It also gives students less time to spend with their families, which is something that is very important. I have stayed for after school enrichment several times and that requires me to stay another hour or hour and a half after school. On the days that I stayed for that, I felt like I hardly had any time to do things before it was time to go to bed. I didn't have time to go to dance, be with my family, or even get my homework done for the next day. I feel that the advantages of school starting and ending later make all the difference in schools. If students get the amount of sleep their bodies need, they will be a lot more alert and attentive. So, that helps them remember the information that they're learning, which could result in better grades. Sleep is very important to your health and getting the proper amount everyday could also be beneficial in preventing illnesses. I recently came into school late because I overslept. I made it to school just in time for second block. Even though I rushed to get school, I felt so alert and energized. I wish every school day started later so that I wouldn't feel so tired and drowsy all the time. I feel that it would be a great idea for school to start later
Many people argue that starting schools later will let students get more sleep and align with the students sleep cycles. But they do not factor in that students will just stay up later at night because they know that they do not have to get up as early in the morning. This will just leave students with less sleep than before. Also students will be up later finishing homework and socializing on their phones with friends. Although schools will now have been adjusted to fit with students sleep cycles, that does not mean that the students will actually
Allowing students to sleep more by starting school later would benefit them in a multitude of ways and keep them from feeling enervated. According to the online article, A Wake-Up Call on High-School Starting Times, “...troubled kids often get caught up in a distress cycle in which too little sleep causes them to experience anxiety and inner turmoil, which, in turn, cause them to lose more sleep. In the worst
Every fall teens wake up all groggy and tired because of school starting early. To stop that schools could start later. Why you say because young, growing teens need sleep. And it is proven what growing teens need at least 8 hours a day, they're not getting it. This is why schools should start later.
One drawback to later start times is the fact that school would end later. Since schools that start later still have the same number of hours in a day, they would in turn end later in the afternoon. This can cause problems for after school activities, and also homework after school. Some students families depend on the money earned from working after school jobs. If the school they were attending got out later, they would have less time after school to work these jobs, so they would be unable to make the money they need to support their families (“Eight Major Obstacles to Delaying School Start Times”). In addition, any after school clubs or activities would end later after school, causing those involved to stay up later at
Kids and teen everywhere are rushed, stressed, and not doing as well in school because they aren't getting the right amount of sleep. About 40% of american high schools start classes before 8:00 am and more than 20% of middle schools start at 7:45 am or earlier. School start times should be later because teens need sleep and it improves their overall academic grades.
When you were 14-16 were you tired or sleeping in class? Odds are you were, because 60% of 14-16 year olds get less than 7 hours of sleep each night. Schools should start later than when it is now because of these 3 reasons. The 1st reason is that kids wouldn’t be so tired in their morning classes. They wouldn’t fall asleep in their morning classes. Kids would get enough sleep where they won't be so late to class. The last reason is that kids would feel better because they will get more hours of sleep than normal.
Researchers have proven that teenager’s brains don’t start working until ten in the morning, also that an average teenager is supposed to get eight to nine hours of sleep each night. These are a few reasons that school starting times are negatively affecting students learning abilities at school. I believe that schools should have later starting times. An average teenager is supposed to get eight to nine hours of sleep each night, however in reality most teens only get about seven hours. A lack of sleep is causing students to do worse on homework and tests. Our school starts at seven twenty-five, if it started two hours later, then students would be getting the exact amount of sleep that they need each night. A study shows that the brain doesn’t
Starting school later also has a lot of health and academical benefits. Even if the school day starts 30 minutes later, It has proven to show great benefits for teenagers. In the pass Up For Debate: Should School Start Later It says “As a result, students were showing up to school alert and ready to learn and are focused and engaged in lessons.” Some people believe that starting earlier is better because a later start results in a later end to the day. Ring! Ring! Goes my alarm clock I wake up at 5:00 in the morning for the first day of school. And I think about how school should start much later so teens can get more sleep. In the article should school start later by Lisa M. Harrington and the video "Should Students Start School Later in the Morning? as well as a info graphic by Sarah McKinney titled wake up call all support that schools should let their students get more sleep. Everybody likes to sleep late during the summer, but when school starts back it’s hard to get sleeping schedules back to normal. Many schools are researching how later start times affect students. In my opinion later start times would have a positive effect on students because they would be more awake while driving, have more time to sleep, and make better grades.
Don't you hate waking up early for school in the morning? Most high school students wake up before the sun rises just to become ready for school. Teenage brains do not begin to function that early considering many are tired from staying up late the previous night. The National Sleep Foundation reported that most teens do not retain enough shuteye, one study found that only 15% reported sleeping eight 1/2 hours on school nights. That fact was extremely true for me when I attended high school. I barely was able to wake up, get dressed, and be in school on time since I was so tired. In my opinion school days should start later, precisely in between 9- 10 o'clock. If the school day started later attendance would improve, students will be more prepared, and student's attitudes and grades may improve.
In Conclusion, I think that school’s should change the start times, because teens aren't focused with their work, they’re running on 2-3 hours of sleep due to all of the homework that the teachers give out. If our society expects this generation to be smarter and more active, then they should rethink the start times, have us start at later times to get the sleep we truly need. Doctors have even said that High Schools need to start at later times because being tired all the time is not good for our

Lots of schools have been starting their school day later, because they think that students are not getting the proper amount of sleep each night. Schools should not start later because not every kid has trouble getting up on the morning, the transportation costs are extremely expensive, and it takes away from afterschool sports and activities.
