Science and Technology, also known as SciTech, is a class in the Liberal Arts and Science Academy that all students are required to take their freshman year. This class forces the students to cooperate with others, manage their time correctly, and think “outside the box”. The freshmen taking the class in the fall semester were the first students of the 2013-2014 school year to experience the thrills and pressures of the rather intimidating class. At around the end of the first six weeks of school, the students were introduced to a “final challenge”, which is what the whole class is centered around. The challenge given to them was to get a toroid, or “donut”, onto one of three pegs that are mounted on a table. Each peg is at a different height, and each has a different “no-setup zone” in which the students cannot start their device in. In order to complete the challenge and/or pass the class, each group needed a strong team, different roles that are given to each member, the ability to resolve conflicts, and the ability to work together to complete tasks effectively. In order to succeed, a group must have team members with strong, personal qualities. One of these qualities would be encouraging group members to stay on task and work more efficiently. During the “ramp lab”, which was our first formal lab, “my group members motivated me to work fast, since we were kind of behind compared to the other groups” (logbook 9/19). This trait pulled us through the lab and was the difference between a passing and failing grade. Another trait that is observed in a strong team member would be the ability to focus and stay on task without being distracted by outside influences. While working on the rubber band lab, “I kind of dr... ... middle of paper ... ... in the “real word”, would look very bleak. I have experienced this firsthand by taking the SciTech course. My group-mates and I argued frequently, and we disagreed on many things, but in the end, I have come to realize that without a group, it would have been absurd to even try to complete all of the assignments and “projects” that were given to us during the school year. Though SciTech has placed extensive amounts of stress on me, it has taught me many things that I would have never learned if I had gone to a regular high school for my freshman. I have enjoyed working with my group members, and I thank all of the SciTech instructors for their time and effort developing and shaping the class into a very demanding, but also helpful, class that has given me at least one thing to take away into the rest of high school, college, and life. The Scientific Revolution, during the 16th and 18th centuries, was a time of conflict. It was not a hand-to-hand martial conflict. It was a conflict of advancement, similar to the Cold War between the United States and the former Soviet Union. However, it was between the thinkers of the Scientific Revolution, such as Nicolaus Copernicus and Galileo Galilei, and the Roman Catholic Church. At the time, the Catholic Church was the most powerful religious body in Europe. It controlled everything from education to faith to finances. Thinkers like Galileo took the risk and went against the church. This is shown through the documents below. Those documents tell the story of Galileo and how he was forced to revoke his support of heliocentrism by the church. The documents below also show the struggle between faith and reason that existed during this era of advancement by hindering the flourishment of the sciences by stating that it did not agree with the Bible and naming these early scientists as heretics.
The scientific revolution was what introduced the way we think based on experimentation, observation and how we apply reasoning to the things we do scientifically. During the scientific revooution this way of thinking brought forward new kinds of thinkers otherwise know as enlgihtentment thinkers. These enlightenment thinkers brought there ideas forward, which helped lead the strive for there independence . this is what led to the beginning of the scientific revolution. The scientific revolution began around the mid 1700s and went all the way through the mid 1800s theses revolutions did not only stay in one place, this was happening globally in Europe, the americans and through out the latin American colonies. You might ask yourself what did they these revolutions have in common ? they all became infulanced by one another and was infinced by the enlightenment thinkers.
Each team members need to be involved positively and willing to communicate effectively to make the collaboration successfully. Throughout the history of America, religion has always had a presence. It always had a say and was all there was in nature. Everything was religion. This was sparsely challenged in the history prior to the mid nineteenth century. Up until this time period, science didn’t exist as a separate category. Science wouldn’t be considered a rival to religion; in fact religion was science until scientific progress begin to contradict religious beliefs. The very first contradiction with a major religious power was when the church funded astronomers (one of which was Galileo) to create a new calendar because the old one became out of sync. (Southgate) During his research he discovered the Sun was the center of the solar system. The church had promptly put down the idea and suppressed Galileo’s voice. "Blasphemy!" cried the church to its faithful followers, who were trusting of the voices of the holy. However, because technology couldn’t make something so radical clearly factual for the masses, religion took the near split of religion and science in their persuasive hands and smashed them crudely back together. However, America was born after a time where knowledge and happiness and ideas hatched, and science would for the first time demonstrate that it is to be the only thing which may defy the church and other religions with irrefutable evidence. The emergence of science came into America in small but powerful steps. Its humble beginning was almost like an evil force that may or may not be watching, in the beginning of America, 18th century. The science and technology can only thrive in a situation where individuals are free to explore and think. When one person slacks off and does not do their part than another person has to do more than their fair share and that isn’t effective teamwork. Also conflicting personalities can be difficult to work with in group settings and the effectiveness of the group overall can suffer. One team member may bring negative energy to the group while another member took it upon himself or herself to play the role of the leader and boss everyone around. The team effectiveness can be influenced by task characteristics, team size and team composition. Task characteristics defined as the task complexity demands teamwork, but teams also work better when the work is well-structured tasks rather than ambiguous because it is easier to coordinate the work among several people. Teamwork effectiveness also can be influenced by task interdependence. Team members must share materials, information, or expertise to perform their jobs. Teams usually better because high interdependence improves communication between each other and also motivates team membership. However, teamwork will become less effective if task goals differ. In Maze Runner movie, most of the people hold to a same goal which escape from the maze makes them become brave and build a team to make a run for it although they know this task may cause them kill by Grivers.
In a team-oriented setting, everyone contributes to how well the group succeeds overall. You work with fellow members of the group to complete the work that needs to be done. Having the right people in the correct roles is an important factor in measuring the success of a team, where you are united with the other members to complete the main goals. Every group is made up of definite strengths and weaknesses. Our team's 3-5 major strengths necessary to work accordingly consist of Informer, Summarizer, Orienter, Piggy-Backer, and Encourager. One of our strengths as a team is that we get input from everyone involved. Every member of our team is a leader in some way. Part of being a good leader is knowing how important it is to receive the best ideas from each member of their team. We attend group meetings where we discuss any challenges, issues, and problems. At these meetings, we often exchange ideas or brainstorm new ones with each other and come up with the best and most creative team solutions as potential answers to those perceived problems.
Good team cohesion will increase chances of successfully completing the goal with high performance. The team will trust each other and support. This would make work faster and more effective.
Over this past couple of months our group has progressed to a much higher level in outputs as a group and getting to this point wasn 't easy. Our group started off with some “primary tension”, which was a stage that many group members were unfamiliar with roles and had some trust issue in terms of everyone doing their work on time and then we started improving in “group synergy” and outputs for our class.
Realizing that a group can become a high performance team is important. Accomplishing this goal is invaluable, advantageous and profitable. Once able to operate from a group to the high performing team is a great step into preparation into the big business world. Leaders and members must also realize not only how to accomplish this but that some problems will and can arise from different demographic characteristics and cultural diversity. That is if one is in such a group, which the probability would be quite high.
Working in teams provides an opportunity for individuals to come together and establish a rapport towards others within a group. Teamwork is classified as people with different strengths and skills who work together to achieve a common goal. When a team works well, specific objectives are fulfilled and satisfied. Teamwork plays a crucial role in implementing and fulfilling a common goal in a team project. Each member plays a role and takes on different responsibilities combined together. In different stages of teamwork, conflicts and arguments may occur for as members have different standpoints which need to be harmonized within the team. The key to having an effective teamwork is to explore each member's unique abilities to motivate them.

Some ways in implementing effective teamwork is by giving the power to make decisions. Giving the team the power to make decisions is a great motivation for effective teamwork and to bring about radical change (p.2). Share clearly defined team objectives: when a team shares and gets feedback from one another their performance and overall effectiveness improves (p.3). Promote efficient team meetings: by having team meetings and using status reports makes a more productive meeting. The status reports helps with the meeting because the report is going to state what already has happened and what needs to be done (p.3). Make individual progress visible to the whole team: In order for the team to make effective progress in the workplace they need to make each individual team member work available to be seen (p.3). Make it fun by melting the ice: Working in a team should be fun and inspiring, not an obligation. A great strategy is having fun and humor that promotes effective teamwork in the workplace. Trying actives like ice breaker to boost the team spirits and bring about positive attitudes is good for the team
