The movie Secretariat is a film based on the story of one of the most highly regarded race horses in modern history. The movie gives an accurate representation of the horseracing industry. The movie starts with Penny Chenery taking over her sick father’s horse stables in Virginia. She isn’t very familiar with the sport of horseracing but is ready to try. At her mother’s funeral Penny is told by brother that the current trainer was going to make a deal behind her back. She fires him and with the help of a family friend hires Lucien Laurin. After going through with a

Penny Chenery is the owner of the horse and is charge of getting the horse into races to compete. One of the most important people in a racehorse team is the trainer. The trainer, in this case Lucien Laurin, is responsible for deciding the horses diet and feeding schedule, exercise regimen, grooming techniques and general care. The jockey, Ron Turcotte, is the person who rides the horse in races and exercise. Horses that win races are awarded money prizes based on how well they finish. The industry is very large and can get complicated when it comes to the betting and gambling side of horseracing.
The horse in Secretariat is very obedient to its trainer and jockey. Racehorses are trained to listen from a very young age. The people who handle the horse are very gentle and calm around the horse. The horse is very comfortable around them and trusts them as a dog trusts its owner. Behaviors like responding to movements of the bit in the mouth are taught to horses while different gaits like trot, canter and gallop are naturally learned by horses. The training methods in the movie can be applied to most racehorses as the goal is the same, to be
Once you get them to settle down and get there mind focused on just walking and the rider then you know the bond with the rider and horse are strong. When it is time for the second run of the night you want to warm them up again but not as hard this time because he or she has already been warmed up once before this, so just a little warming up won’t hurt. When it is that time for the second run the rider will bring the horse him a set him or her up for their first barrel and make the most of the race. If you see the rider smiling then everyone knows she has done her job with this horse. The rider can make an automatic barrel horse where that horse know his job and she barely has to ask the horse for a turn or touch his face to go around that barrel. When the rider gets a horse to be like that everyone can tell they spent hours and days together. The rider worked with that horse but never made him sour or hate coming into the arena. They spent time working on flexing the horse and making sure he knew when to tuck his nose and leave it for an extra second. They will all see when they are running home how much they spend time they spend together if they are fast and smooth through the pattern and don’t have any blow ups before or after coming in and out of the arena. After the race is over and the announcer say who
Horses are the most noticeable symbol in the whole book. Horses are a necessity to the boys. The horses are political and economic assets to Grady, Rawlins and Blevins. Specifically for John Grady, horses are more important to him than humans. He constantly dreams of him running with horses and always

(McKeen 149) The Kentucky Derby is a horse race that
The racing of horses in Ireland is as old as the nation itself. In the pre-Christian era we have evidence that the Red Branch Knights raced among themselves, matching their horses against each other, as did the Fianna warriors in the third century A.D. Racing today is huge in the country for our employment and for our economy. Racing in the early days struggled without a governing body and without a proper structure. This all seemed to change once the Jockey Club was formed on the idea of the English Jockey in Newmarket. However, the Jockey failed as money issues and other problems led to its demise. This essay aims to examine firstly the impact of the English Jockey Club in Ireland, secondly why the Jockey Club failed, and third the rise of the Turf Club and the procedures taken to make it a success.

Jack had heard about this wild horse race and he knew about the cash prize. Back at home it was only his wife, 3 year old daughter, and himself. He spent everyday working in the fields
“I’ve never been on a baseball field, if I did, the kids in my neighborhood would spit loogies on my forehead.” (Clark Reedy, benchwarmers) Clark is one of the main antagonist in the movie “Benchwarmers” along with a few other nerds. This movie shows that no matter if any person is popular their dreams can still be full filled. I highly recommend this movie to all because it's enjoyable to watch and shows how the importance of real friendship. “Benchwarmers” shows the difference between Gus Mathews, Richie Goodman, Clark reedy, and Mel Carmichael.
The story of a young British man named Albert and his horse, Joey, will take you on a roller coaster of emotions as they are separated before heading off to serve in World War II. It not only takes you through the struggles and agony that the soldiers faced, but it also shows the hardships the horses were put through. War Horse is full of suspense and emotional resonance and is one of the greatest movies I have ever seen.
Anne spoke of some of her experiences and in them most of the women included were all aspiring to be professional jockeys and illustrated how difficult it is for females to break through the gender barriers in the industry but Anne’s story was different. Anne went through situations where instead of being celebrated for any of her achievements was made a joke of and accused of not being able to actually accomplish anything so she must be sleeping with her boss. She was also given situations in which were meant to make her fail, though Anne was able to overcome these things and create something good. For example, Anne was given a horse that was known as being a little wild. No one was able to keep this horse still and she would usually tear off. Anne says,’ I started off at the back and ended up at the front, and then did a couple of circuits. Anyway I thought that was it, I’m gonna get sacked ... but anyway, Bob Henbury [the trainer] came up laughing and said “that’s the best she’s ever gone” and then every work day they used to put me on her and of course I didn’t have a clue what I was doing and I was actually trying to hold her and she was running off with me and of course she was actually doing a bit of work.” From then on Anne was the only “lad” able to handle that horse, showing her trainer just how valuable she was. Anne was eventually excepted as a woman in a “man’s” world
Contrary to the story’s focus on horses, the movie focuses on the romance between John Grady and Alejandra as its poster has the couple with a greater presence compared to the miniscule graphic of horses shoved on the bottom; whereas the book’s cover is graced with the image of a horse and only of that horse. Of all the events that were absent from the movie, the romance scenes are the most kept intact as well as an odd addition of an onlooker dancing when John Grady finishes talking with Alejandra on the phone after being bailed out of jail. In fact, it feels like horses are more of an afterthought in this adaptation because John Grady does not put any emphasis on them as he does in the novel. While in jail, John Grady had a dream about horses, “… in the dream he was among the horses running and in the dream he himself could run with the horses …” (McCarthy 161) In the fashion of flickering images for a subliminal message, brief, flashing visions of Alejandra are injected into this dream when there were none. Romance is pushed as the main focus of the story, but it fails to make the couple fulfilling since the dynamic between John Grady and Alejandra is not developed well enough to make it
The quote,”Some horses buck you off. Some horses spook you off—they see something scary and drop a shoulder and spin and run away. Some horses stop all of a sudden, and there you are, head over heels and sitting on the ground.” shows how this girl really doesn't like some horses as they don't ride nicely. This develops the characters for the horses as now the reader perceives these horses as bad, since they were so badly conceived by her. If this was in the horse's point of view, they may say that she is the problem and it would develop the girl as the problem character. In the quote,” I had one a year ago, a sweet boy mare...I rode her every day, and she never put a foot wrong. Her lope was as easy as flying. One of the days she was with us, I had a twenty-four-hour virus, so when I went out to ride, I tacked her up and took her down to the creek at the bottom of the pasture, out of sight of the house...I lay down in the grass and fell asleep. I knew she would graze, and she did for a while, I suppose. But when I woke up (and feeling much better, thank you), there she was, curled up next to me like a dog, kind of pressed against me but sweet and large and soft.”, the reader can really see how much she loves this particular horse. This horse is developed as a very nice and calm character from the way she describes him. If this was written in the point of
The story "The Rocking-Horse Winner" written by D. H. Lawrence tells of a young boy named Paul who tries to win his mother's affection by giving her that which she seems to want more than anything else, MONEY. The house in which the family lives is haunted by a voice that speaks the phrase, "There must be more money!" Everyone in the house can hear the voice but nobody ever acknowledges it. Paul and the family gardener, Bassett, begin to talk about horse races one day and they soon begin to bet on them. Paul's uncle, Oscar, learns of this and becomes a partner with Paul and Bassett. They are quite successful in their endeavor, because Paul is the one who chooses the horses that they bet on. They always seem to win. He goes about finding the winner by riding his rocking horse until the name of the winning horse becomes clear in his head. This method has never the team. Paul decides to give his mother, Hester, 5,000 pounds of his winnings, which is to be paid out one thousand pounds at a time on her birthday for the next five years. While Paul was trying to figure out the winner of the Derby, his mother went to check on him because she had heard a strange noise coming from his room. She opened the door and saw Paul rocking his horse like a madman. Paul screamed, "It's Malabar! It's Malabar!" and then collapsed onto the floor. Paul died a few nights later. This is obviously a story about family and the feelings of shame that we acquire from our parents that could have disastrous consequences for the whole family as was the case with Paul's. We will look at Paul's mother's obsession with money, Paul's plan to please his mother, and the price the family paid for wanting more money.
This movie starts off as Jordan Belfort, the main character in the movie, losing his job as a stockbroker in Wall Street. After losing his job, he goes and gets a job in a Long Island brokerage room. In the brokerage room, he sells penny stocks. Thanks to him being aggressive in his selling skills, he was able to make a profit. With the new income, he gives his wife a bracelet and she asked him why doesn’t he go after the people that can afford to lose money, not the middle-class people or lower income people. That is when he gets the idea to get a lot of young people and train them to become the best stock brokers.
