Artificial Intelligence – Hype or Hope?
Preamble:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is omnipresent in the media as well as in business meetings. Because of this, everyone wants to do something with AI, but it appears few seem to know what it really is and how to make it profitable in a business scenario.
Body Copy:
Imagine you’re waiting for Monday morning’s meeting to be kicked off by your new colleague, who no one has yet met but who already has ‘The Brain’ as a nickname. The door opens and a friendly greeting robot enters.
Even though such a situation may well occur one day, the aim of this article is to shed light on the term ‘Artificial Intelligence’, or ‘AI’, and take a short look at its history. It then tackles the scope of the

The two levels of AI
It is important to stress there are two levels of AI: ‘weak’ or ‘narrow’ AI which focusses on one narrow task, and ‘strong’ or ‘general’ AI intelligence that could successfully perform any intellectual task that a human being can. The latter is generally considered to be still a long time away. As the focus of this article will mainly be short to midterm business scenarios, here mainly, the first category will be relevant.
Making AI work for businesses
Before addressing the most relevant question for any business, how does AI pay off, there are some general aspects to consider:
First, AI shouldn’t be thought of as a feature that is simply added to a requirement list. If AI doesn’t add value to the business, it’s barely worth it. In other words, it’s vital to define a relevant use case. A further requirement is the data needed to feed AI and how to administrate it (cloud or local, third party solution or creation of an own ecosystem). Then, staff needs to be trained accordingly and company culture adjusted to embrace this change – something which will also be reflected in the organizational
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of the newest fields in Science and Engineering. Work started in earnest soon after World War II, and the name itself was coined in 1956 by John McCarthy. Artificial Intelligence is an art of creating machines that perform functions that require intelligence when performed by people [Kurzweil, 1990]. It encompasses a huge variety of subfields, ranging from general (learning and perception) to the specific, such as playing chess, proving mathematical theorems, writing poetry, driving a car on the crowded street, and diagnosing diseases. Artificial Intelligence is relevant to any intellectual task; it is truly a Universal field. In future, intelligent machines will replace or enhance human’s capabilities in
If a machine passes the test, then it is clear that for many ordinary people it would be a sufficient reason to say that that is a thinking machine. And, in fact, since it is able to conversate with a human and to actually fool him and convince him that the machine is human, this would seem t...
The concept of Multiple Intelligences has come out after Howard Gardner redefined intelligence. According to Gardner’s theory, human beings have different types of intelligence and based on their respective intelligence types, human beings have different skills in different areas. Human beings can be more successful and productive on areas they are skillful. Therefore, choosing appropriate professions, in accordance with one’s intelligence type, is important for individuals as well as for the society. This study aims to develop a technique to help high school students in the profession selection process using artificial intelligence. Questionnaire has been utilized as the research method and the data have been analyzed via Fuzzy Logic Toolbox which is subunit of the software called MATLAB. It was aimed to direct students to appropriate profession and build more successful and productive professions.
What are the ethics of Artificial Intelligence (A.I.)? Many people see different sides regarding this issue. One side sees is that A.I. will be the downfall of humanity, while the other sees an upgrade for humanity. However, these are merely situations that are can be unethical. People have been discussing about this topic a lot and some ethical concerns that will be humanoid robots and robots taking over the work industry. Ethics is according to Britannica (2015) is the “discipline concerned with what is morally good and bad, right and wrong.” This paper examines some of the ethical issues and sides that is happening because of (A.I.)
During the year 2014, Siri had a brain transplant (Levy, 2016). Apple was known as the first professional technology company that linked or integrated smart assistant into the operating system in the earlier years. Meanwhile, in the year 2010, Siri became the company’s adaptation of a standalone app it had purchased, along with the team that created it (Levy, 2016). Apple always seem to be the company that left behind while many other famous companies’ research teams were exploring new field in artificial intelligence such as Google, Microsoft Facebook, IBM and so on (Gershgorn, 2017). They did not open up to the integration of AI into the company’s software and they did not have any developer tools to be used for others to bring the technology to its

To begin, the main issue of development of Artificial Intelligence is the economic factors. Firstly, one of the main negative effects of AI on economy is unemployment. According to the suggesting of Carl Benedikt Frey and Michael A. Osborne of Oxford University during next 20 years 47 per cent of all USA jobs under the threat and will be replaced with intelligence machines (Vincent). If jobs will be automated, people will lose their workplaces and it is becomes one of the harmful problems not only for economy, but also for society. Because, if people will not have a workplace, they will not be able to provide their needs. Furthermore, development of AI can be a reason of increasing inequality of wages. For instance, the salaries of computer workers approximately earn 10 to 15 percent more than others. (Frey and Osborne). It is also one of the economic problems because it can lead to discontent of workers who hav...
Artificial intelligence is the intelligence showed by mechanisms or software that pretends to simulate the human intelligence. It’s also the field of computer science that has the goal of creating devices that simulate the human intelligence, such as the rational ability (applying rules based on logic to an available data so we can reach a conclusion), learning (learn with mistakes and solutions in a way to react more efficiently in the future), recognize patterns (such as visual and sensory patterns and behavior patterns) and inference (capacity of applying reasoning in situations of everyday life).
Are You Smarter Than a Chatbot? We’ve all seen the Hollywood horror stories depicting the rise – and subsequent revolt – of intelligent bots. Though entertaining, these types of movies are part of the reason why many people have grown suspicious of AI and its potential (robot overlords, anyone?). The truth is, they depict an astoundingly inaccurate picture of where AI is today – and where it’s going.
Imagine asking your computer to do something in the same way you would ask a friend to do it. Without having to memorize special commands that only it could understand. For computer scientists this has been an ambitious goal; that can further simplify computers. Artificial Intelligence, a system that can mimic human intelligence by performing task that usually only a human can do, usually has to use a form of natural language processing. Natural language processing, a sub-field of computer science and artificial intelligence, concerns the successfully interaction between a computer and a human. Currently one of the best examples of A.I.(Artificial Intelligence) is IBM 's Watson. A machine that gained popularity after appearing on the show
When most people think of artificial intelligence they might think of a scene from I, Robot or from 2001: A Space Odyssey. They might think of robots that highly resemble humans start a revolution against humanity and suddenly, because of man’s creation, man is no longer the pinnacle of earth’s hierarchy of creatures. For this reason, it might scare people when I say that we already utilize artificial intelligence in every day society. While it might not be robots fighting to win their freedom to live, or a defense system that decides humanity is the greatest threat to the world, artificial intelligence already plays a big role in how business is conducted today.

Recently, the media has spent an increasing amount of broadcast time on new technology. The focus of high-tech media has been aimed at the flurry of advances concerning artificial intelligence (AI). What is artificial intelligence and what is the media talking about? Are these technologies beneficial to our society or potential threats? Medical facilities, police departments, and manufacturing plants have all been changed by AI. Will machine language and artificial neural network replace humans in the future?
Shyam Sankar, named by CNN as one of the world’s top ten leading speakers, says the key to AI evolvement is the improvement of human-computer symbiosis. Sankar believes humans should be more heavily relied upon in AI and technological evolvement. Sankar’s theory is just one of the many that will encompass the future innovations of AI. The next phase and future of AI is that scientists now want to utilize both human and machine strengths to create a super intelligent thing. From what history has taught us, the unimaginable is possible with determination. Just over fifty years ago, AI was implemented through robots completing a series of demands. Then it progressed to the point that AI can be integrated into society, seen through interactive interfaces like Google Maps or the Siri App. Today, humans have taught machines to effectively take on human jobs, and tasks that have created a more efficient world. The future of AI is up to the creativity and innovation of current society’s scientists, leaders, thinkers, professors, students and
