Recommended: Is year round schooling better than traditional
When we were younger many of us wished that during the school year there would be cancellations or early dismissals. If the school’s education system in our district uses the year round school schedule then children and teachers as well won't feel overwhelmed due to the lack of vacations the traditional school system has. Now, to answer the question fellow parents of children in Danbury and Danbury citizens there should be year round school for these reasons: avoids teacher and student burnout, students will be more prepared for the future, and test score increase.
As a traditional school year goes by many teachers and students alike are feeling bored and tired of the same old teaching. Stated by special education teacher Carla Kolodey, “

RIght when you start feeling overwhelmed, you get a break.” When teachers are getting tired of teaching then they can have this reassuring feeling that they can rethink whatever it is that is stressing them. For example, if teachers have to have a lesson plan for everyday that alone can overwhelm a person. The teacher has to meet certain requirements and deadlines. The break would be a great relief after a couple of weeks of school. In addition as said by Principal Tom Carter , “ They’d get frustrated and cut class.” By they the principal means the students. Many students do get tired and frustrated with their classes. They either skip or cut the class, but if we had the year round school schedule then many students wouldn't feel the overwhelming need for a break when they would get one after a few weeks of learning. They wouldn't get bored with the same old classrooms. Year round schooling a great practice for when student have to go to work later on in life.
As stated by Margaret Trimer-Hartley the Superintendent of the University Prep Science & Math in Detroit, “... ready for college and their job which is 12 months in a year.” This shows how a worker in the education system finds the importance the benefit of having the year round schooling. It is true when you get a job you can't just give up. If you give up then you eventually might get fired from that job , and if you get fired you don't get a salary, you don't get a salary then you won't be able to pay bills. The year round schooling would help students become accustomed to having to be in one place for several hours. In addition, as said by Julie Donlon a teacher in Roosevelt-Perry Elementary, “ ...spends only two weeks reviewing.” This quote show how teachers can calmly proceed through their teaching without having to take a long time reviewing what they already have learned. The students will be able to retain information for a long time. Which prepares them for the future because once you start working you can't forget what you know about your job to work there. As a result, Year round schooling should be implemented into our education system. The children of Danbury need the new advanced way of
learning. On the contrary many people say that year round schooling does not offer transportation. All though that may be true many parents commute their children to school. There isnt much of a problem there. In addition many people also say that test scores do not improve or change at all. As stated by abc channel 7 news, test scores for kids attending year round school jumped 29%. That 29% may not look like a lot my fellow citizens but that is a huge jump from when test scores rarely increase. Also said by Margaret Trimer-Hartley, competitors in other nations are going to school for more than 200 days and they are beating us when it comes to academics. This shows how if we can add more school days our academic score will possibly also rise. In conclusion, year round schooling is very beneficial because it avoids teacher and students burnout, better for the future, and it improves test scores. Danburians the year round schooling system will help our children from our community improve greatly academically.
First, the pros of year round schooling can include; effects on absence and burnout rates, effects on budget, more frequent breaks, and also a big effect on academic achievement. The way that year round schooling works to reduce burnout and also reduce absences is that by having more frequent breaks; students are less likely to want to skip class. This is definitely noticeable after spring break where most schools don’t have any days off until the end of the year that is usually more than 2 months straight. In other words the “April, May, June stretch”. Year round schooling will also help students with their academics as well because with the way the schedule is set up, students do not ha...
In conclusion, the advantages of year-round schooling are beneficial to all. If all schools did change to year round schooling, I believe we would be able to teach all the students without having to reteach skills from previous years, it could be done during intersessions. Year-round schooling benefits both the teachers and students. Teachers are able to reflect on their teachings and adjust in time before the next session would begin. The students would feel positive about themselves in school. With this change, we may even be able to accomplish No Child Left Behind.
Throughout time education has been considered a process that every so often must be improved. The education quality in the U.S. has declined over the years and people have been looking for a way to make improvements. A more recent proposal has been to go from a traditional nine-month schedule to an all year program. Supporters of year round school claim it gives the student a better education. However, the prospect of year round school is not beneficial to the taxpayers pocket, to the education a student receives, or to the people involved with the district.
One reason why there shouldn't be year round school is because kids have a lack of free time. Therefore, they wouldn't have a summer break or other breaks which means they couldn't hang out with family like what kids would normally do. Another reason why they would have a lack of free time is because they would be worrying
Year round school is just simply too much for students. Many families believe summers are made for creating memories and should not be spent in a school. “I don’t want my daughter enrolled in year round school because it is way too much work and stress” Most kids already have enough work as it is, plus after school responsibilities such as watching a younger sibling, cleaning up the house, or mowing the lawn. Some teenagers also might have a problem with getting a job because of year round school schedule.
Would you consider going to a school where you learn year-round? Maybe this would be your ideal school, but, when would you get to have some time to go to summer camp, or get a summer job, or play a sport with games during the day? Schools with the traditional schedule may actually be a better choice, and not just because kids love summer break. Schools should have a traditional school year schedule instead of a year round schedule because there isn’t a significant difference between the students’ performance, and year round schedules make planning family vacations hard, make the teachers’ job more difficult, and are more expensive. Also, having a summer break allows kids to participate in activities that they would not be able to do on a year round schedule due to the shorter breaks.
"It was really hard to get involved in the work because as soon as you geared up, you had to gear back down again.”("The Pros and Cons of Year-Round Schools") Here a example of how the school year will look. Also with the fact that some teacher have kids that won’t go to the same school has the parent so it one is on year round school and the other isn’t they won’t have the same vacation. So the teacher will have a lot more trouble to make such that the child is taken care
After a long summer, the time has finally come for Sam and his classmates to return to school. Sam dreads going back to school, because he knows that the first weeks of school mean long, boring reviews. Despite the fact that Sam and his friends do not like to study topics they have already learned, they need to review because most students forget what they learned over the three-month break period. Many students can relate to Sam, wasting two weeks or more at the beginning of the school year. Parents, teachers, and students across the United States believe a better option exists that will waste less time. Many suggest the idea of a year-round school schedule. Almost all schools should adopt a year-round schedule because of the many advantages including higher academic
One reason all year-round schools should not be made for example kids need to relax their brains. If the people that run year round school don’t cancel all year-round school kids won't be able to relax and spend time with their families. Another example Summer vacation gives kids time to relax their brains and prevents students and teachers from being exhausted. Students and
Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Our world is fueled by knowledge of every person who lives, and who has lived. Now there is controversy over when our students should be learning, and when they should be on break. While many schools are switching to a year-round school calendar in order to try and increase student achievement, the traditional 10 month calendar should be the preferred format due to structure of school programs, organization, and higher academic results.
Should school be year-round? Well, I say yes because our young people will get done with High School faster. And if school is year round, students will not have a chance to get in a lot of trouble and they will not be able to join a gang or have time to hang on a block because they will not have a long summer break. Somebody needs to bring this problem to the school board to see if they will make the change to save many students’ lives by keeping them off the streets and keeping them in school all year long. If the children were in school longer, they would most likely turn out better, but it’s up to the people of communities to push kids through school.
There shouldn’t be year round school because kids and teachers won’t have a couple month break that is needed just to recharge. It is important to have a break from work. For kids school is work. For teachers they have to work at schools and teach kids. So for both parties school has work with it and it is
The first reason why year round schooling wouldn’t be a good idea is because of focusing for long periods of times for some students. First of all, many kids with disabilities or elementary school would have a hard time focusing that long of a time without their traditional three month summer break. Second, the more breaks students have might make it harder to focus before and after breaks. Before breaks many kids would be excited to
Not only is the year round school schedule cheaper for the family, but it is also cheaper for the school. Over-crowding is another problem that can be solved this way. The reason for that is between the short breaks that students get, the students move to a different classroom. They also stick with the same teacher so all the students are on the same page with the teacher. This all seems pretty easy to adjust to. Is year round school really the answer though? "However, a number of recent studies have found no significant connection between year-round schooling and improved student achievement. For example, a review of 39 studies found that modified school calendars have a very small, insignificant, effect on achievement" (Education Projects in Education Research Center 2004.) A way to go the extra mile is summer programs that revolve around exceeding academically. Educators are working on making these programs available to parents and students who usually can't afford to go to such camps. A wonderful camp that has been made to help with the lower income families assist the children in getting college degrees is Rainier Scholars. "...Rainier Scholars, a year-round enrichment program that accepts 60 to 65 highly motivated low-income minority students annually from almost 600 applications" (PBS 2015). This program also functions solely through
With all the stress and wildness we have in school now, if there was school year-round students and teachers would not know what to do. Students would get tired of school if it was this way. Most of them would drop out and then teachers would be out a job. Teachers and students need a break from school to relax and enjoy not stressing about all the work that has to be done. Having school year-round should not be an option because students/teachers could lose opportunities with work and trainings, and could have an increase in stress.
