Pose and pursue substantive questions: As a student I take that awareness of other people and I use what I know to learn more about the history of others. In humanities this year, we were told to choose an event and or person and create a performance, a exhibit, or a documentary on how they had taken a stand in their community. Through this project, which we had done both sophomore and junior year, I’ve learned how to generate thoughtful and creative questions to use while interviewing somebody that may be knowledgeable about our topic. Last year, I had interviewed a woman named Gloria Heath, who was a Women AirForce Service Pilot and lived in Greenwich CT. I have grown in my ability to support a cause and reflect on its effectiveness not only through an exhibition but a written response as well. For example, in the Post Graded Pearls of Wisdom Discussion on Schoology from the first quarter, I wrote about all of my thoughts that I didn’t get to contribute to the discussion as well as compliment somebody for what they had said. In this discussion I was able to write my insights and ideas as well as what I had learned from somebody else through their perspectives. These Schoology discussions not only enhances the ability to see what everybody has said, but it also allows an individual to state all of their opinions without feeling rushed or judged. As an individual, I have done very well with these online discussions. As a writer, I am able to express my opinions in a powerful way through my responses, which I may not be able to do as effectively in a speaking discussion. My public speaking skills have improved, although I still tend to lack the mastery of my arguments orally. One way that I hope to improve this weakness is by talking to new people and overcome my shyness despite being an introvert. Ironically, I tend to have more confidence through those presentations which may be because of the amount of time and practice I have had rather than trying to participate in a discussion and think of a good argument in a couple of minutes. One of these presentations came from the National History Day project. From the past NHD project, my group and I completed a performance and at the same time had faced some hardships and struggles. Some of which included lack of communication and constant arguments. This year, I was given the opportunity to try again. I worked with another person to try and improve on my group skills, reflect on my past struggles, and try to make my weaknesses become my strengths. In the past group performance, we placed 6th nationally. This achievement had taken a long, hard time to reach. However, despite the win, the certificates, and the multiple medals, it didn’t feel like we had won as a group. In this year's National History Day (NHD) project, I decided to instead do a group exhibit. In this exhibit, my partner and I didn’t fight like the last group I was in. Instead we worked together, knowing our weaknesses, we tried to put our best work along the way, as well as helping one another with the skills that we
Middle School and AVID has prepared me for high school in many different ways. I will use everything I have learned in middle school and AVID in order to achieve success in high school. I have learned skills such as managing my time, organizing my work, and taking good and quality notes. If I use these skills in high school I know I will succeed. I also know that these skills would make it easier for me to reach my goals in completing dual enrollment and receiving at least a 4.0 GPA.
Over the recent four months in Communication 1402 class, I have addressed three formal speechs and completed a number of chapters in the corresponding textbook “Communication Works”. This course of Communication aims to provide general information what public speaking is and how to address a public speaking. Recalling back the experience during the processes of completing the Speech to Imform, Speech to Persuade, and Group Presentation, I will draw a conclusion about this course and these three presentations in five aspects, comprising my previous perception of public speaking before this course; learning from the Speech to Inform; the goal and evaluation of Speech to Persuade; learning from the Group Presentation; the most important thing learned from this course.
During the program I pushed myself to be more outgoing and open to others. For the first two years of that program I had evolved to where I was talking to hundreds of people from the public for about twelve and a half hours a week during the summer. For the team teaching demonstration, Stuart Parfrey and I did a lesson covering the Second Industrial Revolution, an assembly line Lego activity, and a short quiz. We developed the presentation over a google doc PowerPoint; we put the content together, picked the videos, and what type of activity and assessment. We divided the creation of the lesson’s activity and assessment; I took the activity and Stuart developed the 10 question quiz. We met outside of class a few times to go over notes and discuss how we were going to teach the lesson. We worked well together in the preparation before the lesson, which helped us be efficient during the teaching demonstration.

Public speaking is one of the most under rated skills learned in school, yet is one of the most valuable. The way you communicate shows a lot about you, and can influence other’s opinions of you. In every profession communicatiis important. Good communication skills, no matter what you plan to do in life, will help you out greatly and improve your chances against a harsh job market. I am majoring in Business Administration and Law, and communication is one of the biggest parts of business and law, yet communication is hardly ever taught in business classes for my major. I think that a communications class like public speaking, for example, should be not just for a college class, but taught in high school and middle school as well. I believe several classes would allow anyone to become an expert speaking. The only way to fully learn public speaking is to get up in front of people and talk to them. One can not learn public speaking from a book.
During the Ensemble Unit in our JV Theatre class, everyone learned how to become a better team member. Through exercises such as the qualifier game, ball game, and tic-tac-toe, we learned to work together and play however would best benefit the whole team. These lessons will help us become better actors because we have learned to trust each other, but also to be someone that the whole class can rely on when in need. We will work together and for each other until we succeed.
Sanctuary of School Reflection Essay Many families and students across the United States are starting to recognize the benefits that an afterschool program can ensure. Students need more than a strong curriculum, good teachers, and time in the classroom to succeed (Strauss). Since there is many things happening during a traditional school day; afterschool programs offer different activities to students that are not always available during school. These programs provide engaging experiences that will help them improve in academics, social skills, and keep them away from risky behaviors. The U.S school system should be responsible for providing afterschool programs for their students because they provide opportunities for growth and learning they might not find inside the classroom or at home.
In order to successfully deliver an oral presentation such as a speech, the speaker must follow certain procedures to ensure his message can be conveyed clearly. Vast amounts of research are essential in order to acquire the knowledge necessary to be able to speak about a topic comfortably and answer any questions the audience might have during the course of the presentation. After acquiring such knowledge about the topic of the presentation the speaker will feel more confident, confidence is key in delivering speeches and other oral presentations because it makes the speaker look more credible and trustworthy. Theories I learned in public speaking are in regular conversations, you get all lots of feedback and interest from the other person and in large group, and you get some or none at all. This really heightens all kinds of risks of being plain, confusing, or boring. You can easily avoid in normal conversation between just two people or a very small group who have the same interests. Also, it helps to remember that when people sit considerately without speaking, they are usually watching some sort of screen optimized to entertain them. So to ask a large, captive group to sit and listen to a speech is to make a very big demand, and you must use your time sparingly and wisely. It’s generally not the time for an argument. It is to provide an understanding and desire for the audience.
During this activity I learned that Sasha is very competitive like myself. I also learned that Sasha has a hard time saying sorry and when she does say sorry she laughs. Another thing I learned from this activity is that Friztline does not allow her children to use a calculator.
