Seeing Seaworld The concept of ‘Seaworld’ began in 1960 when the idea to create an underwater restaurant was deemed unfeasible, the focus then shifted to creating a marine zoo. 50 years on Seaworld’s mission statement is to “ inspire guests through education and up-close experiences and to care for and protect animals’. However, Seaworld’s customer numbers have been steadily decreasing from 5.35 million in 2012 to 4.979 million in 2014 (jh,201). This decrease was largely a flow-on effect from the public outrage following the release of the 2013 film ‘Blackfish’. To prevent any further market erosion we have focused our efforts to effectively utilising Seaworld’s online social media presence. This proposal is directed to Seaworld’s Chief Creative officer, Scott D Helmstedter. Firstly, we will look at Seaworld’s current online presences, their key competitors online activities as well as a look into the mind of a Seaworld social media consumer. Secondly, we will use these insights to derive a market research problem from Seaworld’s social media management problem. Thirdly, we will develop an approach to Seaworld’ market research …show more content…
The most memorable campaign in their eyes was when Seaworld posted ‘live’ snippets of an orca show from the front row of the stadium on Instagram. I asked about Blackfish and while the respondent was disheartened while watching the film they would still go to Seaworld because “you’re guaranteed to see an orca”. When asked on their thoughts on Blackfish the respondent expanded on the fact that they felt that Seaworld’s response to the film seems to attract more attention than the film itself. The respondent says that they often see a string of comments following a Seaworld reply to a customer complaint whenever they are on their twitter
Thesis Statement: Closing SeaWorld’s doors would be unjust, however; SeaWorld can repair its image by providing excellent care for its current residents and by shifting the business model from entertainment to rescue, rehabilitate and release at all locations.
Seaworld is a giant marine life theme park. The greatest attraction to these many theme park would be those killer whales. In fact, these killer whales are the face of the park. As gigant as these mammals are, seaworld is keeping them in some pretty tight quarters. Mr. Jett and Mr.Ventre says “Wild killer whales can swim a hundred miles daily as they socialize, forage, communicate, and breed. In stark contrast, with little horizontal or vertical space in their enclosures, captive orcas swim only limited distances, with most spending many hours surface resting.” The animals don't have the freedom they need. Also when taking the whales out of their natural habit the whales tend to be depressed and not as heath in that situation. They need their freedom in the big ocean blue. Bring them into the small living units, breeding whales in captivity all for the entertainment of humans. At young ages the calves are taken away from their mothers on to a new seaworld park. Mothers of the calves have even been seen denying their offspring.
I am sure almost all of you have either been to or heard of SeaWorld. Today I am going to tell you about what they do to their orcas that they are trying to hide. I chose this topic after watching a documentary called “Blackfish” that goes into the behind the scenes of how SeaWorld treats its animals. I have since done further research online to prepare for this presentation. This is an important topic because you should know what kind of company you are funding and behaviors you are endorsing when you go on your vacations to this destination. Today I am going to persuade you that SeaWorld is corrupt and maltreats its animals, specifically the orcas. First, I will talk about the specific way the orcas are treated and how it affects them
It all began with good intentions. People thinking that they can control these animals and not expect any negative impacts. It was all due to wanting to explore and entertain with the animals. However, not all animals are meant to be taken from the wild to be show animals. After many years of unfair ways, SeaWorld is doing the right thing by closing down the whale exhibit even if it isn’t by choice because it is unhealthy for both the humans and animals involved.
Blackfish is a 2013 documentary attempting to elevate public awareness regarding the orca that are being kept in maritime amusement parks, specifically SeaWorld, and the inherent danger of their captivity. The film is effective because it raises a set of important ethical questions for the viewer while presenting with a necessary fact-based style of documentation that does not evoke gratuitous scenes of abuse in order to inspire sympathy, unlike some of the other films that are intended to raise awareness about animal abuse.
The fact that the animals in Seaworld are depressed and angered means that kids are going to see animals not only in an unnatural state. Unfortunately, they will also have the potential to see aggressive Orcas. Children are going to absolutely terrified by these animals when they are actually very calm. Peaceful animals. Plus, the facts that Seaworld gives their guests about all the animals are downright false! If we were going to compare Seaworld to anything, then I would compare it to a judge sentencing an innocent man to life in prison. Places like this truly show us that mankind is downright evil! Now, let's look back, what are our kids truly learning
711 million people a year sponsor the act of kidnapping, torture, and starvation around the world. If you’ve ever been to a zoo, aquarium or a Seaworld park, you’re one of those 711 million people. Lately, controversy has struck the world over the treatment of animals in those types of facilities. There are many good rehabilitation centers in zoos worldwide that help injured, endangered or ill animals, which is why a lot of people do support them. However, there is a darker side to these parks and facilities. These animals cruel pasts and hidden lives will never be heard unless we help. Help them escape their tortured lives, and see their families they were ripped from when they were only babies. Be the voice of the voiceless and shut down
Family therapy is often needed when families go through transitions such as separations between parents and divorce. According to research, “the power of family therapy derives from bringing parents and children together to transform their interactions” (Nichols, & Davis, p.18), as problems need to be addressed at their source. The children who are the most vulnerable, when parents decide to separate, exhibit symptoms which are exaggerations of their parent’s problems (Nichols, & Davis, p.18). Frank and Walt Berkman are the examples of how children cope and adapt to the stressors of family separations such as marital separations and
Perhaps the most visible and obvious structural issue revolves around the aquarium's mission statement and goals. As noted in the case study, the original mission statement "make known the world of water through education, research, and exhibition" concentrates on its goal to bring sea life to the community. The new mission statement saw the aquarium as a "responsive community resource that attracts the broadest possible audience delivering highest quality experience" and as "a culturally diverse staff."
The Sea Shepherds are group of volunteers who try to protect the sea animals, and capture criminals who kill the animals without permits. Their website has many purposes, one dedicate to collect donations from the reader. Furthermore, they want to protect the ocean wildlife. The website audience includes people who want to protect the ocean, and they want to save the sea animals which will likely be extinct. They offer the audience a chance to donate, volunteer, and stay up to date with ongoing issues involving marine life. This website is outstanding because the sea shepherds host a successful website that effectively reaches out to the audience through appealing to the reader's emotions, logic, and credibility.
For 50 years SeaWorld has entertained park guests with numerous stunts involving the majestic sea creature, the orca, also referred to as the killer whale, and their human trainers. What the on-lookers don’t see at these shows is what goes on behind the scenes: how the whales got there in the first place, and the conditions in which they are housed.
"Hey mom!" "Yes, my dear?" "It's starting to look like that Orca wants to drown its trainer." "Oh no sweetie. It's just your imagination." But what if it's not?
Well, Never Mind.” by Kevin Roose. Roose stated in his article that, “SeaWorld 's stock is plummeting more than 20 percent today, after quarterly earnings that showed shrinking revenue and lowered guidance for next quarter.” (Roose). However, this is only a small victory. When everything is put into perspective, one can see that the decrease in SeaWorld’s attendance record is only one business that is suffering from the story of Blackfish. There are many more corporations in the world that are keeping orcas in captivity simply for the money from the shows. The effects of the movie, Blackfish, on this corporation is just a drop in the proverbial ocean when it is compared to all of the establishments in the world that keep orcas in captivity. There are many other establishments that still need to be investigated and possibly even shut down due to the mistreatment of these large
In addition, discussed Coke’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats, and potential ethical issues. While there are a number of challenges that Coca-Cola could face with using social media, they have actually used social media to their advantage. They also understand the ethical responsibility one must have if a company uses social media to advertise its products. Coca- Cola’s social media presence and engagement with the consumer grows daily. As long as Coca-Cola is committed to evolving with the consumer’s ever changing attitudes towards beverage’s it will insure that it will probably remain a top-tier beverage provider for years to
Among the billions of social media users, there is a percentage dedicated to businesses who use social media as part of their marketing strategy. The sheer number of people who use services like Facebook and Instagram on a daily
