I am Linh Nguyen, and I am full-time student in Lone star College. I am glad to know that I have received Scholarship of Rotary Club. I wrote this letter of thanks to Cypress Fairbanks Rotary Club Scholarship. I am from Vietnam. I have been in the U.S. 3 years. I live here with my mother and younger brother. We are attending in the same school now. I was a hard time for me to study new language when I just got here, but I was trying my best to achieve knowledge in college. I want to be a successful business woman in the U.S. I would like to study in Lone Star because it is a good school and has great professors. I have not involved in too many activities in school yet, but I have been to some business events in school, and I really like them.
I have been a four year letter-winner in volleyball and basketball. Athletics have been a crucial part of developing my character and work ethic. In sports, you must work together with your team to reach your goals. Trust and communication skills are vital and are tested every day. The failure and setbacks I have faced through sports have helped me to believe in myself and have the self-confidence that it takes to be successful in athletics and in life. As a senior captain of the volleyball and basketball teams, my leadership has improved tremendously as high school has progressed. Being a leader holds me accountable and I aim to be a role model for younger teammates on the court, in the classroom, and in the community.
Thank you for considering me for induction into the James Monahan Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society. I have been looking to join this society ever since I heard about it and have been trying my best so I can. I believe that I demonstrate the qualities of service, leadership, and character and would be a great addition to the National Junior Honor Society.
I am exceptionally grateful for this opportunity to possibly be a member of this very prestigious organization. Every day I work tremendously hard to be noticed by both other scholars and my teachers. Now that an opportunity has come, I am truly excited to demonstrate and live by the values of The National Junior Honors Society. I hope to further expose and show both my dedication and want to join arms with my community and my peers and I wish to continue to work with passion and fire to shape the world into a brighter place.
I wish to take the time to give thanks for this impeccable opportunity in applying for the highly sought after National Honor Society. I have been looking forward to embarking on this journey since I heard about this organization freshman year. I am truly elated to be one of the many students that qualifies, as I know the standards of excellence and character that must be exemplified and met.
I was very excited when I heard that I had been invited into National Junior Honors Society. The first time I heard of NJHS, it instantly became a goal of mine. When my older sister left for college I was very sad, so I think that this is a way for me to keep a part of her. I have always been that little girl no one understood, because I’m always very excited to learn and get back to school after summer break. I’m very happy to see that I’ve been invited, but this is why I should be accepted.
My family and I moved from Pakistan eleven years ago in search of a better life. Their main purpose in moving here in the U. S. was to send me to an American college to gain a first-class education. My father ran a convenient store and a medical store for over 20 years. I remember that he used to walk to his shop to work everyday. His dream is to see me becoming a successful businessman. Furthermore, he expects me to have my own office, wearing a nice handmade Italian suit, and performing computer related jobs. Now that I am ready to graduate, my father’s dream will come true. All I did was work hard and I am optimistic that I will find success.
Nonetheless, it was neither the geographic disparities nor the tremendous cultural differences that obstruct the dream I had in mind. It all began when my parents’ disagreements accumulated. The language barrier barricaded my father’s will to stay. After countless quarrels, he terminated the marriage and fled back to Vietnam. As the adults drifted apart, the burden on my mother’s shoulders doubled. Left by our own, we struggled to make ends meet. Going to a four-year university, therefore, was no longer our option, especially when my sister and I were both entering college at the same time. So, despite my mom’s weak stamina, she toiled away working a straight 50 hours a week to put food on the table. Her limited English skills couldn’t get her a better job rather than being a minimum wage factory worker. My sister and I were exerting ourselves to our best capability at school in hopes to at least make her feel better, and to be told that we wouldn’t make it to graduate the year of. For a second, my family felt apart and all of my confidence collapsed; for a second, I thought this was the last call for me, that I would never be able to succeed or get anything done with my life: I felt helpless. As times like this, I was fortunate enough to have my siblings to share this feeling. It’s been a year and a half and my life has gotten a lot better. After changing accommodation, and switching to another high school, my sister and I were finally be able to graduate on time. We have been working on campus since Summer 2016 to shoulder the work for my mother. We were also saving money for transferring process later on. I will continue my passion of pursuing a Physics major and hopefully get transferred to UC Davis in a two year
I am honored to be one of the remarkable students qualified to join Eureka High School’s National Honor Society. In school I have always tried and determined to do my best. I work hard for the grades I have achieved. I always show excellent character as I believe this is a very important skill to have and display. I seek and pursue many community service opportunities since giving back to others is key in strengthening our community. I demonstrate the qualities that are necessary to join this prestigious society, including leadership, character, scholarship, and service.
I need this scholarship to achieve my goals and most importantly to make my family proud. My family did not get this chance that you are giving me so I am not just doing this for me, I am also doing this for them. I already have all the support from all of my family and all of my friends, but that alone is not enough to conquer my dreams, and to prove all the people that have doubted me that they were wrong. I hope that this organization can help me reach my goals, and to most importantly make them become a reality. I want to look back onto my life and know that this scholarship, and college helped me to be the man I will be. I hope you accept me into your college and most importantly giving me this
I am deeply grateful to be given the opportunity to apply to such an important organization as National Honor Society. To me, it reflects that I have achieved my goal of working as hard as I can to set an example in both my school and community, and I could not be more honored. This organization does great things for any community it touches, and I believe that I can play a part in furthering the impression that is made.
At the end of my ninth grade in Nepal, I was given an educational opportunity that impacted my life. I was able to go to the US, to meet my parents and start a better future there. At that time, I had just finished my ninth grade and I had been nervous about the journey and the beginning of my new life there. I was able to join high school only after a couple of weeks arriving into the US. The surroundings and the academic environment around me were totally different from Nepal. I chose to take this opportunity because it was the best possible way I could start my future and that would help me achieve my academic goals.
This scholarship is especially important to me because it will aid me in furthering my education in college in order to major in accounting. Since early on in high school I always had an interest in math, numbers, and creating spreadsheets. The foundation for this began as I helped my parents put together expense sheets and financial documents. I also helped my dad put together inventory reports, price lists, and PowerPoint presentations for his job. My interest in the accounting and finance field especially grew when I took the Business Computer Applications classes. Throughout these classes I learned many skills that can apply to accounting and working for a business in general. At the end of these classes I ended up certifying in four of

I joined any group I could to further my education about technology and how they worked. Through hard work and perseverance I overcame many hardships in my life and became the dedicated, hardworking, and motivated student I am today. I believe that receiving this scholarship will not only relfe my family and I from the financial stress of me attending college, but will also propel me one step closer to attaining my dream of becoming an inventor and impacting the life of many people around me like my role models did. I thank you for your time and consideration for this prestigious
I would like to personally thank you and your foundation for the opportunity to be considered for the Jacinta McKoy Community Based Learning and Action Scholarship. Blessed by every community I find myself in, I and my family have been cared for and benefited from all types of community service. From government and church programs, to kind neighbors and strangers, I’ve seen and felt the positive effects of community service. Thus, I am committed to bettering society through community-based service. If I expect my community to continue working to support families and pursue positive change, I need to do my part to grow and maintain compassion and tolerance.
