to “a fine not exceeding level 5 on the standard scale and to a further fine of an amount equal to one-tenth of level 5 on the standard scale for each day on which the failure continues after conviction of the
... Contaminated material will still be filled with cement and then contained in the area they are in, none of the material will be incinerated. Then the entire area will be caped off and landscaped for future use The first phase of this was completed in late 2009 while the second stage began in Spring of 2010. The setting in both Lord of the Flies and I Only Came to Use the Phone contributes to the dehumanization of the characters in each of the readings. The settings are both isolated, which is the cause of all the chaos that takes place because when you take a human being out of the comfort of society, they go back to their natural animalistic tendencies in order to survive. Survival of the fittest is present in these quotes. Also, the island archetype plays a huge role in both of the stories.
One of the many things that makes me happy or smile is being with my friends, but another thing that makes me really happy is doing robotics with my friends. Robotics is one of many activities that is involved in SECME. SECME is an acronym that stands for science, engineering, communication, mathematics, and enrichment. A few SECME activities that I enjoy doing that involve STEM or science, technology, engineering, and mathematics are seaperch, first lego league, vex, and vex IQ.
This amendment stated, “The objective of this Act is to restore and maintain the chemical, physical, and biological integrity of the Nation’s waters. The Administrator shall, after careful investigation, and in cooperation with other Federal agencies, State water pollution control agencies, interstate agencies, and the municipalities and industries involved, prepare or develop comprehensive programs for preventing, reducing, or eliminating the pollution of the navigable waters and ground waters and improving the sanitary condition of surface and underground waters ” (U.S Senate, 2002) Under this amendment, the “Clean Lakes Program.” And “National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System.” Were established. This Amendment is where the vast majority of debate is fostered. Section 404 addresses “permits for dredged or fill material” and
In the movie A Beautiful Mind, the description of schizophrenia is shown in many accurate ways. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) states that the symptoms of this disease are delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, or unorganized or catatonic behavior. People with schizophrenia are also socially withdrawn and awkward when in contact with other people. These traits of the sickness are shown in detail throughout the movie by way of the character John Nash’s struggle with the disease. Nash is a very intelligent professor but believes he is working with the government to foil a Soviet attack plot. Nash eventually goes onto win a Nobel Prize for one of his theories. The movie shows the effects of schizophrenia on not only one man, but also on the friends and family of the ill individual. Treatment is discussed but not to any great length due to him ignoring the doctor’s orders on medication. Overall the movie shows some very prevalent traits of the disease in great detail during certain parts of the film.
In “The Fish” by Elizabeth Bishop, the narrator attempts to understand the relationship between humans and nature and finds herself concluding that they are intertwined due to humans’ underlying need to take away from nature, whether through the act of poetic imagination or through the exploitation and contamination of nature. Bishop’s view of nature changes from one where it is an unknown, mysterious, and fearful presence that is antagonistic, to one that characterizes nature as being resilient when faced against harm and often victimized by people. Mary Oliver’s poem also titled “The Fish” offers a response to Bishop’s idea that people are harming nature, by providing another reason as to why people are harming nature, which is due to how people are unable to view nature as something that exists and goes beyond the purpose of serving human needs and offers a different interpretation of the relationship between man and nature. Oliver believes that nature serves as subsidence for humans, both physically and spiritually. Unlike Bishop who finds peace through understanding her role in nature’s plight and acceptance at the merging between the natural and human worlds, Oliver finds that through the literal act of consuming nature can she obtain a form of empowerment that allows her to become one with nature.
While I was reading the novel Beloved, I noticed several testimonies throughout the book, one of them being equality. The novel tells a tragic story about slavery and it is often pointed out that the color of one’s skin determines how he or she will be treated throughout life. The slaves in the book are in constant battle to survive among the white men; however, survival is not always the best things for the slaves.

A single slip in action may cause lasting sorrow. A slight mistake in operation at a Union Carbide pesticide plant in Bhopal of India causes a lot of deaths and injuries. What a tragedy it is. Undoubtedly, there must be something wrong with the management of the plant.
In 1976 the Resource Conservation Recovery Act was passed. This act is a main federal law in the United States that governs disposal of solid waste and hazardous waste. The act also generates criminal liability for anyone who knowingly handles hazardous waste without an RCRA permit. The Aberdeen Proving Grounds complied with the RCRA regulation and obtained a permit for management of hazardous waste materials at the proving grounds; however, only three separate areas at Aberdeen were designated for storage of hazardous wastes under this permit, and it did not allow storage, treatment, or disposal of hazardous wastes at the Pilot Plant or the Old Pilot Plant where the three engineers worked.
In changing the session times, legislators will be given a more equal opportunity and time to evaluate and better respond to issues. In the new change, legislators are now given more time than the regular 140-day sessions that used to be in place. When placed on the strict limitations of the regular sessions, there is much to get done which places a heavy workload on the legislators. During the nineteenth-century, being a legislator was considered a part time job, but with Texas population always steadily rising and modernization continuing to boom, a full-time commitment is needed to fulfill their duties correctly. Thousands of bills are introduced during the regular session all in the hopes of providing for a better Texas, yet 140-days is
Background: Waste water treatment plants are essential to communities of all sizes and must work efficiently. Waste water treatment plant primary priority and responsibility is the treatment of incoming sewage water by the removal of biological and chemical wastes so it can be treated and recycled for future use. There are many government agencies and standards set forth to govern and observe the successful treatment of sewage, such as the Department of Environmental Quality, the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System and the Clean Water Act of 1972. Compliance and constant monitoring of the treatment plant’s operations are important as they protect the surrounding community. A spill or backflow of sewage due to a complete system malfunction could potentially be detrimental to the environment and local community.

Traditional methods for cleaning up contaminated sites such as dig and haul, pump and treat, soil venting, air sparging and others are generally harmful to habitats. Some methods strip the soil of vital nutrients and microorganisms, so nothing can grow on the site, even if it has been decontaminated. Typically these mechanical methods are also very expensive. Most of the remediation technologies that are currently in use are very expensive, relatively inefficient and generate a lot of waste, to be disposed of.
