A pedophile is someone who has a sexual interest in children (Pedophile, 2014). Some pedophiles are satisfied with fantasizing about children or just looking at child pornography. Others aren’t satisfied until they have victimized an innocent child these monsters are into pedophilia which is sexual feelings and activities that involve children (Pedophilia, 2014).
The typical profile of a predatory pedophile is an adult male who is at least sixteen (16) years old who spends a minimum of six (6) months fantasizing, experiencing sexual fixation, or sexual activities with preadolescent child (Knetzger, 2008). These fixations, fantasies, and will be the cause of issues in the pedophile’s personal life, public life, job, or other important area. The pedophile could have been arrested, divorced, or anything that has a negative impact on their life. The victim must be a minimum of five (5) years younger than the pedophile (Knetzger, 2008).

The secretive pedophile is the individual that usually will never act out their fantasies in any way other than self gratification looking at child porn. These individuals are usually married and have kids of their own. Child pornography collectors are avid collectors who use this pornography for self gratification. They also trade videos and/or images with other pedophiles. Most of these pedophiles will never physically victimize a child. They victimize the child every time they view the material, share it, or get self gratification. The active pedophile is every parent and child’s worst nightmare. These pedophiles are the ones who are molesting children, raping them, taking images and pictures and sharing them. They create the pornography (Knetzger, 2008). They steal the innocence of the children. This is something that can never be regained or given
When a late adolescent or adult is primarily or exclusively attracted to a minor child sexually they become diagnosed with the psychiatric disorder pedophilia. Mostly a person is not diagnosed with this disorder unless they have had this attraction for six months or longer. This attraction can be in the form of fantasies which are sexually arousing to the perpetrator, or the urge to engage in sexual activities with a minor child. In addition, in order to be diagnosed the molester will have to have acted on these urges or suffered from some type of distress, which will be result from having these feelings. Also the molester should be at least sixteen years old with the victim being younger than them by a minimum of five years.
Our text describes pedophilia as a person who “gains sexual gratification by watching, touching, or engaging in sexual acts with prepubescent children, usually 13 years old or younger” (Comer, 2013, p. 411). The movie, The Woodsman describes the story of a convicted sex offender recently released from prison. Walter, depicted by Kevin Bacon shed some insight into the motivations and thought processes that a sex offender, specifically a pedophile might have.
“...an individual with [pedophilia] has the same ingrained attraction that a heterosexual female may feel towards a male, or a homosexual feels towards their same gender.” (Johnston, Pg. 1). Pedophilia - “the fantasy or act of sexual activity with children who are generally age 13 years or younger” (American Psychiatric Association, p.1) - a word that holds multiple negative connotations, is often seen as aberrant thought process or behavior, and is under debate as to whether or not it’s a sexual orientation. But can it be considered a sexual orientation? As a member of the LGBT community, this issue has surfaced among us and shocked the majority.
A pervert is not always just sexually molesting children but also women and men in their mature ages. Most guilty pedofiles claim they rape children and individuals because they are afraid of rejection of individuals their own age so they resort to an easily attainable human being (McLeod). Therapy to try and curve the direction of pedofiles sexual needs can help them cope with their abnormal sex drive and mental imperative. Some children experience a situation with their own father. It is actually common for a daughter’s father to rape her starting at a young age. A young woman by the name of Fran Henry, experienced sexual abuse by her own father (“Shedding Light”). She spoke out against child molesting and wanted to create a helpline for those who were victimized or the rapists themselves. Henry stated, “The abuse I suffered was egregious and affected every aspect of my life. But as an adult, I confronted my father. I realized that what I really wanted was not to see him in jail but to make it less likely to see other children suffer from what I had.” The importance of growing up in today’s society and being educated about sexual abuse is an important aspect of knowledge everyone should have. Many parents also do not recognize the warning signs from their children early on to
Before moving far we must understand the meaning of a pervert and a predator. According to the online dictionary the term sexual predator is used to describe a “person seen as obtaining or trying to obtain sexual contact with another person in a metaphorically ‘predatory’ manner.” A pervert is defined as “a person whose sexual behavior is regarded as abnormal and unacceptable.”
Finkelhor´s precondition model (1984) is widely recognized in the literature as a groundbreaking theory in the fact that it represents the first attempt at incorporating multi-factorial explanations to account for sexual offending against children (Howell, 1994; Marshal, 1996; Ward & Hudson, 1998). Finkelhor (1984) argues that child molestation is a complex phenomena caused by a variety of psychological, sociological and cultural factors. In order to explain differences within perpetrators as well as situational aspects of the offence, Finkelhor (1984) proposes four preconditions that need to bee met in ...
Also note that I am using the term ‘child molester’ almost exclusively. This is because there is a difference between a pedophile and a child molester. Pedophilia is a psychological disorder in which a sexually mature adult is attracted, either preferentially or exclusively, to pre-pubescent childr...
When one hears the label “sex offender” it is associated with a negative stigma. Society has reinforced the label while encouraging individuals to associate a profile to the offender. Typical words that are connected to a sex offender may include monster, horrific, heinous, and sickening. When conceptualizing the victim, some associations made could include words such as rape, molestation, women, or even juvenile. Typically, when society hears the word juvenile being associated to a sex offense, it is assumed that the juvenile is the victim. Though this is true in some cases, there is an increasing number of sex offenses being committed by juvenile offenders. According to the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS), “juvenile sex offenders comprise more than one-quarter (25.8%) of all sex offenders and more than one-third (35.6%) of sex offenders against juvenile victims” (Finkelhor, D., Ormrod, R., & Chaffin, M., 2009, p. 1). The following report will examine sex offenses committed by male juveniles. The report will include characteristics of the type of crime, crime factors, an application of the biosocial theory, and the strengths and limits presented by the theory.
Pedophilia is a medical diagnosis, which is defined as a psychiatric disorder in adults or older adolescents, ranging from ages 16 and older. Pedophilia is characterized by a primary or exclusive sexual interest in prepubescent children, unusually ages 13 and under. The victim of a pedophile is usually at least five years younger in the case of adolescent pedophiles. The word pedophilia derives from the Greek word: παῖς (paîs), meaning "child," and φιλία (philla) meaning "friendly love" or "friendship. This literal meaning has been altered toward sexual attraction in modern times, under the titles "child love" or "child lover," by pedophiles who uses symbols and codes to identify their preferences.
What causes them to want to pursue inappropriate relationships with children or forces themselves upon another? The answers to these questions are simple: it varies. Each person is different from the next, meaning whatever led them to committing whatever sexual crime they committed could differ greatly. One this to note is that it is impossible to say that only one factor contributes to creating a sex offender. It must be some form of combination of the biopsychosocial approach.
There are many topics nowadays that are still hard to talk about openly. Though we’ve opened the door on many controversies, some of the simplest parts of life can be the hardest to discuss. For most of us, sex in particular can be a taboo topic, which may be the reason why so many children and teens are misinformed on the inner workings of sexual relationships and how they develop as we grow and mature. For some adolescents, this can lead to an unhealthy fixation on the concept of sex, and in some cases, lead them to take action on a situation they do not fully understand. Sexual offenses are perceived as some of the most heinous crimes, but how could our views be affected if those acts were performed by a teenager? We may sometimes consider that they are the same as adult sex offenders; however our judgment can often be clouded by our lack of understanding. Adolescent sex offenders are different from adult sex offenders, are treated in a different way, and often have very different circumstances of their crime.
Are we bothered by the fact that in the current social climate, the rights of convicted pedophiles are routinely violated and nobody cares. Rules of evidence are stretched, and terms of punishment are increased. The danger of this precedent is impossible to ignore.
Pedophilia is defined as “an ongoing sexual attraction toward prepubescent children” (Tenbergen et al., 2015, p. 1). People with pedophilia are often described as a dangerous criminal. People among this category were considered as a category of offenders, by the criminal justice system, among the highest priority for the system to manage and maintain (Lynch, 2002). The differing views between psychologists and the criminal justice system has been a long drawn out debate. Pedophilia is considered a disorder in the DSM V, but by the criminal justice system it is viewed as one of the worst crimes a human being could commit, needing the most severe punishment.
Throughout human history, evidence can be found of religion. Whether the evidence has been lost to time or is shown in museums, the evidence exists, the beginnings of the United States of America is no exception to the impacts of religion. In Of Plymouth Plantation by William Bradford, mentions of “god” are not uncommon. Near the beginning, in the section labeled September 6, the author states, “They fell upon their knees and blessed the God of Heaven” (Bradford). This is said after the Mayflower landed in North America.
Throughout the world, the protection of children is the main priority. When it comes to the United States, pedophiles are recognized as a threat to the wellbeing of kids of ages of 13 and under. Pedophilia is a mental disorder that can be treated; however, there is no cure for it. This means that pedophiles could be aided in a manner that protects both the pedophile and the youth. In the United States pedophilia is viewed more as a criminal case than a mental disorder resulting in criminal cases of pedophilia not decreasing and the endangerment of the pedophile and their mental health.
