Me and my friend Jeff were running for school president and vice president. We thought we were easily going to win because nobody usually ever goes out for school president, but this year was different. We were lucky to even sign up to run because they only took the first 4 students that signed up and 20 tried to sign up. More people than ever before were going to run for it. To make things that much more difficult we had to run against the most popular girl in school, Megan Hart. Everyone in the school loved her except me and Jeff. That meant this year we had to go above and beyond.
So they put you into pairs of two, president, and vice president. Me and Jeff got paired up and Megan and a kid named Tommy Durant. Kevin Durant was his uncle but he didn't have one athletic bone in his body. He was the biggest nerd in school. We had ten days until the election to get kids to want to vote for us. On the first two days, me and Jeff hung up posters saying vote for Landon and Jeff. To see if they were working we hired a kid to go around and ask other kids and teachers who they were voting for. The posters weren't going so because 65% of the students were going to vote for Megan and Tommy.

We did that for three days and on those three days Me and Jeff cam up with a name for us, "The Terrific Two." Then on the sixth day we hired the same guy and only 40% of the people were going to vote for us. For the next two days I sat in my bedroom trying to think of ways to get people to vote for us. I couldn't think of anything so I called Jeff and he couldn't think of anything. On the last day before voting, I thought my hopes and dreams were lost for president until Megan came by and said "I can't wait to win then go swim in a hot tub and laugh in your face." That's when it hit
Can you imagine president controlling your life? The constitution use three different forms to make a group or a person from getting too much power on his hands. The are three types of power that each contusion have in order to keep power equal. One of them is Legislative Branch Congress “Can approve Presidential nominations”(Document C). It’s a example how governments try to keep power equal.
Raquel and Melanie were considered very bright, motivated and driven students. Both girls were from the same neighborhood, and
"What girl at Lansing High would not want to be in her place right now? Millicent thought, amused. What girl would not want to be one of the elect, no matter if it did mean five days of initiation before and after school, ending in the climax of Rat Court on Friday night when they made the new girls members." (Plath 199)
As usual Stargirl showed up in a strange way and made the dance extremely fun, but Hillary did not like this and was upset at Stargirl. After the dance no one ever saw Stargirl ever again but, she changed all the lives of Mica High that year.
Earlier this year, I was selected as my local chapter’s delegate to the American Legion Jersey Boys State. This was a new experience for me as this was the first time I was away from home with no one I knew. The main focus of that weeklong seminar was elections and although I knew I was competing against some of the best students in the state, I wanted to see what I could do. So I ran to be my floor’s ward leader, and won. Then I ran for my city council member, and won. Then I ran to by my county Vice-chair, and won. Then I ran to be my county senator, and lost. This was by far the most disappointing moment of the week. I had worked hard to climb up the mock political ladder and even had started imagining making it to the top. However, the
The race was the closest of the century, with Kennedy receiving only 113,000 votes more than Nixon out of the 68 million ballots cast while his 303-219 electoral-vote margin eclipsed the fact that several states besides Texas and Illinois could have gone either way. (Kennedy, Cohen American Pageant 868). The vote counting in Illinois (where Kennedy won by 9,000 votes) and Texas (where Kennedy won by 46,000 votes) became incredibly controversial, because if Nixon had won those two states, he would have defeated Kennedy by two votes in the Electoral College (blog.constitutioncenter.org) In Illinois, people speculated that Richard Daley, the mayor of Chicago and companion of John’s father Joe Kennedy, used his political machine to stuff the ballot box in Cook County (CITATION). Similarly in Texas, there were claims about the influence of Kennedy’s running mate, Lyndon B. Johnson, over that state’s election (CITATION) Frank Sinatra’s daughter Tina, 52, in a recent interview claimed that her father told her that Kennedy’s father, Joseph P. Kennedy wanted the Mafia's help in delivering the union vote in the 1960 West Virginia primary against Sen. Hubert Humphrey (CITATION) In an interview with Frank Sinatra’s
I am a runner. I was selected to be a cross country captain for my senior year and I had set myself a realistic goal of being one of the top five finishers at the state meet in the fall. I never had the thought that I could not do it; I knew I was going to be up there with the best. When the state meet came and I traveled with the team as captain, that race became one of the most memorable of my cross country career but not for the reasons I expected.
She always makes sure the girls have what they need to make them feel more comfortable in the hospital. The group of girls Susana becomes closest to consists of Lisa, "the rebellious one," Daisy, "the daddy's little girl," and Torch, "the follower." Each girl contributes something special and unique to their friendship. While Lisa is always acting out, then running away and coming back she is still looked at as the "ring leader" of the group. All of the girls look up to Lisa and ask her for guidance because she has attended Claymore the longest.
This is when I decided to try and become a member of the student council. I was elected and soon loved it. My school is very important to me and I wanted to do my very best to make it the best possible high school experience for not only me, but every student that attends White Bear Lake. I found that was helpful to have many different views on the council, and I think I brought a new view that was not accounted for before. Being a hockey captain my senior year, I was elected to be in Leadership Academy. This group meets and talks about how to most effectively lead our sports teams as well as the school. This is very important to me because as a leader I want to set the best example possible for my peers and this group allows me to improve my leadership skills to make them even better. I value this program very much because I think it will help me to succeed in the future, because these skills are lifelong skills to have. I have also became a math tutor for my classmates. Being a tutor is very important to me because it allows me to share my knowledge and help
Why do you want to be a member of senior cabinet? Please include the strengths and talents that you would bring as a member of cabinet. Also discuss what you feel is the most important responsibility of the senior cabinet.
An increase in presidential power is only justified due to the natural expansion of the governmental branches and agencies, and also in the amount of people it governs. But the rapid increase of presidential power over the past century has not been justified, as actions taken by the President in undeclared wars and times of economic crises is in no way justifiable by the Constitution and are therefore undemocratic. This is clearly seen in historical Presidential actions taken, and in how much power the Presidential position has gained over the past course of history. The Framers of the Constitution held a limited government position in mind, with the President being a chief citizen rather than a dictator, but his or her this power increases,
When looking at the powers of different presidents, you have to look at their responsibilities and what power they actually have when it comes to decision making. Both the Iranian and American presidents have two different presidential powers, formal and informal. Formal powers are ones that are written into the constitution and have to be upheld by anyone who comes into power, for example both presidents can sign treaties with foreign countries. Informal power are not explicitly written into the constitution (1), but are done by the president, for example being persuasive, this is a power they need to use because that is how they will gain the presidential role, by persuading the public and to make international treaties they need to use the
There were several other students who wanted to run for president, but none of had quite the propositions that I wanted to feed into the community. I actually wanted to create awareness of our environment and go into the elementary schools and encourage students to pursue careers in STEM. I am currently president of the society, and I am so grateful to have the ability to make difference in the society. The society will soon be hosting an Oxfam hunger dinner to inform the community of what it's like to eat in a developing country, and how lucky we are to be living in America and have the abundance of food that we have, unlike other countries. This hunger dinner will be my legacy to the society because no president before has conducted such an event that will educate our community and bring our school together.
On my left was the girl who spoke for the three of us. She was the big cheese. Anna was without a doubt, the most daring of the three of us. She was the one who started the famous food fight of '95 in the Travis cafeteria. She told the entire school that her sister ran away to join the circus in '96,and in '97 she broke a boy's arm, wrestling. It was obvious that she was going to ride the infamous "death slide." In fact as soon as we jumped out of the car she screamed, "I'm going to ride the biggest ride at Schlitterbahn, 'The Death Slide.'"
I had big plans for this. I want to be the Junior Class president. Being Junior Class president is a big responsibility due to proms, concessions and other fundraisers, but I wanted the position anyway. I knew I could handle it. My mom gave me a great idea for a theme that I would carry throughout my posters, my speech, and my clothing attire on Election Day.
