Intro: Have you ever heard of a book called Secrets of Bearhaven? If you have not you are missing out on one of the best books of the New Year. It is about a boy named Spencer that learns his parents work with intelligent bears but have been captured.
Genre: The genre of the story Secrets of Bearhaven is fiction because there are people smart enough to build translation devices for wild, untamed, ferocious bears. Another reason why Secrets of Bearhaven is fiction is because there is an entire area inhabited by only bears, which are near impossible.
Protagonists: The protagonists of Secrets of Bearhaven are Spencer, Uncle Charlie and B.D. B.D can be described as a gruff unhappy bear. Uncle Charlie can be described as a fun person who will

do anything to protect his family. Spencer can be described as a smart kid who can surprise others a lot mainly adults. The relation between these characters is that they are all key characters to the main plot. Another way these characters are related is that all three of them have skills that improve each other’s when used. Setting: The story Secrets of Bearhaven takes place in 3 places the Plain household, Bearhaven and Mcgrady’s farmhouse.
The most important place in the story is Bearhaven because the main parts of the story and some secondary take place in Bearhaven. The other settings in the story are less important because the Plain household is only used for about a 16th of the story and the Mcgrady farmhouse only has some of the main plot. Another reason why the other settings are unimportant is because, the plain household was only used as a starting point, and the Mcgrady farmhouse was only made to advance the …show more content…
story. Conflict: The main conflict of Secrets of Bearhaven is that Spencer, B.D and Uncle Charlie have to save a mother bear and her cubs. This is a problem because the bear population was running low, and Spencer’s parents were some of the only people in the world who were addressing the problem. Another reason why this is a problem is because, if the cubs and the mother bear were not saved … they would be used for bear baying, an event when a bear has to fight ferocious dogs right after having their claws and teeth painfully removed. Another reason why this is a problem is because the people who have captured the bears are ruthless, and will do anything for lots of cash. One last reason why solving the problem is important is because Spencer, B.D and Uncle Charlie are the only people in the world left helping Bears. Resolution: The resolution of the conflict of Secrets of Bearhaven is that Spencer, B.D and Uncle Charlie saved the mother bear and her cubs. There were 3 steps required to do this were, find out when the bear baying was happening, save the mother bear and cubs and lastly get back to Bearhaven as quickly as possible. Solving the problem was important because the mother bear and cubs would have been badly injured in the bear baying or worse. Another reason why solving the problem was important is because there were no other people in the area who didn’t want to help or didn’t even knew how to help. One last reason why solving the problem is important is because if the Bear Baying worked the Antagonists evil plans would advance to even worse levels. Theme: The theme of the story Secrets of Bearhaven was never underestimate small things. One reason why this is the theme is because Spencer was expected to stay in Bearhaven until things settled down. But Spencer trained with a local bear cub called Kate and got important skills that helped him sneak on the mission, and complete important parts of the mission. Another reason why never underestimate small things is the theme is because when spencer rescued the mother bears cubs thy helped him rescue their mother. One last reason why not underestimating small things is the theme is because Kate had helped Spencer sneak onto the mission. Connection: The book Secrets of Bearhaven reminds me of the time when I went fishing.
One day my father and grandpa went fishing but I wanted to go with them, but I had no experience, they would not teach me, and they were going to leave in 3 hours. Before trying to convince my father and grandfather again I talked to my mother and for some reason she knew how to fish so she taught me some basic skills. After the small training session there was about 5 minutes left and my father and grandfather were checking for any hideaways in the car. As they were doing a final check I sneaked in with a fishing rod and a cap and lay inside the car speechless. At the fishing spot, my father and grandfather unloaded their supplies and I fell onto the dirt floor, when they discovered I stowed away they were mad but I told my father and grandpa that I wanted to go fishing with them and they accepted my

Up until the final hunt, Billy and his hounds are successful. The conflict is tragically resolved when Billy’s best friend, Old Dan dies fighting the mountain lion, and Little Ann dies two days later. Billy’s family decides to follow their dream of moving closer to town for a better life. As fate would have it, the money from the Championship Coon Hunt is just enough. Billy visits the graves of his hounds to say good bye. It is here that Billy learns an important lesson about life and
...ks with Robert throughout the whole book is his sister and her care and love for animals.
The characters are impacted by the setting sharply because it both closes and opens possibilities as the story moves forward. At first, the setting is in Sylvan, South Carolina. The author describes Sylvan simply by stating, “…population 3,100. Peach stands and Baptist churches, that sums it up.” Clearly the setting here is not exactly note-worthy; however, quite a few events happen. Lily, the main character, lives with her father T-Ray and her opportunities are
This book has many different settings. The main setting of this book would be described as a small town. In this small town, it is very similar to Norton, Virginia. It is similar to Norton because everybody knows everyone and everyone knows about all the gossip right after it happens. The other settings include the party where Anna and Ellen drank before driving drunk. The crash site would be a significant setting in my opinion because it is where the most tragic event happened. I would conclude the hospital, where Ellen spent almost a month and Anna only spent a few days. I would also conclude Ellen’s
The setting in the story play a very important role in the story. The setting brings readers the understanding on where this story is taking place and how condition of that area. In forge it covers mostly on Valley Forge an area in Pennsylvania which is a military camp for the American Continental Army over the winter during 1777-1778 during the American Revolutionary War. This brief understanding speaks about Valley Forge gives readers the understanding on the setting of the story. Laurie Halse Anderson also forges the situation whereby the soldiers get inadequate food supply and were stuck eating firecake and hot pepper soup. The setting makes readers understand the story more because the setting also helps initiate the main backdrop and mood of the story. The setting in every story serves as the world of the story that gives half of the story.
As we approach our final year in junior high, our class was given the summer assignment to read and explore the message of Wolf Hollow by Lauren Wolk. Wolf Hollow takes place in 1943 with the point of view of a twelve year old girl named Annabelle, whose life took an abrupt turn. Annabelle lives with her parents, grandparents and Aunt At a young age Annabelle showed maturity as she was inexplicably bullied by Betty, the new girl. However while Annabelle quickly misjudged the capacity Betty would go to hurt her, she found herself growing a relationship with a “damaged man” named Toby. Annabelle was open minded and didn’t see Toby as the homeless, mental, war veteran that others think he is. However the with the guns he carries across his back
Whether the setting of a story is insignificant or important strictly depends on the way the author develops the time, place, atmosphere, and social context. In Faulkner’s “Barn Burning” and “A Rose for Emily” the setting becomes a huge contributor toward the overall mood and timeline of the stories. Faulkner wrote these two short stories in such a way that the audience feels like they’re living in that dusty old house or the farming community in rural Mississippi.
The story has different elements that make it a story, that make it whole. Setting is one of those elements. The book defines setting as “the context in which the action of the story occurs” (131). After reading “Soldier’s Home” by Ernest Hemmingway, setting played a very important part to this story. A different setting could possibly change the outcome or the mood of the story and here are some reasons why.
The book Wolf hollow is about a peaceful and steady girl living in a small Pennsylvania town named, Annabelle. She is growing up in between the ruins of two devastating world wars. The quiet and steady life is then
Cole is still lying on the ground, having been mauled by the bear, but he begins to become more aware of his surroundings. He sees a nest with sparrows, and a mother sparrow is feeding her children. Cole is angered by this kind of affection shown between mother and offspring, and he feels more alone and uncared for than ever. In the freezing rain, Cole craves the at.óow blanket, but he cannot reach it.During a nighttime thunderstorm, Cole again sights the Spirit Bear fifty feet away during a flash of lightning. In an instant, the bear disappears, but Cole fears that he will return to kill him. The storm continued to rage without the presence of the bear, and trees are split in two by lightning. The chapter ends with Cole realizing that the
Cold Mountain was Frazier's first novel and it won many awards. This novel was an international bestseller, and won the National Book Award in 1997. Frazier also wrote the novels Thirteen Moons in 2006, and Nightwoods in 2011. Nightwoods is his only book that does not take place during the civil war. Charles Frazier also received the North Carolina Award for literature in
The story is set in France, in the Jardins Publiques. The setting is important because it further illustrates how Miss Brill is out of place in her society. She is a foreigner in a strange land.
The setting or settings in a novel are often an important element in the work. Many novels use contrasting places such as cities or towns, to represent opposing forces or ideas that are central to the meaning of the work. In Thomas Hardy's novel, Tess of the d'Urbervilles, the contrasting settings of Talbothays Dairy and Flintcomb-Ash represent the opposing forces of good and evil in Tess' life.
The setting is the backbone for a novel it sets the tone and gives the reader a mental image of the time and places the story takes place. The Wuthering Heights Estate in Emily Bronte’s novel “Wuthering Heights” is one of the most important settings in the story. Wuthering Heights sets mood for the scenes taken place in the house, and reflects the life of Heathcliff through its description, furniture, windows, gates, and the vegetation.
It was the last Saturday in December of 1997. My brother, sister, and I were chasing after each other throughout the house. As we were running, our parents told us to come and sit down in the living room. They had to tell us something. So, we all went down stairs wondering what was going on. Once we all got down stairs, the three of us got onto the couch. Then, my mom said, “ Well…”
