If there was a choice to go to school all year long or keep it the same as it is right now, with summer off, what would you pick? If I had to pick, I would go with the unpopular vote of going to school all year round. During the almost two months that we have off right now, many students do nothing but stay home and watch television or play video games. Most every one of us students will do what they have been looking forward to doing all school year, and do it in the first week that we have off of break. After we do the things we want to do that leaves to do nothing all summer and we get very bored. Also with having this two-month gap, the students seem to forget how to act in school, and it takes a few weeks to get back into the mindset of …show more content…
Most of the students, including myself had a list of items that we planned to do over the summer. Some of the people will do all of the activities within the first week or two of summer break. But what happens when we complete those activities that they were so excited to do, and now we have nothing to do? Some people automatically go play video games or watch television. After about half a month, there is really nothing left to do, and some of the students succumb to boredom. Getting rid of the two-month break will eliminate most of the boredom because when the students do have a break they will do the things that they have desired to do. During the duration that they have school and not many breaks, they might find that there is an activity that they want to do. Instead of doing all of the lists of activities that they wanted to do all at once, they would be more evenly spaced out and it would reduce the boredom during the breaks that almost everybody has. This help parents keep their children entertained, this is really helpful to the parents of the younger elementary school children, also it helps the high school students who babysit. On top of all the people that would benefit from no break, the teachers will also benefit from the not having the month long
Attending a year round school will help students retain the information they are taught with greater ease due to the shortness in breaks between times they attend school. An Indianapolis fourth-grade school teacher says, “In this calendar, my goodness, (it takes) two weeks at most.”, referring to the six weeks it normally takes to review the previous year’s lesson to get the students up to speed from the summer break (Johnson). If you are to add twenty days to t...

The tiredness can cause lack of performance in school and the one week of March Break is not going to help, but two weeks of March Break can calm down the students and prepare them for three more months of school.
Throughout time education has been considered a process that every so often must be improved. The education quality in the U.S. has declined over the years and people have been looking for a way to make improvements. A more recent proposal has been to go from a traditional nine-month schedule to an all year program. Supporters of year round school claim it gives the student a better education. However, the prospect of year round school is not beneficial to the taxpayers pocket, to the education a student receives, or to the people involved with the district.
For years, parents and educators have debated the advantages and disadvantages of the traditional school calendar, which has long summer vacations for all students. The longer you are away from school, the more you lose what you learned in the previous year. Studies have shown that children who know English as a second language benefit the most from year-round education because during the long summer break, they may not hear English for several months. Long summer breaks is a problem for traditional schools and the solution is to substitute traditional schools for year-round schools.
Although, year round school wouldn’t be just a bad thing. For example, shorter summer breaks may decrease the amount of learning students lose. It can also mean that students are less likely to have summer learning loss. Also, students test scores lower after summer break. Therefore, some people get free or reduced meals but in the summer they wouldn’t get that. Shorter breaks would cause a hard time to find childcare and to pay childcare.
There is not much to do during spring break in Smallville except for going out and making your own fun. Now what I mean by that is you can have good fun. For example, you can go bowling, have a party or just chill out with your friends. Then there is bad fun. For example, go egging or buy paintball guns and shoot stuff. My friends and I decided to have bad fun for spring break. When we first started egging it was only six of us. Earl, David, Charles, Brandon, Jerrid, and myself. As the first couple of days went by we realized that other people in the city was starting to form teams of their own to get us back for egging them. Let me tell you a little bit about my crew. Earl is my right hand man. He was giving the nickname cruel intentions for a reason. David is my best friend. He is a cool, laid back type of guy. Charles is my cousin. If u see David, Charles, and I at once people would think we was all brothers. Charles can be quiet sometimes but he also has a wild side to him. Brandon is my other cousin. He is the live wire out of the bunch. Brandon is pretty much ready for anything. If its fun he will join. Jerrid says one word about once every ten minutes. But his action speak louder than words. And then there is me. I go by the name Marcus. Some of my friends in Springfield call me Marc-d or mc. I am a quiet, laid back, live wire type of guy.
Would you consider going to a school where you learn year-round? Maybe this would be your ideal school, but, when would you get to have some time to go to summer camp, or get a summer job, or play a sport with games during the day? Schools with the traditional schedule may actually be a better choice, and not just because kids love summer break. Schools should have a traditional school year schedule instead of a year round schedule because there isn’t a significant difference between the students’ performance, and year round schedules make planning family vacations hard, make the teachers’ job more difficult, and are more expensive. Also, having a summer break allows kids to participate in activities that they would not be able to do on a year round schedule due to the shorter breaks.
“There is so much pressure on setting up the classroom and getting ready for the kids to return. So often, staff development is not fully utilized by all teachers or is not the best it could be since the teachers feel such pressure to get into their classrooms.”( Towler)Where is is no time for the teacher to get fully really for the students after the break is over. Without the time to clean up the classroom and meeting for the new school year. With the many breaks it can be a very choppy year that will hurt to the student. Patricia McCracken who went to school in a year round school said,
Do kids and teachers ever get tired of school? or do they love it? if all year-round school arrived, would teachers rather get bored like crazy or have a summer vacation.Which side would kids and teachers pick?
The first reason for the traditional school year, the students should have a break time and they will spend time for the family traditional vacation. For summer breaks no longer term of YRE, the students will have three to four weeks shorter breaks then back to school. They attend school for more than 180 days calendars. For example, the students feel all the stress about heavily homework, test, studying, and quiz, but they need a break. In fact, summer vacation is a family tradition. YRE should give an opportunity for health and social education. In addition, the most United State school kids have lost their summer break in 2.5 million as their school districts options of YRE (“Year-Rou...
Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Our world is fueled by knowledge of every person who lives, and who has lived. Now there is controversy over when our students should be learning, and when they should be on break. While many schools are switching to a year-round school calendar in order to try and increase student achievement, the traditional 10 month calendar should be the preferred format due to structure of school programs, organization, and higher academic results.
What do you think about going to school year round with little breaks here and there, but not your traditional three month summer break? Year round schooling has been a decision argued with the government, teachers, principals and parents. Many kids and adults like to relax on their three month break. Many students are used to having two week winter break, one week spring break, and three months of summer break. Overall, one three month break would benefit than having three-week breaks broken up throughout the school year.
We don't realize how much teachers work during summer. they do a lot.According to neatoday.org they state "As educators begin a new school year they usually have time to attend staff meetings, tidy up classrooms, and prepare for upcoming students."Well since the 45 to 15 day week thing teachers only have 15 days to do those things. Witch probably leaves little to no time for them to spend time with family or to relax. Also found on neatoday.org , "There is much pressureSetting up the classroom and getting ready for the kids return.'' Witch is completely unfair to the teachers just because there school bored decided to run a new schedule.
The traditional School schedule is set up so students go to school for 9 months and then have a 3-month summer Vacation. This system dates back to a time when most people's lively hood was farming; therefore, the educational schedule was built around the times of harvest and planting. But in modern day, with so little farmers this schedule is severely out dated. The long break in the summer encourages students to forget knowledge that they learned that previous year, forcing teachers to review information for 4-6 weeks, time that could be well used teaching students new and enriching things. This schedule also isn't very cost effective, for three months schools stand empty and unused, which is ridicules due to how over crowded the educational system is. Does it really make sense to use an outdated schedule when with every other aspect of our lives we want the newest and the best?
