Genetic Screening is a medical test that examines ones DNA. It can find mutations in chromosomes, genes, and proteins. These tests can confirm or refute a suspected genetic condition that could become a serious problem for one in the future. They can also help figure out a persons probability of getting certain diseases or sicknesses like cancer or diabetes. To receive Genetic Screening is not required. Due to the fact that there are benefits but also risks, testing is voluntary. There are pros on cons to Genetic Screening that can be researched for people who are deciding whether or not they want to go forth with the testing.
There are many benefits one will receive when undergoing a Genetic Screening. These consist of becoming aware of diseases or genetic disorders that one may inherit from their parents before actually being diagnosed with the disease. If a possibility of a disease is caught early enough, doctors can prescribe medicine and ask one to change different things in their lifestyle and hopefully the disease will be eliminated and they will have a better chance of survival. It's great for people who come from families with a common disease because there is a chance that genetic screening will inform them whether or not they have that disease. Unfortunately, the outcome is not 100% accurate. Therefore, the results aren't always necessarily true.
