Adam Experiences The American Dream can have many various meanings to individual background and life styles experiences. However, most people in America, dream of having a career, a home, and transportation. In the novel Scratch Beginnings by Adam Shepard the author had people to encourage him, use or abuse him, and even develop a special relationship with him as well along his journey of his project. To begin with, Adam had to learn by experience. He came across many different people along the way. Such as drunk lady he met on the side of the road when he first came to church. Relations between Adam and the homeless people from the shelter became deep. For example, he learned from Easy E for a cheaper way for him to save money for his laundry. Which was by him washing his clothes in the shower with soap and let dry after. He was able to learn from other people as well along the way. Such as, Sergeant Mendoza who is also known as “Sarge”; was trying to always give Adam good advice. Especially, mostly when he first came to the shelter. That really stood out to him. Later, He was able to learn ways of life and how people had to make it to live during their time in the shelter. He came across people that helped him understand ways of the real American Dream and its purpose. He finally understood reasons for his project. In conclusion, Adam experience prepared him for real life. He was able to learn from things he couldn't quite understand from the beginning of the story. He learned new techniques of ways of how to earn money and have a better of living for himself. He had to understand the true meaning of change. He started out with nothing to end up with something at the end. It really helped Adam to grow and understand things much better from
