The two short stories I chose to compare and contrast are “The Secret Lion” by Alberto Alvaro Rios and “The Man in the Well” by Ira Sher. While reading the two short stories; I realized that they differ from each other in certain ways, but they also have similar characteristics. For example, both short sorties were written in first person point of view. However, “The Secret Lion” contains symbolism, and we can not find symbolism on “The Man in the Well”.

In the novel, “In the Skin of a Lion,” by Michael Ondaatje, the main character, Patrick Lewis, searches for identity and light. Without these elements, he lacks love and cannot survive the world. A passage in chapter three describes him as a lonely man that is isolated from the world around him. “Clara and Ambrose and Alice and Temelcoff and Cato- this cluster made up a drama without him. And he himself was noting but a prism that refracted their lives. He searched out things, he collected things. He was an abashed man, an inheritance from his father. Born in Abashed, Ontario. What did the word mean? Something that suggested there was a terrible horizon in him beyond which he couldn’t leap. Something hollow, so when alone, when not aligned with another- whether it was Ambrose or Clara or Alice- he could hear the rattle within that suggested a space between him and community. A gap of love,” (Ondaatje, pg.157) suggests his feelings of separation from his close companions.
The raid was set for the day of October 3, 1993. It was a simple plan that involved the soldiers capturing the lieutenants. They would have four Black Hawk helicopters go in and surround the building. They would drop the Rangers and the Delta Force soldier...
Today’s source for most entertainment does not derive from the classic forms of literature and entertainment, today’s youth find solace in more relatable aspects through any medium. The only way youth would really grasp prior literary bounty would be through cameos and modernized versions of the latter. In 1994 Walt Disney released their most renown animated film ever with “The Lion King”. Having zero comparable traits with all forms of entertainment at the time, the way it was produced and created put it at the top of the entertainment food chain. Through utilization of animation “The Lion King” was able to recreate “Hamlet” a story of blood lust, deceit, and death. But alas, this theme is not of new nature, and is no stranger to one of the best writers to have graced the world with his presence. This Disney trademark work replicates that of “Hamlet”, the film was done so precisely that the main characters are of equal repute in both stories, the film re imagines ideally the message Shakespeare attempted to convery with his work. While in contrast when one watches the movie the Gladiator, one notices the obvious comparison to Shakespeare Hamlet. In Gladiator the main character seeks vengeance for the loss of his son and wife, as does hamlet for his father. In short summation the tragedies throughout both tales replicate one another in very dramatic fashion.

“We were born, To be real, Not to be perfect.” an anonymous person once said. The quote is a perfect example that reflects the Tom Leopard. Tom Leopard has tattooed his body from head to toe. According from the article The Sociology of the Leopard Man by Logan Feys “According to the Guinness Book of World Records he is the most tattooed man. He is, according to society, a freak.” But the amazing part of Tom Leopard is that he is himself. He doesn’t life for other people’s reaction, and so should people. Reasons why we were born to be real and not perfect is because, firstly being perfect doesn’t exactly mean changing who you are. The second reason why, you could feel many emotions and one of them could be not feeling content with yourself.
The Lion is one of the most powerful and fearless animals in the entirety of the universe. It kills anything ruthlessly and without mercy, some even kill their own young. If it wasn’t obvious, the Lion’s mind is very different compared to ours to the language they speak to what they think and feel, but maybe some Lions are not the ones we see in the zoo. Just like how some monsters are not the ones under the bed, maybe the true Lions are the people walking around on two feet. What if they have the face of a man or woman? What if they are the ones seen on the news for the horrific actions they have committed? What if the Lion is the person children are taught to prepare for and be terrified of? What if the Lion is the true fear of all parents?
Billy stared out the window at the night sky. The moon slightly hidden behind the clouds. One constellation caught his eye. Orian holding his mighty sword ready to strike down on the lion. ‘I must be the lion’ Billy thought to himself and closed his eyes for his final
You didn’t really think that they would name the movie Secondhand Lions and not put a lion it, did you? Oh yes, Hub and Garth order a used circus lion that ends up being Walter’s pet. The lion serves as more than just a pet, though, she teaches Walter some very important lessons throughout the movie. This film is the complete package. Even though it is crazy, has several different stories, and never stays at the same pace it is one of the best movies that you will ever see. All of the aspects of the movie tie together and make perfect sense by the end. If you haven’t already seen this fantastically unique movie, then you need to get your hands on it as soon as possible. I promise you won’t regret
Lions are a crucial part of the ecosystem in Africa where they are located. There has been a decrease in the population of African lions which has caused concerned to try and enact a treaty or law of some sort to preserve this “King of the Jungle”. I think it’s good that they are trying to push for this kind of thing, last year when a lion was killed as a trophy, Cecil, a lot of concern rose from just that particular situation, which is good and bad at the same time. It’s good because everyone now knows that there is a problem with the population of lions in African which make more want to donate or volunteer to help increase and preserve the population of lions that remain. The bad thing is that no one noticed that the population was already
Michael Ondaatje's In the Skin of a Lion is an example of a novel where history is re imagined and characters who in life have been forgotten, can find their place. It is a story of those whose own personal narratives played an important role in telling Canada’s own history. Focusing on those who got lost in the historical records and paying tribute to these whose stories usually would not be heard. These are characters that shape the city, yet are only mentioned throughout history in passing, yet they do most of the work. Through these background characters, Ondaatje can tell the story of an industrializing Toronto, while at the same time, can rewrite the official history of Toronto's infrastructure and bring attention to those who built it. Ondaatje
