Is the school uniform an equalizer, or, is it a hinderance to the student's individuality and creativity? The school uniform is said to make everyone the same, and create a more positive environment with less bullying, but how does it? By forcing everyone to be the same, you “can’t tell” who is rich and who is poor,who is weird and who's not. However, does the school uniform do anything it says it will do? The school uniform may be an equalizer in some respects, but in others, it is a hinderance, in the way it decreases creativity, condemns individuality, and often requires certain clothing, which can be hard to find and expensive.
A person's individuality is their character and their spirit. In order to show their spirit and their character, they need the freedom to express themselves. Society tells us it is a good thing. People start companies with creativity, so obviously,creativity should be encouraged. Creativity is made by making choices. One choice made everyday is our outfit.The ability to mix and match develops creativity. Mixing and matching also develops our color choice and style. With good color matching skills and an individual style, you can dress for the occasion, which is what you’re supposed to do.When you’re forced to wear something, and wear it a certain way, you can’t change it. When you can’t change anything, your sense of creativity does not develop, and can diminish, which is not good. One example is our choice of color. If given the freedom, most students would wear a less heat absorbing color. If we had color choices, we could choose one that makes us less hot, and at the same time, get to express our creativity We can keep our uniform, but IQA decision makers need to realize that a few choices for students will go a long way and will help students respect their
