School Uniforms Solving the Problem
Over the past couple of years, school uniform policies have been enforced as the most efficient method for “solving” problems such as crime and attendance ratings in our public schools. Many schools state that it is quite true that uniforms are lowering such mentioned rates of crime tremendously, but can this really be proven? Currently, there have only been informal studies that try to actually see if uniforms are helping, no long term studies. Technically speaking then, mandating uniforms in our school systems is not the key to fixing problems with the youth.
For example, California’s Long Beach school district says that ever since the year of 1994, when uniforms in their schools were put into place, the crime there has dropped by seventy-six percent and attendance ratings have never been higher. This of course sounds lovely and all but the fact is that it just has not been proven that the uniforms themselves have helped make these problems better. Even if it had been proven that the uniforms are helping over anything else, they still have been creating other problems.
“Clothes are a source of expression for children, and as kids gets older, they become increasingly resentful of uniforms,” said Dr. Alan Hilfer who later added that uniform policies take way our children’s individualities. Other education experts see the uniforms as a violation to the rights of the students to their freedom of expression a...
Mark Twain is considered as one of the most renowned authors of his time. He attained worldwide success, very early in his professional career. Twain was mostly known for writing realistic novels, in which the language and the mindset of the people reflected the traditions and values of their environment. As he spent ample time near the Mississippi River, the symbolism of the river and its significance is reflected in his books. Overall, Mark Twain was a celebrated author, who relied on realistic reflections of his own observations, with an added mixture of humor.
Walton’s letters to his sister, Margaret, frames Victor’s main story. He opens the story discussing his quest to find an undiscovered country to compensate for his past failures and closes by grieving over the loss of a friend. Giving background on his expedition, Walton explains the cold, bare winter environment he is stuck in and the obstacles that he faced. Moments later, the author introduces Victor, who’s “eyes have generally an expression of wilderness, and even madness,” and was frantically looking for his runaway monster (21). He aboard the ship and share his story to Walton before he dies. Not only does Walton’s input serve as a frame structure, but he highlights similar characteristics between Victor and himself. Their lives parallel in which they were both isolated and eventually turn away from their goal because of their high ambition. Strong willed in their decision to continue despite their oppositions, they focus solely on pursuing the unknown and gradually exempt themselves from the world. In meeting Victor, the epistolary changes to Victor’s narration that Walton ...

Endometriosis appears to be caused by multiple factors such as the implantation of endometrial tissue outside of the endometrium, immune dysfunction, abnormal hormonal signaling, and genetics.
Mark Twain was a writer whose works revolved around his childhood experiences growing up on the Mississippi River. The main source of his writing was the time he spent in Hannibal, Missouri as a young boy. He also used his childhood friends in many of his work, such as modeling the character Sid in Huck Finn after his brother Henry. Twain also used the happy times in his life to express his feeling in his writings. Twain used the trials of his life to make his works humorous and all-time American classics.
The characters of this story would have to be the narrator, the clergyman, and of course Scortsby. The narrator helps in starting the story off, and the clergyman helps by explaining his point of view. Scortsby on the other hand, without talking, happened to be a very important part of this story. He is the main subject of the story from beginning to end.

“The Manual on School Uniforms”, printed and issued by the United States Department of Education, noted that Long Beach, California, reported a decrease in crime, fights, sex offenses, weapons offenses, and vandalism after they adopted their uniform policy (4). Contrary to government findings, The National Educational Longitudinal Study of 1988 discovered that school uniforms have had no real effects on behavior, drug abuse or attendance; furthermore they also came to find that uniforms actually have negative effects on the academic achievement of the students (Brunsma and Rockquemore 54). If school A is emphasizing that school uniforms are conducive to the learning environment, yet school B down the road has higher testing scores but no uniform policy, then their stand is no longer valid. This proves that uniforms have no effect on the learning process.
There is something comforting about school children and teenagers dressed in pleats and plaid. Maybe it is a reminder of past times, or conjures up thoughts of order and safety. Whatever the reason, school uniforms are getting a lot of ?wear? these days, yet remain an unproven deterrent to school violence. No long-term, formal studies have been done with regards to the effectiveness of school uniforms, but many schools have kept their own informal statistics, such as the Long Beach School District. These statistics offered by Long Beach are often most cited as a proven deterrent to school violence, after adopting a mandatory uniform policy in 1994. According to Richard Van Der Laan, school crime has dropped over seventy-five percent, while attendance has reached an all-time high. One question we must ask ourselves is this, ?Is it the uniforms, or the induction of them that is solving the problem?? Maybe it is the school and parents showing some ?back-bone? which is affecting the students, not the clothing.

Doubling over with pain during your period? Sometimes, it's way more than just a serious case of cramps. For approximately 176 million women globally, it's endometriosis, a painful disease in which tissue that normally lines the inside of the uterus grows outside of the uterus. And unfortunately, endometriosis is one of the leading causes of infertility and one of the more difficult ones to treat, says Shahin Ghadir, M.D., reproductive endocrinologist at Southern California Reproductive Center.
In society today, school-age children are under tremendous pressure to fit in with their peers and still perform well academically. I believe that school uniforms at pre-K through high school levels are an excellent way to help children succeed not only in school, but to prepare them for college and the “real world.” Three reasons why I believe school uniforms should be used in all schools is first, they are economic, next, they reduce distractions and finally, they help with social equality. To begin, school uniforms are economic. When schools have a uniform policy, it makes it easier on the children and parents.
There are many distractions that can affect what children learn and for many, they believe that uniforms can take away many of these distractions. For an example, an inappropriate shirt, such as the one that promotes drugs and alcohol could disrupt an entire class due to a teacher having to stop their lecture to deal with the problem. In fact, in a study conducted on the effects of implementing school uniforms, six elementary teachers from Cincinnati Ohio stated that after their school implemented a uniform policy there were “fewer classroom disruptions” as well as “fewer incidences of quarreling” (Huss,
There are certain risk factors that goes along with a diagnosis of uterine cancer. An abnormal increase in the number of cells in the lining of the uterus. Also women who are obese have a greater chance of developing uterine cancer than those who are not. Other risk factors include women who have never produced children, started menstruating before the age of twelve, experienced menopause after age 55, have taken estrogen without progesterone for menopausal hormone therapy, those who took tamoxifen, the drug to prevent or treat breast cancer, and those who have had radiation therapy to the pelvis. Family history also plays a role in the chances of developing uterine cancer. Women with family members such as a mother or sister are at increased risk. Many women who are affected by this type of cancer may have none of the above risk factors as well as women who have these risk factors don’t develop the disease.
